        rey freezes mid swing with her saber and twirls to face him  ,  a narrowing of her brows  .  he’s trying to conceal something  ,  knowing she   can’t always control   when she delves into their minds  .  bb-8 begins to chirp nervously  ,  rolling out from behind poe  ,  trying to pass the blame for whatever brought poe to her training grounds onto himself  .  “  why are you both so jittery  ?  ” and then  ,  with a tilt of her her  ,  “ what did you do  ?  ”

Starter for @genflyboy· He couldn’t bring her back. Try as he might, he couldn’t get her eyes to regain the glow he’d fallen in love with, her body hanging limply in his arms as he tried desperately to bring her back but to no avail. It was hours that he had cried, clinging to her lifeless body in his arms before he regained his composure, standing up, his leg barely able to hold the weight of them both but he pressed on as he dragged himself out of Palpatine’s hideout. One foot pressing himself forward, both sabers around his belt with her in his arms he journeyed back to his ship only to see her two friends, the pilot and the traitor, waiting outside for them, the stress of everything coming back to him as he was forced back to reality again, collapsing about a hundred feet in front of them, still holding her in his arms, tears falling from his eyes as he clung to her, “Help.” He managed out, a plea to her friends that were probably ready to kill him.

          they’d   won .   they’d   actually   won .   what   struck   him   harder   was   that   he   hadn’t ,   as   previously   feared ,   lead   his   people   to   their   deaths .   they’d   fired   on   every   cannon ,   bringing   down   the   might   of   the   first   order .   till   every   star   destroyer   was   obliterated .

Renouncing the First Order was ONE thing but to return to the Resistance base with Rey was an entirely DIFFERENT matter. Not only was he certain that the Resistance order would SHOOT first, ask questions later ( not that he could blame them ), but they likely wouldn’t believe a word that he said, even with REY’S confirmation of what he was saying was true. With all he had said and done, it was understandable. He wouldn’t forgive himself either in their shoes, even if he had thought that all he had done was right and for a worthy cause.

A reason as why he had decided to trail BEHIND Rey on the way back, to both avoid being mistaken as the enemy and to avoid being seen and immediately shot down when he landed near to base. It would be a TEMPORARY stop, to allow Rey the time she needed to greet her friends and them the time to discuss what happened next. Whatever came next, would NOT be an easy road for him. People would come for his head; the ordinary, the angry, and whatever was left of the Empire, but deep down, he knew in his heart that this was the step towards, perhaps not redeeming himself, but trying to BETTER himself and better honour the memory of his parents.

Hands pressed against the glass of the scout ship, supporting his weight as he took a deep shuddering breath; DRAINED to the point of being utterly exhausted and WRACKED with agony through every fibre of his being, the approaching visitor was not at first noticed by Ben. It was only when a crack of a branch reached his ears that he realised SOMEONE else was with him. Assuming it to be just Rey, he wasn’t all too worried about it, not until he glanced over his shoulder to see that it was NOT Rey but the resistance pilot he had once interrogated. A sense of dread ( a new sensation in the face of the enemy ) washed over him, pushing aside the exhaustion and pain to turn towards Poe.

While it was unsure whether he had, in fact, been spotted, or if Rey had informed her friends about him, it didn’t really matter in the end. The real question was; was he alone or were there more alerted to his presence? Eyes warily scanned through the trees, feeling out with the force to determine if they truly were alone or not. For now, it seemed like they were. For how long that’d last, though? That was unknown.

Adopting a calm tone, hands raised slowly, a simple of gesture of meaning no harm. This time. He truly hoped ( perhaps in vain ) that it would soothe any immediate urge to attack him.

          exhaustion   had   all   but   settled   into   his   bones .   a   renewed   hope ,   not   that   it   had   been   lost   in   the   first   place ,   with   a   rush   of   adrenaline   had   him   thumping   the   backs   of   his   fighters   &   welcoming   the   newcomers   to   the   cause   with   the   same   amount   of   enthusiasm   he   was   known   for .   what   lay   ahead  ?   he   couldn’t   say   with   certainty .   but   with   the   star   killing   weapons   of   the   first   order   destroyed   &   an   entire   fleet   under   his   command ,   it   seemed   peace   was   truly   an   option   for   the   first   time   in   forever .

                                                       &   he   would   defend   that   peace ,   fight   for   it   just   as   his   general   would   have   wanted   him   to .   just   as   she   trusted   him   to .

          the   only   thing   left   to   do   was   find   rey .   while   they   battled   the   enemies   commanding   large   ships   for   the   first   order ,   she’d   fought   her   own   battle .   he   didn’t   know   how   bad ,   but   he   had   faith   in   the   jedi .   in   his   friend .   the   sound   of   her   touching   down   at   the   base    seemed   to   go   unnoticed   by   everyone   but   him ,   blaster   still   by   his   side   as   he   rushed   over   to  a  thicket   of   trees   only   to   quickly   seek   cover   behind   one .   the   height ,   the   way   the   man   carried   himself .   kylo   ren .

                                                       only ,   he   recognised   his   face .   kind   eyes .   someone   from   his   past .   but   it   couldn’t   be  ?
