“Velorian fruit is quite good, yes,” Tempera said. He turned, heading the way towards an open-air market. “The soil is especially rich in most of the region, so combined with some special growing tactics we have quite a range.”
The walk saw basically every other person greeting Tempera, and several asking about the two strangers with him. By the time they got to the market, they’d been introduced to at least twenty people.
“This is the largest market in the city. Several of the stands sell directly from the surrounding farms.”
"Gee, you sure are popular around here. Or the people just really like the guard." Paimon lost count of just how many waved or said their hellos.
"Someone nice enough to give strangers a tour probably does a lot of things for others." He was also smiling so brightly the whole time, that probably also factored into it. "Wow... looks like we're going to be sinking a lot of mora here." Especially when she saw the way Paimon's eyes grew wide at the stalls. "Do you have a favorite fruit you'd recommend trying first?"
“Well, I also grew up here, so yes, I’d say I’m very familiar with it.” As they walked away from the outskirts of the city, it became increasingly busy, with trains zipping by in the streets and people walking. “This is the capital of Veloria, Forte City. Were you here for anything in particular?”
"Some people live in a place, but don't know it very well." As she followed him, Lumine had to keep tugging on Paimon's scarf as she got distracted by the sights. Floating into the wrong directions.
"I need to stock up on ingredients for cooking. Traveling and fighting build a big appetite. Plus Paimon has a never ending stomach."
"As if you don't alsoooo." Paimon stuck her tongue out. "Paimon heard this place has the biggest and juiciest fruits ever."
“Well then, if you’d like a quick tour, you’re free to tag along. I’m doing my patrol right now before going home for the day.” A pause. “Ah, my name is Tempera. You’re Paimon, then. And as for your companion?”
"She goes by many names, the Traveler, the knight of-" "Just Lumine is fine." She cut her off, starting to walk. "Nice to meet you Tempera, we'd appreciate any tour. You must be very familiar with areas here if you patrol them often."
"Why don't I bring you into the city so we won't have to worry about more of those showing up?" Tempera asked. As he led the way, he said, "I am the leader of the Forte City guard, so I suppose you could call me a knight, among other things."
"Okay, sounds good." She rolled her shoulder and sighed. "I've been fighting all day, I need to stock back up on my supplies. My guide hasn't been very good at leading me in the right direction."
"Heeeeeey." She stomped her foot in the air. "Paimon isn't familiar with this area okay!"

"Yes, there are more camps of them than usual out in the wilderness. I believe there are efforts planned to take care of them soon." That fell under the purview of the country's military rather than the city guard.
He was about to invite them to follow him into the city when the next question came. "No, I wouldn't say so. The average citizen does have some skills if they travel, of course, and we have our own arm of the Adventurer's Guild, but I've been training since I was a young child."
"Oh good, we heard this place was supposed to be super peaceful and Paimon was getting a little nervous of the reason why...." She let out a nervous laugh.
"Don't mind her, she worries easy." Said with a shrug as she looked him up and down. "If you've been training that long are you some sort of knight?"
As soon as the two strangers were out of the way, Tempera pulled his sword from its sheath and cut through the monsters. They disappeared easily as they always did.
At the question from the flying one, he turned. "Hmm? Magic," he said. "I'm guessing you two are guests here in Veloria?"
Once he slashed with his sword, both Lumine and Paimon stood to the side clapping. "Nice show." She paused to consider his question. "Guests sounds so formal. I suppose we are visiting here now."
"We just kinda got a bigger welcome than we expected." Paimon tapped her little fingers together. "Are all people in this place as strong as you?"
@genshingirlies for Lumine to end up in Genshin!Veloria
There were plenty of monsters in Veloria, but this close to the city, it was mostly just Slimes. They could cause problems, but they were easy enough for even the average citizen to get rid of.
That didn't mean Tempera didn't occasionally go out to the outskirts of Forte City and do some fighting, anyway. It was part of his patrol route, so why not?
It was as he was smashing a Geo slime that he realized someone was running towards him, someone else flying alongside her. Tempera only had about three seconds to realize that the stranger was being chased by a band of Hillichurls.
A sigh left his lips, and Tempera held a hand up. "Stop." Suddenly, they were all frozen in place. "Are you alright?"
For some reason hearing the word, Lumine stopped as well. Paimon, who had been trailing behind her did not and bumped right into the man. Bouncing back feeling like her head was spinning. "Oogghh, who put that there?"
Lumine had quietly turning to look at the frozen Hillichurls. Giving one a poke. "You got them all in one go." Having gained some of her senses back, Paimon quickly looked between the man and the monsters. "Woah, and without even breaking a sweat too! How'd you do that?"
That got a chuckle from him. "Well, I do tend to have good luck, so hopefully I haven't jinxed us." As they left the city, a couple Gardes walking by as they patrolled nodded to him, and he waved in greeting.
"Though as you said, there's nothing wrong with a little challenge. It would be a bit anti-climactic to have to go back home after taking out a single Hilichurl camp."
"Would be a shame for this trip to be too short after all." One camp was like child's play, but she was not about to go bragging. "Do you often do these sorts of quests or does your job tend to keep you busy enough?"
@genshingirlies
It had been a while since he'd gone out on a quest for the Adventurer's Guild; he stayed registered with them, but he usually kept himself busy with his work as a Garde. But his mother had thought it was a great idea to take Ayaka out while she and Ayaka's brother were in talks.
"It should be simple enough," Tempera said after accepting the request. "We just need to clear some Hilichurls who've set up camp along one of the roads."
Ayaka was maintaining her composure as well as she always did, but deep down she was excited. No matter how simple, it was nice to do something unrelated to the every day list of duties. Just picking up a quest like any other adventurer.
"Careful, saying such things may cause the opposite effect. What may seem simple on the surface could just be the beginning of a bigger issue." A pause before adding. "A little challenge may not be so bad though. I would like to be able to see a proper display of your swordsmanship."

