When it comes to backgrounds, they can be either very detailed (like in the previous post) or even just simple/sketchy. It all comes down to what you want to show.Â

Another trick I like to use? Sketchy lines, fancy lighting :D Don’t worry about making the background perfect, try using sketchy-loose lines. Let your lighting and shadows make the piece pop out!

If you don’t like sketchy lines, that’s okay! Start out with a sketch, but gradually refine it, cleaning up the lines, redrawing lines. Even if it takes a little more time, it will be worth it in the end. :)Â

And remember, Use References! This may be the most important thing of all. You can’t draw a Tim Horton’s without having a few reference pics on hand!Â

Let each new piece be a experience, even if it’s difficult and takes a whole 2 weeks to do (like the Tim Horton’s pic xD).
