Deltarune Connected feels like a fever dream

"Be present towards my family? No, thanks! I'd rather invalidate my workers and objectify my wife."

Note: I like Edwin as a character, that's exactly why I hate him

To start off: No, Edwin is not that sympathetic. Everything bad that happened to him was fully deserved.

"Oh, he lost his wife and was grieving"

He did not even care about Fiona as a person due to how involved in his work he was! We even see this in his audio logs:

"(...)You were supposed to be here with me and David. Ugh! How am I supposed to tell David that his mother is gone? How am I supposed to raise a kid on my own? His life is ruined... My life is ruined."

This is not someone who is grieving Fiona, this is a man grieving a wife, a concept! This is even backed up by him creating M1 AKA F10N4, he reacts to Fiona's death by creating a replacement. A robot whose purpose was to care for David, showing how he viewed Fiona as nothing more than a housewife instead of the creative and kind person she was. This is further shown by him pitching M1 to David

" It can fit into any costume we've created. Think of it as your new babysitter. But it doesn't get paid and go home. It'll stay with us and help around the house."

You cannot convince me this man saw her as anything more than a wife at this point of his life.

"Oh, he lost his SON and was grieving"

THAT WAS HIS FAULT! HE BUILT THE PLAYGROUND IN A HORRIBLE PLACE AND IGNORED CONCERNS. HE DIDN'T SHIFT HIS WORK TO CARE FOR HIS SON, HE SHIFTED HIS SON'S LIFE TO WORK MORE.

"Look, I get your concerns, I do, but they're all just groundless. This is the perfect spot for David's playground. I can watch him play while I'm loading and unloading freight, and he'll be under watch at all times out there. The loading dock is like two hundred feet away, and there's a fence and everything. I know you're my lawyer and all, but there's no regulation that says I can't have it there, so just get off my back. Besides, David loves the new slide. It'll be fine."

This neglect was what caused his son to die. HIS NEGLECT. AND THIS WASN'T A POST-FIONA THING EITHER, HE'S JUST LIKE THAT:

"That's great, Honey, but you're missing the party."

"David's two years old. He won't remember a thing"

Okay, but surely he comes to his senses after his family dies, right?

RIGHT?

NOPE

When David died, he does realize he neglected David, I'll give him that, the issue is that he immediately shifts the blame onto M1, something that only exists thanks to him.

"All this time wasted! I should have been having fun with him, playing games and teaching him how to make things... But, I didn't. You. You! I let a machine raise my kid. You're not real. What was I thinking?!"

HE CREATES A ROBOT WHOSE ENTIRE PURPOSE WAS TO BE FIONA AND GOT MAD WHEN IT ACTED LIKE IT WAS FIONA. MY BROTHER, YOU MADE IT THAT WAY.

THEN, WHEN M1 ASKS HIM TO MAKE ANOTHER DAVID, he says it wouldn't be him despite having replaced a woman with a robot and not showing nearly as much reluctance (Almost like he values men more than women).

When Edwin finally makes M2, A BEING DESIGNED TO BE A DAVID, TO BE A CHILD, HE GOT MAD AT IT FOR ACTING LIKE A CHILD AND BROKE HIM. THIS IS BAD AS IT IS BUT M2 IS SENTIENT, THIS IS FNAF AFTER ALL, ROBOTS CAN GAIN LIFE FROM STRONG EMOTIONS. HE DID THE EQUIVALENT OF HITTING A CHILD FOR BEING CHILD-LIKE, HE WAS JUST A KID. LOOK AT MY BABY

EDWIN WHEN I CATCH YOU-

Okay, he messed up, does he show signs of remorse towards his actions?

NOPE

When M2 fixes itself, it confronts Edwin after the MCM explosion, the only apology M2 receives is:

"I'm... I'm sorry, M2. I... lost my temper. I was always going to fix you... Please... call for help... M2. Respond."
