Smoke rises in twisting ribbons as he takes his last drag of his cigarette, ash sprinkling across the cobbled streets. He’s nearly down to the filter and beginning to taste it, but to stop would be to relinquish his last few moments of solitude. Or as close to it as one can get in a city such as Lumiose, where even small side streets are crowded mazes with far too many men and women stepping into his personal space.
Two weeks in this city and its thirteen days too long already. He exhales his final breath of the cigarette with a long sigh and crushes it under his heel. No rest for the wicked and there’s a boardroom full of men in suits still waiting for his return. And they would likely wait days on end if need be for a chance to continue. It’s a tempting thought and it’s all it’ll ever be. Even this smoke break, satisfying as it might have been, has only dragged on these dull affairs.
“Come on.” He speaks to Persian, dutifully waiting for her master this entire time as she’s always done. But he manages to walk half way back to the building when he realizes that his faithful pokémon isn’t following. He frowns, searching the area for a sign of his companion and finding nothing.
“Persian,” he snaps and his steps become a little more agitated. It’s unlike her to not be at his side immediately. He rounds a street corner and nearly barrels into a stranger when he passes an alley and spots a familiar blur of cream coloured fur. Strange. This couldn’t be his Persian, she was far too finicky and spoiled to ever wander into a such a place, but there was no doubting it when he steps deeper into the alley, making a face at the filth and the stench.
There was his Persian, hair standing on end, claws out and completely oblivious to her master’s presence. The entirety of her focus on another creature, another feline – a hideous looking abomination with only the vaguest similarities to a cat.
