Ordalie (Ordeal)
UniFrance published the short film “Ordalie” (aka “Ordalie”) on YouTube. The dramedy was originally released in 2018. Unfortunately, it’s only available for viewers outside of France.
(Content warning: Gaspard’s character dies in this story.)
Gaspard appeared in the in memoriam segment at yesterday's SAG Awards ceremony.
Césars 2022
The 47th César ceremony took place on February 25 and was dedicated to Gaspard. If you missed it, you can still watch the recording until April 27 on the Canal+ website.
Director Xavier Dolan held a 10-minute-speech to honor his deceased friend. Deadline published an abridged English translation:
“I wanted to pay homage to my friend, our friend, Gaspard. I decided to do it in the form of a letter.
Madame,
I’m writing this letter to you without knowing you well.
Outside, behind the window of my room in the woods where I have sought refuge, the snow twirls in the air. It is transfigured by the light of the sun, and the wind persists in beating it into loose snow. Big conifers rise in front of me, covered with a very heavy white deposit. Winter is calm, all of a sudden, after a brutal start.
I knew that in coming here to seek out isolation I was going to start thinking and writing about Gaspard. And other than for an article, an interview or a prize, believe me that I had no intention to do so.
The day he died, I sought out his company by rewatching a number of his films, including A Very Long Engagement…Perhaps I intentionally decided that this film would confirm things that we refuse to see, that I still refuse tonight, for example, to see, to believe.
But I didn’t come here to speak about the career of Gaspard Ulliel — I could recount the list of brilliant exploits and feats, of starry passages among the stars of the Riviera, of the industry. But what effect could these things have on the gaping wound of his departure?
I couldn’t help but think he would have hated this kind of elegy. He would have perceived a lack of elegance in this glorification. And he was very elegant…His talent we still have and that, no can take away.
It is the privilege of being famous and an actor of his light to be able to count on art to fade us into eternity while other important bereavements for some remain unknown to all or become so quickly evanescent.
It’s a whole world that cried for Gaspard, it’s a whole world that still mourns him.”
Gaspard's family is honoring his memory by raising donations for TaraOcéan, an organization focused on the protection of marine biodiversity.
If you plan to donate money or if you want to learn more about TaraOcéan, you should visit their homepage.

Gaspard passed away exactly one month ago. I still can't really fathom that he is gone and yet, I already miss him.
Thanks to everyone who reached out, I'm sending you all lots of love!
Au revoir et merci pour tout, Gaspard !
Gaspard's funeral took place earlier today. I wish him a peaceful rest and his loved ones the strength it takes to grieve a loss like this one.
Gaspard's funeral has been announced. It will take place next Thursday (January 27, 2022) in Paris at the church Saint-Eustache.
I'm still devastated. It's been such a shock to hear of his passing. He's been a big part of my life, even though I never knew him personally. And I'm aware many of you feel the same way. I hope you're okay.
My heartfelt condolences go out to his family and friends. Please respect their privacy and let them grieve in peace. Thank you!
César-winning actor also portrayed Yves Saint Laurent in a biopic
I have no words right now. Rest in peace.
General Update
I've really neglected this site, haven't I? Sorry! Please remember that I always try to share updates on Twitter (@ullieldaily).
Here's my attempt to wrap up any news concerning Gaspard's career that you might have missed:
He's been in a French TV film that looks both silly and like a lot of fun! "La vengeance au triple galop" is a parody of the '80s television series "Return to Eden" and Gaspard really nailed the look if you ask me:
You can watch the trailer on YouTube.
~
Maybe you can recall that I already mentioned "More Than Ever" (aka "Plus que jamais") a while ago. The feature is now in post-production and will be released later this year. A photo of Gaspard on set with director Emily Atef:
Something noteworthy about the project: "More Than Ever" is an eco-responsible production, meaning the film-makers tried to keep the shoot as environment-friendly as possible. (Find some additonal info here.)
~
Now let's talk RUMORS and mystery projects:
Unfortunately, I still have no idea if "La bête dans la jungle" (click) has been cancelled or not. I hope not!
Here's a photo of Gaspard on the set of... well, I don't know. But there's been a recent casting call for a future TV series called "D'argent et de sang" starring Gaspard. So it's possible the photo is from that project. Or not.
Last but certainly not least: Gaspard might have become part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe! The way this info has been leaked (I'll spare you the details) is not entirely trustworthy, so I'm careful with this announcement (even though the title has already been added to his IMDb profile). IF we're lucky and it's all true, Gaspard is going to play Midnight Man (aka Anton Mogart) in the upcoming Disney+ series "Moon Knight". It looks like we'll get the first trailer next week and I expect it will either confirm or rebut the rumor. I'd be absolutely thrilled to see Gaspard in a big international show!

“More Than Ever” About To Start Shooting
Gaspard is going to star in director Emily Atef’s next feature film “More Than Ever” alongside Vicky Krieps. Shooting is going to start in April!
Variety published an article about it.
New Project: “La Bête”
It’s been a year since my last update, oops. Well, the pandemic affected all of our lives in some way, didn’t it? However, I’m glad I finally have some news for you!
Gaspard is going to star in director Bertrand Bonello’s next feature film “La Bête” alongside Léa Seydoux. The three of them have previously worked together on “Saint Laurent” (2014).
(As far as I know “La Bête” and “La Bête dans la jungle” are two different projects. I haven’t heard anything new about the latter though; I hope it hasn’t been cancelled.)
Sorry for the long break. I'm alive, Gaspard is alive. And hopefully I'll get around to updating this blog soon. In the meantime, check out @UllielDaily on Twitter. I'm more active there.
