so we’ve read all the online magazine analyses that map taylor’s new relationship onto the lyrics of her new song esp with all the references in the verses but like....the wHOLE SONG is about her deciding when to make the relationship public at all & holding onto it as long as possible and it makes SO MUCH SENSE versus when i first listened to the lyrics

“touch me and you’ll never be alone” is about the media & paparazzi never leaving the guys she dates alone - it’s not her promising to be with him 24/7, it’s that everyone who touches her gets blown up in the public eye. and she knows that this is how it’s gonna go.

in the middle of the night in her dreams, they can be in public together without all the attention. they can do anything! she knows she wants to be with him so she takes her time making the relationship public.

and we all know from all the discussion of 1989 that she likes songs to sound like the mood they’re describing. that’s why “are you ready for it” is so ominous, because she’s asking him if he’s ready for the wild ride of being in a public relationship with him. let the games begin.
