Hi! Glad you liked the shot. It was taken from my balcony at the Park-Hotel Sonnenhof (sunset, if I remember correctly). I loved Liechtenstein! I was a little disappointed Schloss Vaduz is closed to visitors but I understand it's a working castle and a private home. Thanks again! x
vielen Dank für die Information! :-D

for my English-speaking followers: the incorrect version of the 81 soldiers story is spreading once again. and an update: by following the links back, I think the reason it's so popular is because it shows up in a Lonely Planet guide! if that's the kind of fact-checking they go in for, I know I'm never using them again.
"World War 1~ In Liechtenstein’s last military engagement in 1866, none of the 80 soldiers sent to invade Italy were injured, and that in fact 81 returned, including a new Italian ‘friend’." SOMEONE HETALIZE THIS HOLY CRAP
Except for the fact that your source is mostly likely lonely planet while actual sources tell a different story?
Yes 80/81 soldiers went off to Italy but it was not an ‘Italian friend’ that they returned with, rather an Austrian solider looking for work. This post which details which source it came from can definitely be trusted considering it was a past ambassador to Liechtenstein that wrote it.
So as cool as it is to have Italy and Liech interacting in this way it would have been Liech and Austria interacting, which is quite common in pre-ww1 Liechtenstein.
Not to mention Italy was the enemy and were only stationed on the border in Tyrol since the Liechtensteiner Prince refused to go against his German brethren in the north side thanks to Bismarck constructing this with his realpolitik agenda.
thanks, friends!
(to be clear, I'm not a past ambassador to Liechtenstein (in case anyone had any doubt) — David Beattie, the author of Liechtenstein: A Modern History is.)
I should maybe note I have some issues with Beattie, especially his attitude towards the monarchy (i.e. basically it seems that in his eyes they can do no wrong), but in this case, his history is accurate.
