“Honestly? I’ve just been working a lot and then planning this special birthday for Spence,” she said, “I mean, of course working isn’t so much working as it is doing what I’m passionate about, like, writing music never feels like work, it just feels like freedom,” she explained. “But I’ve been churning out a lot of covers until I’m ready to release any new originals. I’m actually crazily perfectionistic when it comes to the final versions of my songs, like, they won’t see the light of day until- sorry, I’m talking your ear off,” she laughed a little. “Is there any music you’re excited about lately?” she asked as they stopped at a red light. 

“I asked,” Gail said nonchalantly, glancing over at Marley’s side profile. “It’s been the same old playlist for me, so nothing new. I don’t usually find new things to like for myself, it’s usually prompted by others. Sometimes when my brother send me stupid shit, some of them are pretty decent.” She shrugged. “Not that I am reaffirming his poor taste, but in the rare times that he gets it right. What’s your suggestion? And don’t you dare say Taylor Swift.”

Marley nodded, “I can deal with that,” she said, “Hey! My sweater is just fine, right? I mean, I’m wearing jeans, but this sweater is nice! I got it at the cutest little shop!” She laughed, turning on her music and humming along. 

Rolling her eyes in mirth, Gail tried to hide her smile. “I’m sure you did, somewhere tucked into the corner where drug deals just so happen to take place as well.” Not knowing what else to say, Gail mulled over her choices. On one hand, she could take the opportunity to get to know Marley a little bit more, maybe even ask about her annoying sister - not that she cared remotely about Casey, because that’s a little gay - but on the other hand, she didn’t want to come off as too friendly. God knows what can of worms that would open if anyone were to think Gail was the talkative type. “So... Did anything interesting lately?”
