Sleep is amazing, it’s like getting a free trial of being dead every night
Sometimes I think I have felt everything I’m ever gonna feel. And from here on out, I’m not gonna feel anything new. Just lesser versions of what I’ve already felt.

Every Record I Own - Day 72: BadBadNotGood III
I’m going out of sequence today because of another misfiled record. This was a recent purchase from Easy Street Records in Seattle, WA. It was the day after the 4th of July and I was getting ready to hop on a plane back to NYC when I stopped into the record shop while running a few last minute errands. The music playing in the store sounded like Tortoise’s tasteful kitchen-sink take on modern jazz with more assertive grooves and solid beats. I wondered if it was one of their more recent albums that had escaped my attention, but the guy at the counter excitedly informed me that it was a Canadian group called BadBadNotGood. He guided me over to the hip-hop section, because apparently the band built their reputation by collaborating with artists like Tyler the Creator, Kendrick Lamar, Earl Sweatshirt, Danny Brown, and Ghostface Killah. I walked out with a copy of the album.
This is how I like to discover music. I like hearing it in an environment outside of my house, played by someone who’s enthusiastic about it. Obviously, the internet is a great tool for learning about new artists, but there’s so much content, so much hype, so much PR sales pitch, that sometimes it’s hard for me to really feel much enthusiasm for new music posted online. But record stores? I feel like I’m always hearing something new and exciting when I walk into a well-curated shop.
