On this day, November 1st, in 1512, the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel was revealed to the public. After demonstrating his mastery of sculpture in such works as the Pieta (1498) and David (1504), he was called to Rome in 1508 to paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel—the chief consecrated space in the Vatican.

In 1975, 26-year-old Bruce Springsteen had two heavily promoted major-label albums behind him, but nothing approaching a popular hit. Then on this day, October 11, 1975, the epic single “Born to Run” became his first Top 40 hit, marking the start of his transition from little-known cult figure to international superstar. He has scored 29 more top 40 hits in the 44 years since. Still the Boss!
