Age of Youth 2 Fanfiction. Only focusing on Jiwon-Sungmin storyline, with a goal to seek: A kiss
Part 1 is in here,
The ride home is too silent for the two chatty friends. Sungmin is on silent mode, and Jiwon can’t mustered up the courage to say anything. Sungmin’s confession still in her mind but she can’t understand how it happens. Sungmin never flirts to her, never shows his affection. She is the one who keep teasing him and she always gets punished for that. It seems like he almost hates her. Well hate is a strong word. He does stay for her antics and helps her. Is it the way he shows his feeling? It’s weird. Doesn’t look like the romance she watches on movies. Doesn’t look like the porn with stupid role playing that she ‘happens’ to take a peek. Porn! Does he not love her in sexual way? Ugh, what with this man?!
Sungmin : We are arrived.
Jiwon : Eung.
Sungmin reaches to her safety belt, where Jiwon’s hand already placed.
Jiwon : What do you do?
Sungmin : Safety belt, I.. ah sorry.
They have touched each other’s hand for so many times, even go as far to act as a couple in a massage parlor. Everything always felt so natural. Nothing as awkward as this accidental hand holding. Jiwon looks away and opens the door.
Sungmin : Jiwon-ah. Forget about everything that I said today. You should focus on the case. I was wrong.
Jiwon can not wrap up her mind. He was wrong? What did he do wrong? The only wrong thing that he did today is to ask her to forget it. This guy is crazy. Jiwon gets out of his car.
.....
Jiwon’s mind is focused on the articles on the Criminal Code book which she borrows from the library today. It’s really hard to understand, Jiwon regrets not taking a law major for her own good. As she writes down notes, she hears men shouting outside of Belle Epoque. She runs toward the windows. Only then she realizes that the sun is already set. She finds two men fighting. Jiwon recognizes the big guy as Mun Hyojin’s lover. The other is Sungmin. Does he stay the whole time after taking her home this afternoon or does he come back? It’s weird either one. More importantly, what the hell does he do now? Jiwon runs outside, to beg sorry in place for Sungmin.
Hyojin’s boy : No mwoya? Do you hire this guy to guard here?
Jiwon : No No No. I am sorry, please let him go.
Hyojin’s boy : He didn’t allow me to go in.
Jiwon : Ya! Im Sungmin, go apologize.
Sungmin : What did I do? He will hurt you again.
Jiwon : No, he won’t.
Hyojin’s boy : Who said that? I haven’t cross you off the enemy list yet.
Jiwon plops down in her knee and pledge for both of their lives.
Jiwon : I remember it. Third grade. I remember it. Please let him go, I will tell you.
Hyojin’s boyfriend does as she ask. Although it looks more like he throws him away, but he really lets him go.
Hyojin’s boy : What? What happen?
Jiwon : Pretty shoes. It’s all started with pretty shoes. Hyojin always wore pretty shoes to school. We were friends. Mun Hyojin and I. We looked out each other. One day, we were playing in the school yard when our teacher asked for Hyojin. I was left in the yard. I was running around the field completely unaware about what happen to Hyojin. Until I saw her pretty shoes the flowerbed. I put them on. I always wanted to put them on. Then I looked back to the art room which was in located in front of the flowerbed. Then I saw…. I saw Hyojin. And the art teacher. He was drawing her naked. She was naked. He was naked. Then I scream. I run and scream about it. People apparently found them. Hyojin left the school afterwards, along with the teacher. My memory about them completely erased. It’s not until long ago that I remember Hyojin’s again. I am sorry.
Hyojin’s boy : So the one who destroyed Hyojin’s life is the art teacher, and not you?
Jiwon nods. Hyojin’s boyfriend looks the sincerity in her eyes and goes. Before he leaves far, he murmurs his apology. Jiwon catches his hands, and tells him about the plan she had in order to protect Hyojin’s dignity. He nods in agreement, and goes back to his place. Jiwon looks back to Sungmin.
Sungmin : Is that why you need all those law books?
Jiwon : Yes.
Sungmin : Are you okay?
Jiwon : Of course. You are the one who bleeds.
Sungmin : Nothing goes right for me ever since I met you.
Jiwon : Sorry, Wait here.
Jiwon goes for an ointment in her room. When she is back, Sungmin is already sitting on the bench outside Belle Epoque. She takes the seat beside him, and starts to treat his wound. She thinks that she owes him that much.
Sungmin : Stop it.
Jiwon : Why? Does it hurt?
Sungmin : No, I think I might kiss you.
Jiwon : What?
Sungmin : I told you I love you.
Jiwon : But…
Sungmin : I know with everything that happens I should not be doing this. But look at me, I don’t even know why I come here again. I think I just wanna see you.
Jiwon : Sungmin-ah.
Sungmin : I know. Mianhae, I cannot hold back. That’s why you should be the brake. Sit little further there!
Jiwon doesn’t budge, she just stares at him, pouting. So Sungmin sits a step away from her.
Jiwon : Sungmin-ah.
Sungmin : Yes?
Jiwon : Will you accompany me to the court later? I think I will need you there.
Sungmin : Eung.
Jiwon : You will do that for me?
Sungmin : Yes.
They become quiet. Jiwon still doesn’t looks away from Sungmin. Meanwhile Sungmin must be think that his jeans are so fascinating that he focuses on them only.
Jiwon : Sungmin-ah thank you.
Sungmin : Don’t mention it.
Jiwon : But I still want to say it. Thank you for being my friend Sungmin-ah. I...
Sungmin : I’m going. I got punch today, I don’t think I can hear rejection too. I get enough for today. I’ll see you in the court.
Jiwon can not say anything but to let him go.
.....
Jiwon can’t believe it. She wins the cold case she opened for Hyojin. Hyojin’s memory is preserved. She hugs Sungmin right after the judges announces the verdict. It makes the man shrink. Jiwon is smiling for the cuteness. She thought she couldn’t be happier, but Sungmin proves her wrong.
