Google Driverless Car

A project  that I follow closely is the Google Driverless Car. I believe that this car will change the world. I now have to drive one hour to work and one hour back. So that’s 2 hours that I lose per day! That’s a lot! It would be great to just sit in the car and that I can already read my mails when going to work. This would really save me a lot of time.

Now we all have to pay insurance and I’m wondering what the Google Car will do towards insurance. Will it be more expensive? Or imagine in a perfect world without any bugs and all that the Driverless Car really works without any flaws and car accidents will be reduced to zero! Do I still have to pay insurance?!

Google please also take it one step further! One thing I also find a waste of time is getting gas. One thing that I’m hoping is that Google will make the car on electricity. Because instead of getting gas, it would be great that you would have parking spaces that would automatically charge your car. It’s the same system like the wireless charging for your smartphone. @Google maybe an idea?

Fingerreader

The Fingerreader is a device that you place on your index finger. This tool can be used for the visually impaired and/or as an aid for language translation. It scans the text and immediately the wearer receives the audio. At this moment the Fingerreader is still a prototype. Check it out here.

Citizenme

Very interesting app this Citizenme. The app collects your personal data from Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin,…In this way you can check your “Virtual You” and own your own data. The goal in the long run of Citizenme is that you can sell your own personal data to advertisers and so receive a commission. Advertisers nowadays are begging for this information. At this moment the app is only available in beta on iOS but it will be available for the other OS in the summer. I’m signing up, are you?  Check it out here.

The Microsoft Smartwatch!

Wearables are Tha Bomb nowadays. If you don’t have a wearable, you’re not trending. I have to admit, I have a wearable. I have a Fitbit Flex and to be honest I’m quite happy with it except that it doesn’t measure your heartbeat.

Now everybody knows by now that I’m a big Windows fan. So that’s why I’m very curious about the Microsoft Smartwatch that is coming up.

The Microsoft Smartwatch has one very big advantage, it will also be compatible with Android and Apple. This is amazing and very smart. Samsung for example only lets their wearables connect with other Samsung devices. So well done Microsoft!

Also according to the rumors the Microsoft Smartwatch will continuously measure your heartbeat. This is great. This is really something that I miss with the current wearables.

We don’t know a lot about the release date yet. But we’ve been told that we can expect the first smartwatches will hit the market in the summer.

Facebook announces new tool.

Facebook announced a new tool that will make it more easy to update your profile status. From now on, it will be possible to add the music you are listening to or the TV eerie you are watching to your status. They build a new app that will add it automatically threw sound recognition.

The app uses your cell phone’s microphone to detect noises in the environment and is able to identify millions of songs and TV-series from over 160 different channels.

The user has to activate the app themselves. Afterwards, all the info will be uploaded to your status automatically. Facebook friends will be able to take a look at a 30 second preview through your link. (The link can be deleted if wanted)

Because of copyright it is not possible to see previews of TV-series. Instead the season and the specific episode will be shared with a thumbnail and a link to the series Facebook page.

Project Tango: Create a 3D Model Of Everything Around You

Project Tango! WOW, but really WOW! Google is momentarily working on a new phone with special software. With this software you will be able to track the full 3-dimensional motion of the device as you hold it while simultaneously creating a map of the environment.

How does this work?

The phone has sensors which will be able to make over a quarter million 3D measurements every second. It will combine all data in real-time to update its position and orientation and make a 3D model of the space around you.

If this works, the possibilities will be indeed limitless. Google gives this example of:

Walking into a store and detect immediately where your product is

Play Hide-and Seek in your home with a specific fictional character

Thief caught thanks to "Find my iPhone".

We all know the app “Find my iPhone’. Very welcome when you’ve forgotten where you put your iPhone. But it can also come in handy when your phone has been stolen.

In Ghent, in Belgium, the police caught a thief thanks to the app. Her purse was stolen in a bar. When the police arrived, she told them her iPhone was in it. When checking “Find my iPhone”, they saw that the thief was moving fast, probably by car.

Google deposes Apple as most valuable brand.

According to BrandZ, Google is the biggest brand in the world and would be worth 159 billion dollar. An increase of 40% compared with last year.

Apple lost 20% of its value but is still the second biggest brand with 148 billion dollar.

The fastest grower is the Chinese website Tencent, that doubled it’s value. The second fastest grower is Facebook.

Netflix is coming to Europe.

Before the end of 2014, Netflix will be launched in Europe. The American provider of movies and TV series has announced officially that they will start up in Belgium, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France and Luxembourg.

Netflix is an internet television company that provides entertainment for a fixed amount every month. Who becomes a member will be able to watch movies and TV-series on every device: Tv, tablet, mobile phone, game console and computer.

For the moment, Netflix has 48 million members worldwide, and is available in more than 40 countries. They are also known for the fact that they provide a few unique series like ‘House of Cards’ and ‘Orange is the New Black’.

I like to have all my files on all my devices. So what do I do? I send them to my mailbox. It’s quite annoying but I didn’t came to any alternative until now with Pushbullet!

How does it work:

Add Pushbullet to your pc through the extension of Firefox or Chrome

Download the app for iOS or Android

Now on the right hand side on the top of your browser a green bullet icon appears, click on it

You will see the following:

On the first line you can choose to which device you want to send

On the second line you can put the subject

On the third line you can put the link and some extra text

Below you can still select other features: Send text, Link, Attachment, List & Address

It works very well and it’s fast only one downside like always: Not available for Windows Phone… But it’s a MUST HAVE.

Ebay asks users to change password after hacking.

The American auction site Ebay has fallen victim to hackers. The company asks all users to change their passwords. No payments details would have been stolen.

Ebay admits that hackers got their hands on logins of some of their employees and have access to the company network. The cyber attack took place between the end of Feburary and the beginning of March but was only discovered recently.

A database containing user names, locked passwords, email addresses, addresses, phone numbers and bithdays was broken into.

Good news is that all financial data are saved in another database so the hackers will not have access to your bank accounts.

I like this extension, it makes everything go a lot faster! No more opening another tab and copy/type the word or sentence.

At this moment it still quite basic so I hope they will upgrade with some new releases.

Apple’s iCloud hacked!

A group of Dutch and Moroccan hackers have found a way to break into Apple’s security system.

This has given them the possibility to reset locked iPhones and cell them again. Stolen and locked iPhones are often sold for between 50 and 150 dollar. When unlocked, they can be sold for between 400 and 750 dollar, depending on the model, which means a massive profit for the hackers selling the phones.

The hackers say that they have unlocked 30.000 iPhones, only in the last few days.

According to Mark Logan, security expert at SurfRight, the hackers put a fake computer between the iPhone and the Apple systems in the iCloud that give permission to unlock a mobile device.

Microsoft Surface Pro 3: The Tablet That Will Replace Your Laptop, Really Now?

Microsoft is already coming out with their Surface Pro 3. The first Surface came out in 2012 and I’m an owner of it. To be honest I wasn’t a big fan of the tablet in the beginning.

Why?

It was slow, it crashed often and a lot of stuff just didn’t work.

What saved the Surface?

Windows 8.1! This was the stuff I was waiting for! Everything now runs a lot smoother and faster. Windows doesn’t have the amount of apps like Android and iOS but the big ones are present.

And be honest, a lot of apps are just a waste of time!
