Ahh, I’m so happy that stood out to you!! That was actually really important to me. Once Leon decided it was getting too much, his first instinct was to protect his relationship. He realised they were only fighting each other at that point, and that he was accidentally giving Peter exactly what he wanted. I kind of wanted that to be the turning point.

Aw, thank you so much! That’s exactly what I was going for haha. You could definitely call Matthew naive up until his talk with Taryn, but maybe he’s just really in love and trusts Leon completely, which thankfully turned out to be the right thing to do. Leon’s definitely lucky that Matthew is so patient with him, especially considering how long this has been going on.
Ngl, I really felt for Leon and all of his guilt while writing, too.

my original plan was for complete mess to be a oneshot, but you’re actually the second person asking about a sequel and honestly, when you put it like that, i totally agree! there’s definitely a lot more to explore with them, especially if 👀 they stay with leon’s family. I’ll definitely do some thinking and see what I can cook up!

Honestly, calling Barky was never really an option for him in that moment. Matthew has a lot of shame around that part of his past and his feelings. Leon is the only person who knows about it to that extent and Matthew wants to keep it that way. That’s also why the call happens at all. Matthew loves Barky and he’d call him over Leon for anything else. But with this, he’s just terrified of being perceived differently.
Leon does encourage him to talk to Barky in the end, but Matthew isn’t ready for that yet. For now, it’s still something he wants to leave in the past.
I know that’s not the happiest answer, but it felt the most true for Matthew 😅