Jiwon : Sungmin-ah, kaja.
Sungmin : Home?
Jiwon : Yes, I am so tired. I think I haven’t sleep for three days.
Sungmin : Ya! Even if this case is so important, you should take care of your health too. Let’s go. I’ll take you home.
Jiwon sees him takes care of her belongings. He is doing it very naturally, that she wonders if they have been couple all of this time. She takes his hand and clutches him.
Sungmin : Eh?
Jiwon : Can’t I?
Sungmin : You can.
They both goes out of the building, smiling. No one says a word, so Jiwon hums to a lovely song. Unknowingly Sungmin hums to the same song at the same time. They laughed like mad kids till they get to the car. Sungmin opens passenger door for Jiwon and takes a step back to her. She keeps holding his hands. Sungmin looks at his hand on hers, and asks:
Sungmin : Is this mean that I am not rejected?
Jiwon : Who told you that you are rejected?
She lets go off his hand and ducks inside of the car. Sungmin closes the door, and gets in the car shortly after, still grinning ear to ear.
Sungmin : So… what are we now?
Jiwon : What are we? We are Song Jiwon and Im Sungmin!
Sungmin : No I mean our relationship status. What are we?
Jiwon : Ssongsungmin. Ssong from Song…
Sungmin : I got it jeez. I mean…
Jiwon : Do you need me to spell it for you? Are you a choding?
Sungmin : Ani but. Ah…
Jiwon : Aigoo I am dating a choding. This feels so wrong.
Sungmin : Ha! You said dating.
Jiwon : Yes, jagiya. We are dating, yeobo. Honey boo boo.
Sungmin : Ah gemanhae.
Jiwon : Wae? It was fun though.
Sungmin : You’re back.
Jiwon : What?
Sungmin : Ssong Jiwon Dorawatda! (with the same tone that Jiwon use to say Song Jiwon Yeoja Dwaeda = Song Jiwon becomes a woman in ep 3).
They laugh heartily.
Sungmin : We are arrived.
Jiwon : Ah finally!
She reaches her safety belt, ready to take it off, but Sungmin snaps.
Sungmin : Yah, let me open it for you.
Jiwon : Sungmin-ah, wae keurae? I can open it myself.
Sungmin : But I am here for you.
Sungmin takes her hand and leaned to her face. He reached for a kiss, but suddenly a ‘noona’ is shouted from Belle Epogue direction. It’s Seo Janghoon. The man who looks like he needs another twirl at his neck. Sungmin hates him.
Janghoon : Jiwon noona, what are you doing? Everyone is waiting for you. How was the court?
Jiwon : Oh keurae? Okay, I’m coming. Sungmin-ah, thanks. I’ll see you tomorrow at campus okay?
Sungmin : Okay.
.....
The next day is a beautiful day. Jinmyung Sunbae is already on her way to the office when Jiwon opens Belle Epoque door for the first time today. The sun is shining warmly to her face. She is ready to face a new day. She said her ‘hello’ to Janghoon who is as usual, diligently toning up his muscles. Her eyes pops when she sees Sungmin’s car is parked outside Belle Epoque.
Jiwon : Ya, mwohae?
Sungmin : Waiting for you
Jiwon : Ya…
Yeeun : Wah whose car is this?
Eunjae : Are we taking car to the campus today?
Jiwon smiles, and Sungmin sighs.
.....
As they arrived at campus, Sungmin is finally left alone with Jiwon because the other two girls have different faculty to go to. They walk down the beautiful park to their faculty.
Jiwon : Haha, Sungmin-ah, why did you even come to our home? I told you that I’ll meet you at campus today.
Sungmin : Haaah…
Jiwon : Wae?
Sungmin : Don’t talk about it.
Jiwon : Wah, Is it raining? The sun betrays me. Ugh.
Jiwon takes out her big biggest book from her bag. She puts it on top of her head, uses it as a shield against the rain. However, Sungmin looks at her in disbelief.
Sungmin : Ya, Put that down. How can you use a book as umbrella?!
Jiwon : Do you have umbrella?
Sungmin : No.
Jiwon : Then this book is alright. As long as I don’t get wet.
Sungmin : But I am right here. If you keep doing things alone, what that makes me?
Sungmin opens the zipper of his jacket, and takes it off. He uses it to shield Jiwon from the rain.
Sungmin : Your boyfriend is beside you. I can undo your safety belt, I can open any door for you, I can shield you from rain. Kaja, we need to take a shelter on that tree.
Jiwon smiles at his sentence. As they walk to the tree, she remembers how much of help Sungmin has be. He is grumpy, but he is always there for her. She didn’t know it at first, but she really loves him. She can share her most private thought to him. Sometimes she is even more open to him than to the girls. She is thankful that her boyfriend is her best friend. She can be herself, and he will still love her. As they reach the tree, Sungmin takes the jacket off of their heads. She sees how gorgeous his face is. She tiptoes and kisses him. She really likes him, and she shows him how she feels about him. She is never the type of person who gets embarrassed over this. Although now as she sees Sungmin’s reddish cheeks, she remembers that Sungmin is that kind of person.
Sungmin : Ya we are at campus.
Jiwon : Wae? Nobody sees us. It’s raining, people are minding their own business. Look around.
Sungmin : Keurae? Then one more…
He makes a sudden move to lean in and cup her face. He planted the not-so-gently kiss. Jiwon feels helplessness, as she melts under Sungmin’s charm. The kiss is passionate. It’s so hot that Jiwon forgets the fact that they are under the rain right now. This is the best kiss that she has, not that she has so many great kisses considering the fact that she lives her life as a virgin so far. His lips is felt so right, so tender brushing her own lips. When his tongue slids inside Jiwon’s mouth, she feels esthetic, jolt of happiness as if fireworks emerges from her body. Jiwon kisses him back and pulls Sungmin closer as her heart explodes. She loves him so much. She has the urge to tell him something. She then pushes his face, but still grabbing his collar, not so ready to break free from him.
