Anita and Phoebe had both been dragged into the chaos within the New York Institute for terrible reasons. For one, the death of a loved one, for the other, being turned into something she never asked for.

When Mattie Louvel’s parents were murdered during the Uprising, the young werewolf was placed into the care of the local wolf pack in Queens, New York. She grew up knowing the reasons for her parent’s death. After a number of run in with the law, she got bounced from her wolf pack and from the foster home she lived in. Only 14 years old at the time, she moved around. Mattie gets arrested by werewolf and NYPD detective Luke Garroway. He recognises her last name, he drops the charges against her and takes her under his wing. In an attempt to help her re-adjust to being part of a pack and having friends of her own age, he brings her to a dinner with Jocelyn and her daughter Clay. The three of them, Clary, Simon and Mattie, become fast friends and form an unbreakable group.

When Clary’s 18th birthday rolls around, Mattie of course still being the constant party goer agrees to go to a local club.

The arrogant blonde shadowhunter, manages to tick all the boxes  of the things that Mattie hates the most. But being forced to work together in order to save first Simon, then Luke and then the world, Mattie begins to learn that there’s a thin line between love and hate. And this shadowhunter is blurring the two.

“I still can’t believe you posted that photo.” Simon said as soon as he saw his sister.

“Well, we did lose that bet.”

“Still, do you know how much I’m suffering because of that? Maia and Clary both got it as their phone’s wallpaper.” He looked exasperated.

“That makes three people who have done that.” Phoebe wanted to laugh at Simon’s distress, but couldn’t bring herself to do it when she thought about the other person who had done the exact same thing.

“Wait, who else?”

“Anita.” Simon opened a big smile at that, making Phoebe regret ever telling him about it.

“There is if we’re in the middle of a hunt.” She rolled her eyes, finishing off a demon with a frustrated sigh.

Phoebe didn’t want any of this.

What she wanted was to visit her family while enjoying her college break.

She didn’t want to be dragged by her brother, beaten and slashed open by a fucking wolf.

She didn’t want to learn that her adorable, nerdy brother was actually a vampire now, and that he hadn’t even thought about telling her about it.

She didn’t want to learn that her brother’s best friend was a shadowhunter, she didn’t want to learn that his girlfriend was a werewolf.
