“That does sound really neato! You’re a real genius, yanno?”

He offered a brief tail wag in acknowledgment of the canine’s brilliance before shifting the acorn in his arms, eyes studiously skimming over the device, and one could see the wheels turning in his head looking for how it was deployed. “Hmmm…scurry-a-day, scurry-a-day…” Softly muttering to himself the words that were kind of growing on him now, he spoke aloud to help himself to think.

“I wanna test it for you! So we can see how it works. Err-” He raised a lost look up to Wile E. “There aren’t any oak trees here. How’re we gonna test it out?”

“I am. Thank you for noticing.”

Wile E. would take any praise for his genius that he could get, even if it was from something he planned on eating. A hand soon found itself against his chin as he pondered. That did create quite the problem didn’t it? Couldn’t test his invention and secure his snack with a tree to be the bait. Wait a minute! That’s it!

“I think I have just the thing. Give me one second.”

The coyote rushed himself off to his home to fetch the ACME tree-grower kit. That’ll do the trick! He returned shortly and planted a seed in the ground before watering it with the ACME quick-grow bottle. Of course the second he did so the tree sprouted to life and uplifted the coyote quite a bit into the air. Sharp claws clung to the bark as he dangled from a branch.

“Whatever do you occupy your time with? Aside from that, the solitude must be glorious. I couldn’t much stand the heat for long, I’m afraid.  That was.. a long time ago. You prefer it out there, however.  I suppose when you’ve adjusted to the weather, there’s time to go looking for the fascinating local flora and fauna. As well as the aforementioned suspicious shacks.”

She wouldn’t approach the subject of his attentions currently, that would be in bad taste, though the history of someone who had spent that long in those conditions was inherently fascinating.

“Inventing! I have quite the knack for developing all manner of devices!” Wile E. boasted with pride. “From metal machines all the way up to wooden catapults and more! I use them to both test the quality for marketing purposes and eliminate an old opponent of mine.” 

The coyote nods his head. “Oh yes, it quite is. No noisy neighbors, very little traffic, and so forth. The heat is the biggest hurtle but once you’ve mastered it, the desert is comfortable enough for a solitary creature such as myself.”

“That’s the worm! Oh, thank you so much! The world, no, the universe will thank you as well, I assure you!” She looked towards the direction the coyote indicated. Princess couldn’t make heads or tails of this planet on a good day, let alone in a rush.

“I…have to ask you one more thing, I apologize, but will you..show me where he went? You obviously know this place better than I do. I can explain myself further along the way, I owe you that much.”

“I wouldn’t mind.” Wile E. ushered with his hand for the princess to follow him. The Road Runner wasn’t around and he had no inventions to test so why keep himself busy with a small road trip.

Hands were placed behind his back as he walked just off the beaten path. Thankfully the sun wasn’t shining too brightly so it made the desert heat tolerable for today.

“Nobody’s faster than a plasma bolt, you want that pesky critter hunted down, heck, i’ll do it fer free! One less bird is reward enough fer me an’ my segmented kin, that’s fer sure!”

{Hi everyone! I wanna apologize for my absence but I do have some good news!}

Lola smiled up from her seat on the ground, her chest rising and falling slowly with every breath. She stood as he got closer, stretching, although she still seemed to be catching her breath. “You okay?” A gentle hand landed on his back as it cracked, her brow furrowing in slight concern. That didn’t sound good. 

“Well, you had me worried there for a minute, Coyote. Almost thought you’d break my winning streak,” She teased, a quiet ‘thanks’ murmured as he held open the door. “Seriously! You gave me a challenge! None’a the other guys can even keep up with me!” She seemed to be okay, in terms of catching her breath in a few moments, taking a seat at a booth near a window. It seemed she’d forgotten about the Road Runner in the midst of all of their excitement, and she almost blushed, rather embarrassed. 

“—- Well, I dunno about that. Road Runner’s one’a you guys I’d definitely lose to,” She giggled. “Buuut I would like to give that old classic turtle vs. hare race a shot. With Cecil, that one turtle Bugs always loses to? I think it’d be funny. Spinnin’ around the story where the hare wins, only to rub it in the face of another hare, y’know?” A crooked grin graced her features — technically, she and Bugs were not hares, but she always enjoyed the idea of besting the old studio mascot. “Bugs would lose it if I won a race to Cecil.” 

“Oh yes, I’m fine. It’s just my age catching up with me.” A smile is given to hopefully sedate her concern. He was relatively fine now besides the need to catch his breath! “Give or take another fifty years and you’ll be in the same boat, Lola.” Wile E. joked. His chest does puff out with a sense of pride at her remark. It was a tease but he’d think of it as a compliment. After all who else could say they were neck-and-neck against Lola Bunny in a race?

“What can I say? I’m full of surprises!” Wile E. took the seat on the opposite side so that he could easily continue his conversation with Lola. One leg crossed over the other as he rested his back against the seat. Much better.

Brows raised at the mention of the classic turtle vs hare race, specifically of Cecil. The coyote soon let out quite the hefty chuckle as he was greatly amused by the thought. “Oh my! Now that’s the truth. I’m pretty sure Bugs would go looney if that happened. He’d never hear the end of it.” A smile remains upon his face as the thought continues to entertain him.

“She’s fairly young when it comes to the cast of the Looney Tunes but that doesn’t stop me from welcoming her right into the family. Tunes should stick together when cartoons are constantly shifting and changing nowadays! It can be quite scary.”

“My father is doing quite well! Though I haven’t caught the Road Runner, he’s pleased to know I at least make a good deal of money thanks to ACME. He is a little concerned about my beatings but I assure him it’s fine. You get used it after a while anyway. Retirement is doing him good, the extra money I give him monthly helps with that.”

Raising his eyebrows from the satisfaction that his little joke was recognized, Ralph then let his index finger hold up his leaning head as a rest for that arm was supported by his other.

“`*Eh, I’ve been doin’ alrighty. Sam’s been getting a little rough with his side of work, but I’m grateful for such a good health plan I’ve got. Can’t complain.*`”

But he did want to help Wile with his dilemma if he could, and now his chin was being rubbed by his previous support hand.

“`*I’ve got a feelin’ that you wouldn’t be too willing to talk about it, but I’ll ask anyway. What’s this project of yours? Need some help with making plans?*`”

“That’s good news to hear.” The coyote nods his head in an understanding tone. While the Road Runner didn’t hurt him, the gadgets and devices he used to test certainly did! Thank goodness Acme covered all of that, including the health insurance. In fact that was primarily one of the factors that sold him on working for the company in the first place!

He seemed to debate whether or not to share. His intellectual side told him not too as he wanted to figure this out like a true genius! But perhaps...perhaps just a little bit of help wouldn’t hurt.