Jiwon : Sungmin-ah.
Sungmin groans, seems like the kiss was not just for her.
Jiwon : Sungmin-ah, let’s go to motel, yes?
Sungmin : Ya!
Jiwon : You don’t want to go to motel with me?
Sungmin scratches his neck, and looks at the ground as he answers.

I made this fanfic while waiting for Ep 13 and ep 14. I only have 1 goal to seek, which is the SSongSungmin’s kiss. Thats why this fanfic is only focusing on them, and only touched Mun Hyojin’s case lightly. From the preview that they shared, my mind is connecting the dots with this fanfic. Now after ep 13-14 are aired, I realised that I was wrong. However I am still glad that I made this fanfic, cos this the closest to kiss scene that I get from Ssongsungmin. They only kiss in my mind, in our minds. So sad. Anyway, I hope you like my fanfic.
Ep 13 Preview :
Jiwon opens the fifth document about child abuse in the club room. She is going to confront her ex-teacher for Mun Hyojin’s case in the court. She feels the need to study about everything, preparing ammunition for the battle. Her best friend Sungmin sits beside her. He had done enough to help her, from accompanying her to track her lost memory, to helping her find some books in library today. His presence is very much needed. She needs him to encourage her doing the right thing. She needs him to protect her. She needs him. Period. Maybe after all of this done, she will treat him some soju.
Just when she is about to reach for the next page, the door is opened. It was her friends who open it. They, just like her were ex-members of the club. Though it doesn’t stop them from entering the club room, just like it doesn’t stop her entering it eventhough Sungmin the club leader didn’t allow it (at first, but of course it can be solved with some aegyo).
Friend 1 : Ya! Song Jiwon, You got prettier!
Friend 2 : I almost can’t recognize you. You really suited straight hair.
Jiwon : Thank you.
Friend 1 : Ya! You’re busy? I can’t reach your phone.
Jiwon : A little, I got something to do. Sorry.
Friend 1 : Ah, ottoke, we actually got a good news for you.
Jiwon : What is it?
Friend 1 : Blind Date!
Friend 2 : With medical students. It’s three on three blind date, so we need you!
Friend 1 : Yeah, you’re going right?
Friend 2 : Of course she is going? Ya, you are still ‘that’ right? Come on, come to blind date with us. We even come here to find you. Ya, how long has it’s been since we last visited this room?
Friend 1 : Yah! It’s not that long. But you still have to come! Keuchi?
Jiwon : Ehm…
Friend 1 : It won’t be the same without the great Song Jiwon. Let’s go!
Friend 2 : Let’s go fast, they are waiting for us.
Jiwon : Eh is it today?
Friend 2 : It’s today, I tried to contact you since last week. Come on.
Friend 1 : Yes, fast. No time to tidy up. Im Sungmin, we’ll leave it for you.
Friend 2 : Yah, andwae. He is the leader of this club now, we can’t ordered him around. Hey you (she is calling one of their hoobae), you can clean this up right? Just put all the books in the corner for Jiwon later. Ya! Kaja!
Then the two of them drag Jiwon out of the room. Sungmin stares to their backs. Everything happens too fast for him. With those two girls talk as if they are rapping, he could not say anything back. He just slumps to his chair, stunned. It is a rare moment for the hoobae in question to see him looking pathetic.
Hoobae : Hyung, You like Jiwon sunbae right?
Sungmin : Eh?
Hoobae : You just let her go for the the blind date?
There goes Sungmin. He runs as if a monster chases him. Luckily those girls don’t walk as fast as they are speaking. He taps Jiwon’s shoulder as soon as he catches them. As Jiwon faces towards him, he loses word. The girls look at him curiously. He gathers up his courage.
Friend 1 : Im Sungmin, why?
Friend 2 : We are busy, say it fast.
Jiwon : What’s wrong Sungmin-ah?
Sungmin : You can’t go to blind date.
Friend 1 : What?
Friend 2 : Are you two dating? You’re acting like you are her boyfriend.
Sungmin : We will. So she can’t go to the blind date.
Friend 1 : What?
Friend 2 : Seriously?
Friend 1 : Haha, you two are fighting all the time, was it love quarrel?
Friend 2 : Seriously seriously?
Friend 1 : Yah, Kaja, we are lost. Goodbye Jiwon-ah. Congrats you two.
Jiwon stares at him. She couldn’t believe the whole things that just happened. She looks into his eyes. She finds him hiding his grin. He then looks away. Perhaps he is embarrassed. By the way, what? He said they will date? Has he gone mad?
Jiwon : Sungmin-ah.
Sungmin : Mian.
Jiwon : Sungmin-ah, we need to talk.
Sungmin : Why do you have to go to blind dates? You told me that all the guy you met never give a call after the blind date. Why do you keep going to blind dates? You can find men everywhere. Beside, you got more important things to do.
Jiwon : Eung, keure.
Maybe Sungmin hasn’t gone completely crazy. It’s all just her imagination. So she heads back to the club, with her best friend beside her.
Sungmin : I am a man too.
Jiwon : Eung?
Sungmin : I am a man too. If you wanna date, you can date me. No problem with me.
Jiwon : Eung?
Jiwon was about to open the door when he said it. She isn’t too sure about how to process things. She stops her movement and faces Sungmin. Then she hears uproars from inside. All the hoobaes are clapping their hands in festive mode. Well, almost all only excluding the pretty hoobae who likes Sungmin for herself. Clasping their hands, they said congratulation on finally dating. Umm what?
She finds that Sungmin is really good at pretending. She sees him smiling through all of this confusion, even acts sweet towards her. He then raises his voice, and announces to the crowd that they were only coming back for the documents she left. He says that they needed to go, just the two of them. Isn’t the real Sungmin hate rumour about him and her?
Sungmin : Kaja.
