The scene in the very first episode of Hannibal when Will dramatically says âheâs eating themâ, referring to Hobbs victims, with then the cut to Hannibal preparing dinner while classical music is playing is just⊠comedic. Itâs a brilliant introduction to Hannibal as a character bc while everyone else is suffering, is taking psychological damage, Hannibal is having the time of his life.
When watching Hannibal you canât be shocked or horrified at the subject matter, you have to get over it bc the show is very much using it as a metaphor and using it as a background and aesthetic. Ethics become aesthetics. Everything that happens is horrific but thatâs not important, thatâs not the point, so they throw it in your face right at the beginning.
