Shall We Begin?

“Then I’ll have Watari start looking into it. I’m not wearing it all the time, though, so if that’s the goal you can save yourself the wait and write it down now.” Honestly, the thought of getting into the cosplay in the first place was already making his skin crawl, but he could deal with it.

“Yes, that’s right. You command a band of mercenaries to stop a war I believe. I don’t really look into the games we ordered for you unless you bring them to my attention, but I recognized the name. It’s a very popular series.”

“Wouldn’t expect you to. Besides, if you did, it would get old fast, and that’s no fun. Wouldn’t want me to get bored of it, and by extension, you too soon, would we?” He doesn’t give him time to answer, before speaking again. “No, I don’t think we would.”

“Not yet. Is it multiplayer? And I don’t have to have played it to make you dress up.”

“Mnn…No, the box said single player. Don’t worry, though, I’m sure if you can’t figure it out, I could always help you.”

He paused.

“I know Watari can mend minor tears, but I’m not sure how much of a tailor he is. You’d have to wait for a costume commission to be finished, if it really means that much to you.”

“Waiting’s fine. I can wait. It’ll be worth it to see you dressed up like that. You look just like the guy, you know.” He idly reaches for an apple, taking a bite of it when he gets one. 

“You know there are…other foods in the human world, right?”

Seems like L’s in deep, deep thought again. 

What could he possibly be thinking?

“You know,” He muses, somewhat to himself, somewhat to L, as he finishes off yet another apple, he had selected from the fruit bowl. “Once you actually catch Kira, I’m just going to drop the notebook again, so that someone else can find it. And chances are whoever manages to get their hands on it won’t be as fun to chase as the current Kira is. That is of course,” A pause.

“I SAID NO!”

It was stupid. It was even more than stupid, really, but he had to do something. He couldn’t let Ryuk kill her, no matter what it cost himself. 

The boy lunged, making a grab for his notebook to tug at with all of his might, “LEAVE HER ALONE!”

“ Normally, I would throw anything a person gifts me, but you’ve got my interest. “ What a strange looking creature, he thought. Was he some sort of new breed of pokemon? No, pokemon don’t usually talk. He bends the book a bit, toying with its elastic.

“Well then, maybe you just want /me/ to write her name down for you?” He wouldn’t do it. It wouldn’t be fun that way, too easy, and he’d have nothing to gain from it. No, but that didn’t mean he had to tell Barry that.

Barry shot up from his curled position, staring up at the shinigami with an indescribable look of desperation. He couldn’t threaten him; it would only egg him on. Besides, it wasn’t like you could kill a god of death. 

What a way to stop someone from crying: With sheer, unfiltered panic. 

“No. No, no, no please. Please. Don’t. Leave her alone. Please leave her alone.”

“Awfully attached to someone who just stomped on your heart and spat on the remains, aren’t ya?” He replies, idly taking out his own Death Note, and pen. “Come on kid, let me do this for you, we’re buddies, right? Buddies should look out for each other.” He replies, flipping the notebook to a blank page, and placing the pen against the surface. “That is of course,”

“Oh, yes! So many surprises, indeed~! But I gotta ask you something, my friend… Regarding your little book, here~”

Mew leaned closer towards the death god, a wicked smile forming on her features.

“Can this book kill gods?”

“Dunno. Never tried. I know it can’t kill Death Gods. Then again the notebook does say “the human whose name is written in this notebook shall die”, so. But...”