Jiwon : What is this Sungmin-ah?
Sungmin : ....
Jiwon : Wae?
Sungmin only answers her when they are outside of the building.
Sungmin : Augh, you still don’t know?
Jiwon : What is it?
Sungmin stops his step and looks into her eyes.
Sungmin : I like you.
Jiwon : WHAT?
Sungmin : I don’t know when it started but it happens. I like you. I like you when your hair is straight or wavy. I like you when you are wearing skirt or pants. I like you when you are acting sexy or cute. I like you even if you are not normal. To me you are perfect. I like you, I’m going crazy about you. I love you.
Jiwon : Ya, Sungmin-ah...
Sungmin : I know. I know you only see me as a friend. I was okay with it. I know you are having a hard time lately. I wasn’t going to say anything until you decided to go blind dating.
Jiwon : Ya, I was not!
Sungmin : I know. I am sorry. I thought I can keep this thought only for myself. But look, even our hoobaes know about us. They can sense my feeling. I think I couldn’t keep this only to myself. I have to tell you.
Jiwon : Sungmin-ah
Sungmin : Don’t worry, you don’t need to answer this now. I understand your situation.
Jiwon : I …
Sungmin : Don’t worry, Dont think about me. Let’s go, get you home. I think the club room isn’t a perfect place for you to study the case now.
Trying to make use of my (limited) Korean skill and the beauty of online translator to translated the character description of the Boys of Age of Youth 2.
I was right. Ryuja is useful for me. It helps me find my second love. Well, sort of.
After discovering Ryuja, I did a research about the magical fruit. I spent my summer writing to both of my Herbology professors, Neville Longbottom and Ra Miran. They told me that I was the first wizard who succeed to get its fruit. There was only a little knowledge about Ryuja at that time, so I was advised to conduct my own Ryuja research. After seeing how it affected my father, I concluded that Ryuja is good to prevent aging. I wrote a journal about Ryuja effect to my father in full detail. With the help of my teachers, I was able to publish it.
That journal gave me an invitation to The International Union of Wizarding Herbology Convention in London. Mr. Longbottom was in charge to bring my family and I to London. He got us a portkey which was not our preferred transportation mode. We did not get to do London sight-seeing after we arrived. My family spent the day by staying in our hotel room trying to recover from the awful “jetlag” from our Seoul to London 5 minutes trip. The next day was the Convention Day, they looked happy when I told them I got the title Youngest Wizard Herbologist. I am not sure that they understand what that means though.
We stayed in London and had pretty decent vacation until the school started. On first September, Mr. Longbottom accompanied us to go to King’s Cross Station. Again, the look in my family showed how scared they were to see so many wizarding things happening around them. Ryuja and Portkey definitely destroyed their mentality. They were going back to Seoul after the Hogwarts Express departed, and they looked dejected seeing what Mr. Longbottom had brought them. Well, it was another portkey in a form of a worn pants. Nevertheless, my mum still managed to smile and said her thank-yous to Mr. Longbottom, in Korean. Then, I met this girl, the girl who now is sitting in front of me and breaking my heart.
She was different from Deoksun. She was much more reserved girl than Deoksun. Lala Glismoda is a little princess whose shy smile calmed my heart. She has brown hair and high nose with some freckles on it. She was as cute as a button. She seemed like pure blood, judging by the fact both of her parents look bored with the situation in King’s Cross station, unlike my family whose heads busy looking at the strange things happened in wizardry world. They must be an old wizarding family too, seeing that their house-elf took care of their possessions. I was told that house-elves were owned only by the rich and old wizarding family.
The cute house-elf master made me unconsciously smiled at her. Our eyes met, she then talked to her parents. I thought she might be telling them about how creepy I was, but the smile on her mum told something different. Couple of minutes after, her mother introduced herself and her daughter to Mr. Longbottom. She told us that Lala Glismoda is a polystoma, a word I thought only I did not know. However, it seemed like Mr. Longbottom did not know about it either. He asked Mrs. Glismoda, who screamingly answered, “MY DAUGHER HAS THE ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND ANY LANGUAGE. SHE IS A POLYSTOMA”. Seemed like she was happy to be given the opportunity to finally released her scream.
Lala Glismoda translated my family words to Mr. Longbottom. I used the opportunity to take much more observation of her. Seeing her up close made me realize how beautiful she was. Her brown wavy hair is delicate up close. She reeked a pleasant smell of wild roses, which gave the impression of strong and elegant young lady. I looked at her thin lips when she talked, and noticed that she has the same lips as her mother, and almost identical eyes. Her eyes were big sparkling brown eyes. We talked a bit until it was time for Hogwarts Express to depart. Jack Thorne blew my chance to sit next to her by dragging me to his compartment.
In the opening ceremony, I prayed hard to all gods in the world to put her in the same house as mine. I am not very religious person, but I believe that God is always kind to all who seek help. I was right. God helped me. She was sorted into Ravenclaw, my house. Was that a fate talking to us? I patted her head, trying to get close to her. She did not smile. I did not waver. She was worth the fight.
During school time, I used my best charm to get to know her. Using the foreigner card, I asked her to translate this and that to me. Her mom is really helpful on this. She was really shy though, which got me confused. I am not used to someone who does not talk a lot. You see, I only have one friend who does not talk much. He was Choi Taek, I care for him but I really do not mind if he does not talk. Dongryong and Deoksun used up all of Taek’s portion to speak anyway. However, it was different with Lala. I want her to talk a lot. She has crispy voice which I love to hear. I want to know her story. She talks and smiles a lot in front of her twin friends, making me all jealous. I want to see her smile more often.
I talk a lot to her, unwittingly making her friends to refers me as “Je Suho the Magpie”. My mom who keep asking me to talk more would be wierded out by the nickname. I talk about everything to her, school subjects, her pet owl, quidditch, or the weather. Once, I even read Witch Weekly to get topics to discuss with her. Too bad, she did not really care about those artists, although I found out that she likes the legend of rock n roll, the Weird Sisters.
