Most Dangerous Soldier

It’s Honey’s 10th birthday today! I adopted Honey when she was 1 years old, I didn’t want to get my hopes up before meeting her in case it all fell through, but the very first time I met her she jumped straight into my arms and that was that.

When I adopted her she was originally named Annie, but I thought ‘Annie? Little orphan Annie? That’s kind of a downer. Screw that’. So I had a chat with her early on and asked her if she wouldn’t mind being renamed Honey because it kind of has the same cadence but without the adopted orphan connotation and the name matches the colour of her fur very well and I thought it might suit her. She was completely fine with it. She just looked at me with wide sparkly eyes and her tongue lolling out in agreement.

And anyway, Honey has been my best friend ever since. The best companion I could ask for and my steadfast source of comfort. She was by my side during my grandfather’s death, my last serious break up, and rage quitting my last job. All of these events occurred fairly close together after bringing her home, she must have thought to herself ‘omg this is awful, what the hell have I been adopted into?’ because I was just crying and crying and cryinggg, and she would always just nudge me with her nose and tap my thigh with her paw, looking at me with those deep brown eyes as if to say ‘Um… there, there. Pull it together now.’

And I’ve been there devoted to her through her hard times as well: like when she got terribly sickly with pyometra and needed me to hand feed her food and water every day because she was so poorly, and when she got diagnosed with cancer. When she went through her operations. I was so scared I was going to lose her, but she’s always been a scrappy little thing.

But she’s also been there through all the good bits of my life as well, every small achievement I’ve managed to blunder my way through, and my entire relationship with Jordan who she loves, and he is like… not a step dad, he’s the dad who stepped up. She has always enjoyed clambering all over him. Although she doesn’t call him dad, to her he is simply ‘Boy Mountain’.

Happy 10th birthday, Honey. My honey bunny. My honey roasted ham. Thank you for choosing me.

Spooky lads lads lads! We met up for a meal, went to see the band Sigh and then we stayed out to watch England vs Norway. Absolute scenes. We were absolutely wankered beyond belief.
