Notes on hrihriwa life history:
At birth, a hrihriwa has whatever form their dam has. Most commonly they're born looking like horsefoals, because horses have easier births than humans. Some clans choose to stay centaur their entire life, meaning the child is born as a centaur. Some refugees in human cities choose to seek help from human midwives, necessitating a human birth. And of course there are cases where the dam doesn't have control of her transformations due to pain, so the foal is born with a mix of features.
Hrihriwa are born with the ability to support their own necks, regardless of form.
Hrihriwa are not born with the ability to walk, regardless of form. Their horse form is underdeveloped and needs to be carried around like a human child.
A hrihriwa can't transform until it's about 6 months old, which is where they begin walking.
Hrihriwa have no control over their transformations until they're about 3 years old.
Hrihriwa are born hairless and develop foal fur around the time they start walking. The foal fur is a soft undercoat with no guard hairs. Between ages 8-10 they finally shed their foal fur and develop adult fur.
Hrihriwa hair is a combination of human hair and horse hair. Before shedding the foal fur, their manes and tails stay short and fluffy, while the human hair grows as normal. If you part the hair of a hrihriwa child, you'll find soft woolly fur on their scalp.
Around age 10 they're expected to have complete control over their transformations.
At age 14, their horse hair has reached its full length, and they're expected to braid it (depending on the culture of the clan; not all clans practice braiding). This is also where they take their first steps into adulthood and are allowed to participate in council meetings, trade negotiations, and heavy labor (again, depending on culture).
At age 18 they've reached their full height and will grow no taller.
At age 24 they're considered fully mature adults.