I talk to her about my Ryuja research too. She was very supportive on that. Prof. Ra gave me a big present this semester after I failed to make Ryuja anti-aging cream for the n-th time. Prof. Ra suggested me to make a group for my Ryuja anti-aging cream research. I could only think of her to be the member. She was smart enough to be put in any research team, and I was sure her polystoma ability would be useful. I put Jack in my group so my motive could not be read too easily. Then Prof. Ra added Vanyah Krum and Oni Sanguini to the group.
I thought everything would be perfect for us two, until I saw her tears today. I have no idea of why she cried. I saw Gryffindor team passing by before she broke to tears. I thought it had something to do with the fact that her twin friend lost the Quidditch Cup last year to them. She never showed that much interest for Quidditch but it might be the reason, right?
It would be better if she was really cried for Quidditch. Well, anything would be better than the reason she told me now. Lala Glismoda had told her story, a story of her first love. With James Potter. I could not believe it. The whole time I was watching her and Potter the babo[1], I feel nothing between them, nothing to be afraid off. This is Deoksun and Taek all over again. They only look like brother and sister to me and any other sane person, never romantic. Why did I fall for the same hole again? My head is buzzing. Mwoya ige? Nega ottohke?[2]

Doksun could not help being excited about today. Yesterday Kim Junghwan had finally confessed to her. He said he loved her! She was so happy that her love story did not end like those sad one-sided love stories. They agreed to be an official boyfriend and girlfriend. Doksun had used her position as “the girlfriend” to ask him for a date. Last night she was all smitten imagining about all possible dates they would do. Would it be café date or movie date? She would find out in three more hours.
She was in shock when she saw her reflection in the mirror. There are two new acnes in her face. Not to mention that the result of giggling the whole night instead of sleeping had coming to her eye bag. She looked like a panda with acnes, definitely not a cute sight. What Junghwan might say about her disastrous face scared her. ‘Surely, he would not ask for a breakup, right?’ Doksun prayed he would not, but she washed herself extra clean just to rest assured.
After bath, she prepared some dosiraks. She wanted to romantically seduce Junghwan with her food. Her brother and dad could not stop sniffing to her food, and she took it as compliment. She hummed to their question regarding her destionation, did not answer any of it. Afterward, she spent an hour doing her make up until finally admitting her defeat. She could not cover the acnes. With unsteady step, she walked herself out of her house. She was about to step in Junghwan’s stairs when Junghwan opened the blue gate from outside and yelled to her.
‘Ya! Get out quickly. Geez, how many hours I had to wait for you? I’m freezing. Did you wake up late? Ugh. I can’t believe you. Come quick!
Smiling, Doksun run to her boyfriend. Acnes and panda eyes was forgotten when she saw him. Junghwan’s handsome look distracted her. He was always handsome as long as Doksun remembered, but that day his fashion complemented his look even better. He wore a blue checkered shirt matched with black pants and NB shoes. A nice black watch encircled his wrist. He had used gel to style his hair, making his face sexier. Doksun could not believe her luck that the handsome young man picked her as his girlfriend.
They walked side by side and Junghwan told her that they would to Nami Island. Doksun said Nami Island was nothing compared to Jeju Island. However, her head was thinking differently. She thought that anything would be perfect if Junghwan was the one who choose it. She was happy that Junghwan had picked Nami Island for their first date. It showed how unpredictable he was. Nami Island date is much more romantic than a movie date or a café date. They could spend their night together too. Ha! She was blushing, ‘this guy is a beast’, she thought.
They went to Nami Island with a ferry. They did not talk much on the way. Doksun spent her time watching Junghwan’s eyes looking at the sea. His gaze captivated her heart. ‘Is it the same way he looked into the sky when he fly his jet?’ She really would love to know. She dozed off about spending a time together in a cockpit until they arrived at the dock.
They were welcomed by rows of trees. Autumn had turned the leaves into magical yellow which created an attractive view for them. Doksun smiled happily, the half-moon shaped island was as beautiful as ever. Doksun jumped off the ferry, belatedly realized that two girls near her had their boyfriends to help them getting off. Although Junghwan like always, did not seem to care. ‘Well, the date had just began, I would have more opportunities later’ her optimistic thought told her.
Doksun run to the ticket office as immediately as her foot stepping on the land. She did not seem to learn from the past mistake. Most couples took pictures in front of the gate. Junghwan was at the back, grumbling his way to her. He brought his camera along for the occasion, but Doksun had already lined up for the ticket. Nevertheless, she looked happy when Junghwan finally joined her. Her smile was contagious, Junghwan finally smiled back.
The date run smoothly. Junghwan was busy taking pictures of the sceneries. They found few animals in the nature of Nami Island. Doksun imitated a rabbit’s jump to Junghwan’s laugh. In the lunch time, she opened her dosirak proudly. Only then, she found out the real taste of her food. It was unexpectedly bad. She had no idea why her father and brother sniffed to them before. After mocking her, Junghwan bought them another lunch much to her displeased. In her imaginary world, Junghwan would eat anyting she made. Then it went worse.
They bickered about everything. Doksun thought the meal was salty, but Junghwan only supported her claim by eating her part. When Doksun fell off after chasing a butterfly, he did not run to save her. He laughed at it and took her embarrassing picture. It was the only picture of her that he took from their first date. She tried to use her incident to get Junghwan’s attention but failed. Junghwan said that there was a big chance that she faked this incident too. Doksun just stomped her feet in anger.
Despite her high hopes, Doksun did not get any romantic action from Junghwan. There was nothing wrong with the beautiful Nami Island. They were surrounded by couples in lovey dovey mode there. It was Junghwan. Nami Island was a romantic, but Junghwan was not. By the end of the day, Junghwan was ready to leave Nami Island. Doksun exploded before they reached the dock.
