some would say he often acted without thinking, and they would only be half-correct. he would act indeed, whether it seemed unwise to do or not, but he would think as well. sometimes excessively so. agonize over things he had already done and could have done differently. he never preferred inaction, though. that, was something he had always been quite bad at. doing nothing. saying nothing. being nothing.
nothing, would always be worse to him than too much.
did his lover share that sentiment, though ? was he being too much ? was he smothering, scorching ? did he burn more than he warmed ?
and so he was doing it againโthinking, excessively so, and still it would never stop him from acting. how could it, when every fiber of his being was alight with want. the want to have himโthe want to keep him, the want to warm him even as the fear of burning him lingered like smoke.
but fear had never stopped him from acting, either.
such were the thoughts feeding his flames as he dared to approach the harbinger from behind, with catlike stealth & beastlier greed, his arms tight & warm around the slender waist they preyed on. were they too much ?
why did it feel as though nothing could ever be enough ?
... โsoonโ, the dreaded confirmation came then.
he would be leaving soon. he could leave after a thousand years and it would still be unbearably soon to the brazen magician.
he had half a mind to let his arms tighten, let them smother, let them burnโanything to keep his lover a lifetime longer.
his grip loosened instead. his painted lips parting around words that never managed to leave them.
the resentment he could almost taste on his tongue by now was quick to turn to ashes when he faced the harbingerโwhose beauty did not warm, but burn. simply too much for him to bear, too much for him to harbor anything akin to resentment against.
what he did next left lyney wide-eyed and red-cheeked.
"whaโwhat are you doing," he stammered, smile audible despite himself. his hands finding the fiery locks to cradle the other's head despite himself. his heartbeat accelerating despite himself. none of it was too much. none of it was enough.
"if i'd have you ... ?" he echoed, smile intact. running his fingers through the soft strands in a slow rhythmโthey had all the time in the world. no one would be leaving soon enough, not if he had anything to say about it. "you're all i ever wanted to have, my sun. will that make you stay by my side until the end of all days ?" & still it won't be enough.
he looked down to meet the other's gaze, fingers still buried in his hair. and even with the mirth in his lover's tone those words still burned, one of his hands sliding down to the side of his comely face, thumb caressing his cheekbone.
"you will be indeed," he confirmed, despite himself. his almost-cruelty half-playful & half-genuine. as was the suggestion that followed. "so either don't leave, or let me come with you." his hand moved again, fingertips ghosting over his mouth before slowly running down the graceful column of his pale neck. he let his touch linger there, thumb now circling the fluttering pulse he found. his voice was low & quiet when he spoke again. solemn, and chaste in a way the magician never truly was around his harbinger for whom he burned a bit too bright for comfort.
"say the word and you shall never know the cold again."
