These adorable Sleeping Santa Cookies will be a welcome addition to your holiday baking. The soft, buttery cookies are shaped like Santa napping and are sure to put a smile on everyone's face. Perfect for holiday entertaining with family and friends.
Ingredients: 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour. 1 cup unsalted butter, softened. 1 cup granulated sugar. 1 large egg. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. 1/2 teaspoon almond extract. 1/2 teaspoon salt. Red food coloring gel. Mini chocolate chips. Powdered sugar.
Instructions: Put the softened butter and granulated sugar in a large bowl and mix them together until they are light and fluffy. Add the almond extract, vanilla extract, and egg to the mix and beat until everything is well mixed. Mix the flour and salt into the wet ingredients slowly until a dough forms. Cut the dough in half and set each half aside. In one half, add the red food coloring gel and knead it until the color is spread out evenly. Put each piece of dough in its own plastic wrap and put it in the fridge for at least 30 minutes. Warm your oven up to 350F 175C and put parchment paper on a baking sheet. Make a thin rope out of a small piece of red dough. Do it again with the white dough. Twist the ropes together and shape them on the baking sheet to look like Santa sleeping. Put small chocolate chips in Santa's suit for the eyes and buttons. After the oven is hot, bake the cookies for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges are just beginning to turn golden. After taking the cookies out of the oven, leave them on the baking sheet to cool for a while. To make Santa's hat and suit look "snowy," sprinkle powdered sugar on top of the cookies. Move the cookies to a wire rack to cool completely before storing them in a container that won't let air in.