“YA! We are going home now?” she hit his arm.
“Ack, Why are you hitting me?”
“You are the worst boyfriend ever. You did not eat the food that I made. You made a joke about it. Do you know that I put real effort for that one? You… You didn’t even help me when I fell. Can you be a little nicer to me? I am your girlfriend.”
“Ya, Doksun-ah…”
“Look at them.” Doksun pointed to the couple next to them. “Or them, or them, or them.”
“Doksun-ah”
“I anticipated this date so much. I could not sleep at all last night, but what did I get now? You’re just mocking me as far as I remember.”
“Ya, but we had a fun.”
“What’s so fun about this? You’re only taking care of your camera. You chose your camera over your girlfriend. We did nothing so far, and now you want to go home.”
“Well, I just don’t want to miss the last ferry. We already saw everything, I thought we should go home. What else do you want to do?”
“You really are clueless, aren’t you?!”
“What?”
“Well, I don’t know.” Doksun left Junghwan.
In her fifth step, Junghwan realized his mistake and started to chase her. He held her hands and said sorry for couple times. He put his puppy eyes to get Doksun’s mercy.
“Doksun-ah, mianhae. I had no idea that you’re not enjoying this. I am so sorry.”
“You should have realized it earlier.”
“Yeah, I know, I am sorry okay? I just don’t know how to be a good boyfriend to you. Well, you and I finally being a couple? It kinda awkward for me. I thought you would feel awkward too, that’s why I am trying to act as usual. I was wrong. I am sorry. It’s just hard for me to express myself.”
“Well it’s hurt me that you act nonchalant when I did not even sleep last night.”
“I did not sleep last night too. I was busy planning about this whole date. I wanted to go to the cinema, but there is not good movie nowadays. I asked Hyung to recommend me nice café. But there was no café special enough for you. I did not think about Nami Island until one hour before meeting you. I anticipated about the date too Doksun-ah.”
That statement put a smile in Doksun’s face. She was not alone in this relationship. She had Junghwan with her. He tried hard to make up his mistake. He even braved himself to eat Doksun’s dosirak. Doksun kept giggling like fool when he said the food was tasty. After he finished all the meal, he held Doksun’s hand leading her to the dock. They went home smiling. It was the best first date for them.
Author note: I wrote a byeontae-er version of this part too. The last paragraph was my attempt to make it PG rated. I wanted to post byeontae version some other time, but I should probably not. I hope you are satisfied with this version. Thanks for reading Pink Shirt and Pink Diamond Ring even 6 months after it ended. Btw, I actually made this fanfic long time ago, but only releasing it now. Thanks anyway.
Deoksun-ah. I was going to give this to you when I graduated this year. I’m only giving it to you now. I like you. I said I like you. Hey, do you know what have I done because of you? I waited over an hour by our front door every day to go to school with you. Until you came home from the study room, I was so worried that I couldn’t get a wink of sleep. “Why is she so late?” “Did she fall asleep again?” Hey. My mind was only on you. You. When we ran into each other accidentally on the bus… and when we went to the concert together… Also, on my birthday when I got the shirt as a present from you…. I was really so happy that I thought I was going to go crazy. I wanted to see you more than a dozen times a day. I was happy just to see you. I wanted to say this since a long time ago. I really like you. I love you.
***
Like a broken record, Doksun repeated Junghwan’s voice in her head. Two hours ago, in a café Junghwan had told her that he liked her. He gave her a ring with a big pink diamond, right before Sunwoo and Dongryong’s eyes. The ring was not pretty, but it had deep meaning. It was known as the fiancée ring. Every military man got the ring after graduation, and as a tradition they would propose to their lover using that ring.
Junghwan’s ring came with a beautiful confession. Each word made Doksun’s hearts flutter. She was so happy, she did not know how to respond especially in front of her two friends. However, it turned out that she did not need to respond at all. In the end of his confession, Junghwan turned his head to Dongryong, asking him whether the confession made him happy. Junghwan said that he was just fulfilling Dongryong’s wish to see him confess to any girl. The confession was a joke. They laughed to it, while Doksun was crying inside.
It happened 5 years since they graduated from high school. Five years since Doksun and Junghwan separated. In order to become a combat pilot, a young Junghwan moved to Sachon. He left Ssangmundong and Doksun behind. In the first year, Doksun missed him so much. She did not know how much Junghwan had filled her days before. It felt natural for her to keep meeting him. She never dreamt that there would be a day to say “good bye” to him. Still, Doksun tried to move on. She managed her life, not to be lost from Junghwan. She finally got into an academy after second time trying. She had turn into a professional stewardess when Junghwan’s confession brought her back into her high schooler days.
She remembered how high schooler Junghwan broke her heart into pieces. She cried so much for the Pink Shirt Fiasco (she liked to call it that way), only to found out later that he actually did not give it away. Junghwan and his brother had their own pink shirts. He could have told her earlier, saving her from the pain, but he never did. He did not care about her feelings. Doksun took it as a sign that he did not like her the way she did.
The process to shift her heart from Junghwan was hard. She tried to go to blind dating as much as possible. She dated few of them who reminded her of him. She dated a pilot once just because Junghwan is a pilot. Another time she dated a prickly one because Junghwan was a prickly. She quickly realized she hated prickly guys, unless he was Kim Junghwan. She had dated a Sachon guy, only to found out he had move to Seoul. There went her excitement about the Sachon guy. She broke up with all three. Doksun still liked Junghwan, eventhough she kept trying to dismiss her feelings.
There was no one better than Kim Junghwan for her. No one challenged her the way he did. No one made her smile the way he did. No one made her furious and happy at the same time. Most importantly, no one gave her butterflies in her stomach. She missed him. She missed bickering with him. She missed hating to love him.
