You guys... First off I want to apologize if this sounds strange and if the relationship between Kory and the other seems too null... I think that when it comes to TITANS' Blackfire, I can hardly finish a sentence about her because she is still a mystery to me. I find it quite hard to write of her when we barely know her; I hope to master at that once her episode drops, I promise to try. SECOND OFF: I made this without knowing where the plot was going to unfold and this is probably disgusting and poorly written but anyways 𼰠let me see what you think of my midnight dickkory creation.
Pairing: Dickkory / Dick & Kory
Rating: Mature (?) I guess...
The clock spun along to announce the end of a day and begin of another. The loud pound of the clock hands moved clockwise as he marched forward the manor; one at each corner. It almost felt like time was a long-time nemesis of Bruce Wayne.
The noise coming from the various devices were the only thing trespassing the dimly lit room; after the mournful event days before, the team decided to give themselves permission to grieve.
Gotham needed them, principally now without Batman. The city needed protectors, guardians... heroes. No matter how broken they were.
Their last mission was quite rough; bloody hands and open wounds as per usual, but this time with an addition to the team.
They hadn't discussed broadly concerning her, though. He heard Kory shouting at her earlier on that day in a heated debate through a language his tongue hadn't yet known, and then all he saw was heat and fire eminating from her eyes.
Flames blistered in wrath through green pupils.
After the incident, Conner convinced Blackfire to leave the manor for awhile; visit new places and try new foodâanything to lead her out of the house and away from her oldest, extremely angry sibling.
When Garfield tried to reach out to a still hesitant, confused Koriand'r, all she did was to smooth her wrinkled clothes and leave... but not before giving them both a deep look in the eyes. Dick absorved anger, loss and many insecurities he's never once looked at in deep greens. The ambiguity made a knot in his stomach.
But he decided he would not leave again without an answer. At least one, for once.
His footsteps were as low as could be when he was at her door; one, two, three knocks before the door gave in.
He had then full entrance to her chambers. She was nowhere to be seeing at his sightâher door was unlocked and he could still smell the sweet of her bodywash and perfume combined; Kory smelled of strawberry and candies. The sweetest ones, the kind that would also be slightly sour.
Before he could question her absence, she emerged from the small bathroom of her room, wearing a black, purple sparkly dress she had semi-dressed and whose front was dangling from her tummy.
Her first instinct was to cover her breasts WITH both hands, even though she already had her bra put. And his, in the other hand, was to turn around to look at the wall in the other corner of the room.
"I... um..." He tries to formulate as his mind tries to cope with everything he's just seen.
"I'm sorry for breaking into your room like this. It was unnapropriate, I apologize."
Kory humms and grabs a pair of golden hoops from her nightstand. "I take the apology... even though the door was not locked and there is nothing beneath these fabrics you hadn't seen before."
"The fact that I have seen you naked before does not mean I still am allowed to, and this was not my firstâ"
"Yes I know, and I am not jumping into any conclusions. May I ask you why are you here?"
"Can I turn around?" he asks.
And as once his eyes encounters with hers again, it feels like he was set to fire. His heart beats at a thunderous pace.
She's only gotten prettier in each passing day.
Her dress was still unfastened, but her chest was now covered by the glittery fabric. She worn her tamaranean jewelry and the pair of hoops Garfield got her in their last trip to the mall. Every detail, every spark, even corner fit her so perfectly... his mind drew nothing but the vision of him pinning her to the wall and smudging her lipstick, bringing the dark burgundy color to each inch of her neck and below...
He took an erratic breath and fuck! could he be any more stupid?
She probably noticed his reverie by virtue of his lack of response to her summons.
He twitched and cleared his throat. "The reason why I came here was, well... Whatever happened between you and your sister earlier."
She flopped and turned around, staring at her own very figure in the mirror as if she hadn't heard.
"Do you want to talk about it?"
She inhaled. "No, Grayson. I'd rather not talk about it now."
He didn't want to push her buttons, but by the time they had Red Hood come to them at any moment, they should avoid team divergences as much as possibly they could.
Kory rolled her eyes and bit her lip.
He could hear loud breath from the other side of the room. He didn't want it to frustrate him as much as he did.
He was trying to hold it all back, he truly was, but Kory went from the mysteriously perilous woman that he met to a stubborn indecipherable puzzle piece.
She did await for him to open up, she had the patience to him that no one has ever offered before, but the thought that her secrets could get her trapped in the end was swallowing him whole.
But instead of speaking furtherer, he simply mouthed:
"I think I will just leave."
And once his hand grabbed the door knob, he heard her say:
He turned back again and crossed his armsâno judment, no side-eyed glance. All he did was to wait.
"I didn't mean to hurt them.
Gar, Conner... I would never hurt them. My sister and I have a... difficult relationship. You see, I can only tell you my side of the story but it's pretty much miserable. I don't think I want to pour it on you just like that."
He shook his head. "You don't have to be ashamed or afraid of telling me anything. I am nowhere to judge, specially you."
"I wish it was this easy," she said as she sat in the corner of her bed, encouraging him to do the same. "talking hasn't done much to me nowadays so I just..."
"Sort of. Keeping things is also a way of healing. An awful, selfish way of healing but it is."
"But it is also bitter; like tasting ferrous blood in the back of your tongue."
"The analogy is precise." She said through a weak smile, and then realized Dick had wandered to places like the ones her mind visited. Dark places.
The thought of that made her heart sink.
What happened? She was doing great at maintaining her steel armor and strong façade.
She only gave in to one teardrop and quickly lifted from the bed, avoiding his gaze. "Yes. Yes, I agree and you are right but I should probably get going." Kory smooths the hem of her dress once again.
He stares at the nightstand watch that marked ten past eleven.
Where could she possibly be going?
"Are you going somewhere?" He asks, even though the term "get going" made it an explicit fact.
"Oh yeah! I have a date," and for the first time in that night he saw a sparkle on joy in her eyes.
"Oh... Um, and who's the lucky one?"
Certainly not him, he thought.
Kory smirked. "Justin. He's just a friend I met a few months ago. He's a therapist."
And then they were back to the awkward smiles, mouth twists and nervous stares.
"So... I should probably check on the boys and see if Conner and your... Blackfire, arrived."
She nods and bites her bottom lip, turning around anew. Before she can open her mouth to start off the sentence, Dick had already advanced behind her.
"Would you like if..." He inquired, slightly pulling the zipper of her dress.
As soon as the words left her mouth, she felt his cold, caloused thumb in the nude part of her dress and his other hand worked swiftly at zipping her up. She gasped.
And at the moment she noticed she did, her glance hit the surface of the middle.
His eyes bore into her back.
He traced the length of her back with his fingertips and the sensation made her insides twist.
Both his arms traced the covered skin of her arms before leaving her alone completely.
And just like that, at twenty seven past eleven, he left.
