'VHS' (Video Home System) - a Lament, and why we should all resist the forced viewing of Ads in the digital age Now consigned to history as a redundant medium, superceded by all things digital, but before we acknowledge and celebrate the crystal clear benefits and easy access of digital media, we may forget one defining, crowning achievement of the VHS format .. You were never, ever, enslaved to watching advertisements (you could fast forward at any point) .. can you think of any situation in the digital sphere, be it watching a video on YouTube, a DVD, even a video clip on the BBC website where you have to watch a preceding advert before you get to your intended destination. At least sound is still under our control - we have the power to mute the audio, for now .. It makes us obsequious to our media content providers. There were times before forced ads pervaded all ..

Prison Sainte Anne, Avignon, France

Fantastic exhibition in the former prison Sainte-Anne in Avignon, France. Part of the Lambert Collection (Avignon) and includes artists such as Nan Goldin, Joseph Beuys, Duncan Gordon, Louise Bourgeois, exhibition spaces are the former cells of the prison (decommissioned in 2002, and according to the gallery attendant, has remained as it was when it closed). A fantastic exhibition, very inspiring ..