She did found another guy to date in September 1994. Her friend introduced the two. She was happy Junghwan was there to witness her ability to find his replacement. He got his two weeks leaves in October and stayed in Ssangmundong, perfect time for Taek’s 23rd birthday. In the party, Doksun showed the guy off, much to her friends’ disbelief. Nobody stopped her when she said she was going to go to a Concert with that man, not even Junghwan.
When she did goes to the Concert, she was left stranded because the guy chose his real girlfriend. Luckily, her best friend Taek from the Ssangmundong Five came to the rescue. She was so happy to have a friend like him, but Taek wanted more. She was shocked to found it out. Until today, she still remembered how Taek confessed to her and the horrible feeling she felt afterwards.
--------
“I like you Doksun-ah” Taek whispered to her in the Concert.
“Ya Master Taek, what are you talking about?” She could not hear him in between the loud cheer.
“I said I like you. I forfeited my baduk match to come for you.”
“What? Ya! Don’t joke around with me Taek-ah. It’s weird” Doksun continued singing along the song.
“I am serious. I like you Doksun-ah. I like you since we were young. You take care of me well. Ever since my mom died, it was you who make me smile. I want you to know about this. I like you.” Choi Taek ended his confession and planted his lips onto hers. Doksun felt terrible about the kiss. She pushed him away.
“Taek! What are you doing to me? Are we not even a friend? You can’t just kiss me like that.”
Feeling hurt, Choi Taek mumbled his sorry. He had tears in his eyes. He ran away and made Doksun felt terrible. Doksun had always been protective toward that friend. Choi Taek was a master in baduk world, but also a fool in everyday lives. Doksun and the rest of the gang always doted on him, helping him on the simplest task, making sure he would not get hurt. Choi Taek was a little baby for the rest of the gang, even though they were all born in the same year.
Doksun followed him to his car. Luckily, she found him struggling to find his way out of his parking spot. Doksun tapped his window and said sorry for hurting him.
“No, it’s me. I am the one who made a mistake. I am sorry. I should not have force you like that. I am sorry Doksun-ah” he said in the middle of his sobbing.
“I was wrong too Taek-ah. I am sorry. I feel grateful that a Baduk God likes me.” She smiled. “I do, Taek. I wish I could reciprocate your feeling, but I can’t Taek. I liked somebody else. I really am sorry. You are my friend, my best friend.”
“It’s okay Doksun-ah. I understand. I can’t force you into liking me anyway.” He forced a smile.
“We can still be friends Taek-ah. Would you stay being my friends?”
“I will Doksun-ah. We are still friends, but maybe I need some time alone.”
“You’re not gonna do something terrible right, Taek-ah?”
“I am not.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah, I’m just…. I think I need time alone, maybe I’ll go for a while”
“Where are you going? When will you come back? Do you want me to accompany you?”
“NO.” He shouted. “I am sorry Doksun-ah, I really need some time alone from you.”
“Okay Taek-ah. I am sorry”
“Yeah”
“Uhm, Can I drive for you? At least to get you out from this parking spot.”
--------
They were always friends, all five of them; Junghwan, Taek, Dongryong, Sunwoo and Doksun. She liked Taek just like how she liked Dongryong and Sunwoo. It was only Junghwan who got the special place in her heart. She took care of Taek, but not the same way she took care of Junghwan. Unlike Taek, Junghwan could do his own thing very well, but did not stop Doksun to steal a glance at him and tried to do things he missed.
If Junghwan was eating, she would casually offer everyone drinks so she would be able to give one for Junghwan too. Whenever Junghwan looked weary, she would joke around with his dad or Dongryong to entertain him. Over the years, she had given so many chocolates to his brother in a hope that he would give some to Junghwan too. Sometime, she asked for his favorite foods or mangas from Taek, so she could give them to him right after. It was awful now that she realized Taek’s feeling, but she could not help it then.
When Kim Junghwan announced that he would go back to Sachon, she asked him right away if they could send they goodbye properly. She offered to throw a goodbye party for him. Junghwan just snarked at the idea, thinking it was her way to get a free drinks. Nevertheless, three days before leaving Ssangmundong he invited them to the newest trendy café in Seoul. Doksun was awarded Dongryong’s thumbs up for getting them free drinks.
That was when the horrible fake confession happened. She forgot how it began, but remembered it ended badly. She could hear their laugh haunting her even in her room. ‘Was that happened because she had broken Taek’s heart two days prior?’ ‘Why else would Junghwan, the love of my life fake a confession for me?’ ‘Maybe I should not have reject Taek.’ ‘There was nothing wrong with him anyway.’ ‘He was nice and has a good-looking face.’ ‘He was a pro baduk player at it.’ Doksun who had never met Junghwan would consider settling down with him. He practically has everything, except of course, the ability to move Doksun’s heart. It made her felt awful just by thinking that she would accept Taek’s heart when she did not feel the same. She liked Junghwan and only him.
Her thought raced to Junghwan. Like always, everything would lead her back to him. His confession, joking or not, had moved her heart. She needed to tell Junghwan about that. She could not pretend that heart had moved on anymore. She could not act like she did not like him when her heart still beating fast for him even after 5 years passed. She needed him to know her heart. She called him right away, could not wait until the next day. She was afraid her courage would leave her the next morning. She was shocked when Junghwan answered her phone just after one ring. It was in the middle of the night.
“Hello” Junghwan greeted her with a deep voice.
“Mmmh, Junghwan-ah. Let’s talk”
“What? Doksun? It’s already late.”
“I don’t care. Let’s talk. We need to talk”
“Are you drunk? We did not drink much.”
“I’ll wait in front of our gate”
“Ya! Wait. Are you serious?”
Doksun hung up her phone. She took her jacket and went outside. Junghwan was at his door looking confused. She knew he still would show up even if he said he would not. She nodded at him and went out of the gate, knowing Junghwan would follow her. She headed to the stairs in their neighbor.
“Ya wait! What are you doing right now? Where are you going?”
She stopped in front of the stairs, the stairs where he cupped her face in 1989, begging her to understand his feeling. She had turned back, facing him directly.
