Minneapolis Rebuilt: Backstory Summary Part I of III
By 2020 Minneapolis had achieved what no other Division could; it had modernized and diversified all of its 12 districts. With advances in AI technology, Minneapolis had the strongest economy in the world, the rich were the richest in existence, but due to large corporations filling the demand by using AI Robots as efficient self-sustaining employees, a large gap was created. This gap was filled with the unemployed, the poor, the old, the weak⌠this gap, known to you as poverty, was given a location and a name by the Order of the Division, and they called it Mira.
The Order created a city, a city where the ill, the weak, the unsuccessful and poor could live away from the more privileged. It was a large secure gated city where the damned were forced to live, where crime was no longer frowned upon but expected as a way of life, a city with no laws, no mercy, no way out.
Then, years later without warning, a virus sent from the heart of Mira by the criminal organization known only as LSI (La Spietato Italiani) which was run by a man only referred to as Mill, found its way into a well-guarded military base in the Capital itself. What followed was never meant to happen, all LSI wanted to do was hurt the Capitals economy, bug the AI Robots so corporate giants would be forced to employ workers out of MiraâŚall LSI was trying to do was even the balance out. Nobody predicted that this would be the beginning of the end of Minneapolis.
The AI Machines defected and turned hostile against their creators. Like a bad movie, things went to hell pretty fast. All out warfare broke out in Minneapolis and the remaining 11 districts run by AI Robots were torn apart.
Full scale military attacks were carried out, cities were almost entirely wiped and then, things only got worse.
The military in a last ditch to disable the AI mainframe attempted to bomb the Chemical Plant the mainframe was built over, that, as you might imagine, didnât work out as planned. The city where the Plant was located was called Eden; youâll understand the irony of the name shortly.
Eden, after the chemical plant bombing, turned into hell. Everyone within the districts bounds was infected and died. The military quarantined Eden and made sure nobody could ever get out, or in. What they didnât know was that the mainframe was never destroyed, it was still there, just disabledâŚfor now.
By 2028, Minneapolis was again under the control of the more aggressive Order. Only this time, corporations had suffered badly, and were now in need of workers. Miraâs doors opened, and Minneapolis was flooded with eager souls looking for retribution, looking for work, and some, looking for revenge.
With reports circulating that there was activity within Eden, though no life detected, and all other districts torn to shreds, Miraâs walls came down and Minneapolis, slowly but surely, was Rebuilt. Miraâs name was changed to Mill City and became the new Downtown.
With the new Minneapolis inhabitants, things quickly started to change; new workers were flooding the Division as survivors from the other districts came into the main city to start a new life. But as with any revolution of sorts, crime became the centerfold of everything that went on. Crime rates in every other district shot to an all-time high as now they were no longer bound by any laws. The only city governed and where laws were heavily enforced was the main Minneapolis Capital where the Order ruled with an iron fistâŚthat didnât stop criminals from finding ways to earn a living by breaking the law though.
It was now 2030, life in Minneapolis was back on track, the Mill City was being rebuilt and new jobs were being introduced, crime was at an all-time high though and something evil was rising from within Eden, though nobody could figure out what. Robots were banned, the mainframe as far as the Order was concerned no longer existed and people were rebuilding the once great Minneapolis.
