So this is the plan for the swatch book at the moment. I'm not super happy with it because it doesn't seem that exciting. The plan on this is to have a little blurb about the brand on the left, the swatches in the middle and the look book on the right. The swatches and look book will be attached to the swatch book, so to keep it all together. I think big swatches is a good idea. I know at work small swatches are too hard to work with! 

Planning out the website! Might need some texture for depth.. maybe?! I'm still unsure about the white on black, i prefer the black over white, but I'm also concerned about it getting a bit masculine. 

BUT! good news! They're only roughs, the start of something great. At least the fabric concepts look good!:)

I'm really into doing the cleanest brand you've ever seen. I'm thinking embossing, white on white or maybe a little grey. I just want to make sure the whole thing isn't super kitsch or nanna. I want it to be classy, and make the fabric the feature of it all, give it space to breathe, if you will. I like the element of surprise and I'm thinking white will do all of these things at once. 

Although I really dig on the bottom image with the brown and printed packaging. But why would recycled or brown be appropriate? :S

Anyhow! Thinking, planning and reminding myself, this brand will need:

Website, packaging, swingtags with fabric info, swatch books, lookbooks, do I go as far as business cards and letterheads?

So these are roughs for the first collection! I'm already thinking past just this collection, and have some ideas brewing for more.. But I needed to start somewhere!

So I haven't followed my kaleidoscopic plans, I've just layered textures and flipped and repeated etc. All images contain a structure (ie. church, building, steps, greenhouse) and organic bits, like flowers, trees and rockpools. I do think I need more structure about how to construct them though! 

Basic web mockups! It'll need textures and of course the fabric design. The home page will have a full image on it, that changes. 

After losing my head and changing my mind, here is where we are at!

Yarn will be a fabric design company, providing interesting quirky fabrics to mid range fashion designers. 

Yarn is the thread used to weave fabric. It is essential to fabric creation, and by using this name, I aim to promote the textiles as being essential to every fashion design, essential in creating something great. 

Yarn is also another term for conversation but at a casual level. This will help build the personality for the brand, establishing a casual, friendly vibe. 

Based on Shaun Tan's work I started to look at backgrounds. He used mechanical instructions and diagrams so my first thought for my work was catalogues. It's where people find things to replace the old things with! 

Looking for inspiration I turned to the Lost Thing by Shaun Tan. Not only similar in theme but I really like his illustrations and treatment of layout and background.

Working on different visual approaches today, how to treat the images, adding colour and such. I chose two images to work on, using 3 different mediums I like, watercolour, oil pastels and ink. I don't actually know if I enjoy any of them? Granted I didn't use the paper I should have, I think it cheapens them a bit, taking away from the line work. 

Toy cash Register- I'm missing bits, and I have no money, but I still work, try it! Try it!!!

I'll watercolour some of these tomorrow because I think some are going to need colour, or better still highlight with some pastel?

Sugar Set- We have always said we wouldn't be here if we were a teapot. Now, whatever happened to my spoon?

Brooch- I'm nothing too fancy, but people like to stare. That's very uncomfortable for a little old brooch like me.

Tape- Bet you can't rewind those discs with a pencil?!

Piggy bank- I need money, can I have some? Please?

Tickets- We lost a few men years back. We tickets need to stick together.