Neuvillette shook his head as he reached the shore. "Fontaine's land is meant for everyone. It would be quite remiss of me to tell you to leave." He was dripping wet and really didn't seem to mind at all.
"As for why I'm here, I was simply swimming and this is where I ended up. I've lived in Fontaine long enough that I'm able to return to the Court of Fontaine from anywhere else in the country, so I don't worry too much if I go a bit father than I intended. Though I wouldn't say this is unfamiliar territory; the Fortress of Meropide is under the water not far from here."
She turned to look back just as she was getting out. A slight blush on her face. He didn't seem to mind at all. Then again, his social cues were so different from most people. "Ah, and I bet you are a fast swimmer too. Could go out for a break and be back before anyone knew. You were moving through that water so smoothly." Lumine felt like she was an alright swimmer, but compared to people here she was a novice.
@genshingirlies for Lumine and Neuvillette
Lumine probably hadn’t expected to see anyone besides perhaps Treasure Hoarders out here in north western Fontaine, but there was Neuvillette, just out swimming. Did he intentionally come out here, or did he just start swimming and keep going? The latter, probably.
Though what was likely more shocking was finding him dressed down, nothing but a shirt and shorts. He’d probably be wearing less if not for the Fontaine laws about public decency.
He paused when he realized he wasn’t alone, easily jumping out of the water.
“Ah, good day, Traveler. I didn’t expect to see someone this far out.”
It had been awhile since Lumine had traveled to Fontaine. Some of her supplies from there were getting low. Paimon always hated having to scour the area for hours looking for materials, so she was instead left in charge of gathering food supplies. Now the real question would be how much of the food would actually make it into the collection.
She had been stooped down by the shore looking at shells when she heard the sound of water splashing. Glancing over she expected a fish or otter to be nearby, but instead she saw a different kind of sea creature.
Lumine knew he enjoyed swimming, but she had yet to see it for herself. He moved so fluidly. What was even more surprising though was seeing him without all the frills and uniform. Made her drop the shell she was holding when he called out to her. Was it rude to keep staring?
"Oh, hello Neuvillette. You should know I go to all the farthest places. The life of a traveler after all." Turning her glace away, she rubbed at her cheek. "I uh, didn't know this was where you did your swimming. I Can go searching other shores if you'd rather not have an audience."
He had to pause to take that in for a moment.
And then he laughed.
"I think you're the first person who's actually said they want to be my friend," he said. "I guess that makes it official, then."
"Seriously? Uh, well I guess it would be a difficult in your situation." Even more so when you are the warden and most of the people around your prisoners.
"All the more reason for you to move topside. We've got to get you more friends."
"...a housewarming gift?" He arched his eyebrows at that, looking genuinely surprised. "Didn't know you liked me enough for something like that."
"Is it really so strange?" Navia was just used to quickly befriending people she met and sometimes they didn't know it. "I mean it's the very least I could do for the guy that came and saved us just in time."
"Also I decided you're cool and nice so you're my friend now." Said very quickly before sipping on her tea again. Had to stop herself from saying anything too ridiculous.
"...thanks. I appreciate that." At the offer, he nodded and held his cup out. "I plan on getting a house in Court of Fontaine, now that the whole flood prophecy thing is over. Apparently my title grants me some privileges. Maybe I'll get to see more of them, even if they don't know it's me."
"Really? Well that must be exciting." She poured his cup and topped off her own. "About time you have some work life balance right?" He'd been down in that fortress for so long, it would probably also be an adjustment. "When you do, you'll have to let me know. That way I can get you a housewarming gift."

"Yeah, I remember hearing about how many times you burst into court rooms." His voice turned amused. "I don't think he'd like you nagging him about a trial you aren't even old enough to remember."
He looked down to see he'd already finished his tea. Welp.
"...anyway, like I said, I doubt she'll remember me, let alone recognize me. As nice as it would be to see those kids turned out fine, I should probably leave it alone."
"Just because I don't remember it, doesn't mean I can't nag." She wagged a finger. "But I've already given him enough lessons on emotions, probably doesn't need me to yell at him more."
"Should I happen to hear anything, I'll let you know." She lifted the tea pot again. "More tea?"
"Yeah, well, you can take that up with Neuvillette if you want. He presided over my trial and handed down the sentence." Though in the end it wasn't actually him that decided, was it?
"At any rate, like I said, I didn't get a chance to find out what happened to any of the other kids. I guess that's a good thing because that means none of them ended up in Meropide."
"I've already nagged him about trials enough, I'd probably end up banned from Palais Mermonia if I yelled at him for this one too." She was already on thin ice when it came to entering the court room.
"It would probably be difficult to know for sure what happened to them all. As you said, they were not properly documented." She paused to sip on her tea. "Given how young they were, I would bet many of them ended up in places nearby. At the very least, much better off than they would have been."
