Yesterday I was listening to a podcast and the host was talking about different games in life.  Games as in school, work or just other areas in life.  Because I just had a birthday, I’ve been in my hometown 2 years now, and I think about my life way too much, that idea kind of got stuck in my head.
I never had trouble with the acedemic part of high school or college.  After the first couple years of each I got to places where I had an amazing balance in my life: activities, friends, and school.  Looking back, those times weren’t completely smooth but I had figured out the game and was having fun with it.
Then the school game ends.  You’re starting something new and it’s completely different.  Now, after working at my company over a year and a half I feel like there’s a balance.  My boss is awesome, I’ve moved up in my job, I’ve learned more, done more, and made friends.  I’ve done a lot more with this job than I ever thought would be possible.  It’s still frustrating and backwards sometime but the game is going pretty well and definitely in my favor.
What I’m reflecting on is how terrible I am at the other parts of life right now.  I still haven’t figured out the game.  There is patience and then there is a point where you kick yourself in the ass.  I’m tired of where I am, the problems that I’m trying to solve in work and otherwise.  It’s past time for a change.  That fact has been one of the hardest things to deal with recently.  There are seemingly a bunch of paths forward and at the same time none at all.  This game seems colossal moving forward.
Maybe it is only the next six months, the next year.  It could be anything until things shift again.  I’m stupid if I would think I could plan my whole life.  I couldn’t even if I wanted to.  I’m just trying to get motivated and get better at this game.
