or rather having a crush on a co-worker who you know doesn’t like you so you force it down while still nursing a broken heart is exhausting.

and yet… something inside me says this is different. that there’s something between us even if neither of us are acting on it. that this won’t end with me in tears again.

the last time i felt a certainty like that was right before i landed a job i really wanted.

but i can’t take that risk. i’m still living with the trauma. that break up absolutely shattered my world. i will never be the same. i will always wonder about him, but he doesn’t return the feeling.

and now i find myself enamored with someone. he’s kind and friendly, makes you feel welcome. it actually feel right being around him. there’s this calm and safety i feel with him that i’ve never felt with the others – that i never felt with my ex.

when we do get to work together and talk, it’s so easy – it’s so easy being with him.

he makes me feel seen.

he looked inside, felt around and saw just what a wretched thing i am… and he didn’t flinch.

he touched a part of me that up until recently i thought was dead.

but deep down i know how this ends….
