and yet another thing i love about these books is how well they deal with death. i really like that even though i didn’t know redtail, i can still feel sad for his passing. it’s also done with a surprising amount of maturity??? especially for something with such a campy setting as ‘a clan of cats all hunt and live together’.

Honestly??? Same?? I used to get sad every time I reread the prologue, knowing what was gonna happen like “Redtail!! DDD:” even tho he’s barely in it lol. And I think the reader’s feelings for Redtail is really effected by how much Hunter shows the other cats mourn for him. We know by their reactions that Redtail was a great asset to the clan and his loss has a big impact on the clan. It’s a good demonstration of showing vs. telling. Hunter could’ve just said “The cats mourned Redtail” but instead Hunter showed them actively mourning him.

And thus, I live up to my url’s name.

yes!! exactly this!! i love that so much about the books, because even if we didn’t know the characters intimately, we felt sorrow for the ones that were left. it’s a completely different reason than why bluestar is such a tragedy; while we get to know her and then watch as she crumbles, characters like redtail and other cats are sad because the cats we do know are freaking devastated.

which is cool and, like you said, a very good example of ‘show, don’t tell’.

#warrior cats #gecko reads #the foreshadow i ng #actually now that i'm on the subject #which i wasn't #really #but now i am #tigerclaw is such a good character #esp in this first book #because looking at him he's never overtly hostile to anyone except maybe ravenpaw #and even then we can just assume he's trying to toughen him up #it really gives people a good reason not to suspect him seeing as 'tough love' is such a common troupe #not to mention #it explains why the rest of the clan so readily trusts him #esp considering how much they favor loyalty #hell even when he so clearly wanted to be deputy #the only thing hunter wrote in response to his being passed over was him nudging lionheart a bit too hard #and tbh #i think that's great #certainly beats those obnoxiously villainous characters imo #if i hadn't read these books before i don't think i would have suspected him for awhile #maybe that's just me though #poor ravenpaw though #he used to be one of my favorites tbh #although as it is he hasn't been given much dialogue so far #i missed these characters #jskfd
