SAGA (pt.1)

I’ve been wanting to do this for a while now because Saga is the best and it’s got such great character designs!

Written by Brian Vaughan and Illustrated by Fiona Staples fantasy/sci-fi  Saga has been one of the best comics in recent memory. For those who haven’t read this at all the entire premise is about how a couple Alana & Marko from two rival/waring planets fall in love and basically have an illegal baby(Hazel) and now everyone is after them and their child. Thus of course they run and scourer the universe to avoid them. Think romeo and Juliet mixed with star wars with some game of thrones thrown in the mix in graphic novel form.

At this point the story we’re following three groups, Alana , Klara,Hazel and Dengo who are doing their best to keep Hazel from getting into the wrong hands on an unnamed frozen planet and have to wrangle with Dengo’s inability to let go of old allies and keep Hazel safe. Meanwhile Marko whose currently split up from Alana and Hazel is traveling with Prince Robot VI, Ghus and Yuma as they squabble and attempt to find their loved ones respectably. While this is happening Gwen, Sophie and the Brand are stilling looking for the seed from a male dragon to find elixir to heal The Will. Not to spoil everything Marko and Alana are reunited in the just as they were both starting to lose it alone, more sacrifices are made people die and it ends up being another emotional and high stakes volume of Saga which only gets more intriguing as it goes a long. The art is beautiful and the more characters are introduced and the more the universe expands the more you never want to stop turning each page.

Each volume of Saga has been  engaging and well worth the time to read. It’s an easy book to get lost. There’s a lot heart in this story of war and family and some beyond good writing from Brian Vaughan. So if you’re into comics/graphic novels and still haven’t given Saga a read…what are you waiting for? Do it.