“I want you to listen. Do not say a word until I finish.” She looked into his eyes.
“Hmm?”
“Junghwan-ah.” She took her breath.
“Junghwan-ah. I really want to say this since a long time ago, but I just can’t. I like you. I really like you. I tried to convey my feeling to you the whole time. I did all sort of things just to get your attention. Did you think it was a pure luck that we went to school together? I woke up early just to be able to sit next to you in the bus. I faked an injury so you could hold my hands. Ah Lee Moonsae Concert! When you said you did not want to go to the Concert, I was so sad that I could not sleep well. I dreamt about asking you to go to the concert. My mind was only on you. You. When you finally agreed to go to the concert… Also when I finally able to give you present for your birthday… I was so happy and proud, even though you did not like it. It was so stupid that I gave you the pink one, but I just hoped it would match the mittens you gave me. I was always happy being near you, always wanted to see you more than a dozen times a day. I have always wanted to say this since a long time ago. I really like you. I love you. I love you, although you only see me as a joke. I love you although you do not feel the same about me. I love you Junghwan-ah…”
Doksun exhaled her breath. She felt the jail in her heart finally opened. She had finally confessed her feeling. Junghwan blinked his eye, did not say anything. Doksun just smiled, felt the rejection would come any minutes then.
“You can reply now. I know what you are going to say, but I still need to hear it. I need to confirm it. I need to know that you don’t love me back so I can finally let you go.”
“Doksun-ah...” Junghwan tried to find his word. “Doksun-ah, it’s not supposed to be like this. I thought about it the whole time, I was sure you did not like me. I thought I was the fool one for crazily being in love with you. I was so sure you love other man. Even today, you kept looking at the door when I confessed to you.”
Doksun did not believe what she heard. ‘Junghwan liked her back?’ Something must have went wrong.
“Did you just say that you like me?” she needed to assure it.
“Yeah, I…. I like you”
“Haha, so you like me. Hahaha” Doksun bursting in laugh, she was so happy.
“Shhh!. People would wake up.”
“Ahahaha, sorry. Sorry, ahaha.”
“But, I thought you did not like me!”
Doksun kissed him. It was only a peck but her heart trembled like crazy. She forgot that she was the one who started it.
“Did you just…” A blushing Junghwan could not form his question well.
“I love you Junghwan-ah. I love you the whole time, but what could I say when you confessed in front of Sunwoo and Dongryong? I was so embarrassed.”
“I thought you were looking for Taek. I thought you liked him the whole time”
“I did look for him too. We had a fight, so I am concerned at the fact that he did not come because of me. He was so upset.”
“Taek? Why did you have a fight with him? He never had a fight with anyone, especially you. He would never be angry at you. He lov…” Junghwan stopped his sentences.
“You knew?”
“Ehm What?”
“You knew that he likes me. You knew.”
“Ehh, yeah, I know. Taek confessed about it in front of us long time ago.”
“Long time ago? Taek only confessed to me this week. That’s how we had a fight, because I rejected him. I choose you.”
“Mmmm.” He answered.
“What’s with ‘mmmm’? Say it clearly!”
“I don’t know. I am sad for Taek, but I cannot say that I am not enjoying this moment. Ya! I thought after all this time you would understand about it.” He has back to his prickly self. “I have been in love with you since God knows when.”
“Ya! How could I know when you never say it to my face? I thought I am doing this one sided love the whole time. I am suffering alone” she hit his shoulder.
He pulled her closer, and cupped her face, “Let’s stop bicker for now.”
She stopped him, “Wait, you need to put this ring on me first.”
She took a box out of her pocket and opened it. Junghwan raised his brows.
“What? I took it when I said I was going to the toilet. This is mine. You gave it to me.” She pouted her lips.
“Ahahahaa, yes it is yours. Always yours. Here let me put it on you”
He tried but failed to put the ring on her finger. The ring was too big and definitely did not match her girly lean hand. They laugh at situation. Doksun had to close her mouth with her ring-free hand in order not to woke up the whole neighbor. Junghwan said that he would find a necklace for her so she could hang it. Doksun looked into his eyes trying to say “thank you”. The next thing she remembered was the taste of his sweet lips.
In her last semester as a high schooler, Doksun finally put a real effort in her studies. Her mother had stopped calling her Sooyeon after her teacher explained about Doksun’s below average grade. It was the real wake-up-call for Doksun. Since then, Doksun spent most of her times in school or the study room to made up for her lazy days. Nevertheless, never once she forgot thinking about the boy who broke her heart, Junghwan.
It was true that Doksun had previously promised herself to forget Junghwan all together. However after four days passed, she gave up. How could she forget about him when they practically lived in the same house? They always had accidental encounter wherever she went. They were friends since childhood too, so they shared the same clique, The Ssangmundong Five. She could not help it anymore. She could not make him out of his head. Junghwan was still the same Kim Junghwan whom she loved. By the fifth day, she gave up to her butterflies’ protest after they saw his shy smile in their usual accidental encounter. He was forgiven by then.
Weeks after, she had to restrain herself to run for Junghwan’s room. Sometimes she seriously thought on using her weakness in study as a chance to get near Junghwan. Unlike her, Junghwan always got first rank at school, adding to a list of things she admired about him. She would ask him to teach her math. She could use a good math teacher too, but deep down she knew that she would not be focusing on math if she was near him. Therefore, she always forced herself to look down to her book instead.
Six weeks before the final exam, she closed her room and tried hard to absorb the knowledge to pass the exam. She could hear Miran and her mother gossiping in their living room. Their topic was final exam. Ha! She was not shock when they opened her door without knocking. The moms seemed worried about her.
“Doksun-ah, are you doing good?”
“Doksun-ah, do you want Omma to get you food?”
“Ah, I am doing well and I don’t need any food. Thank you.”
“What are you learning? Do you understand it?”
“Math. I don’t understand it actually but I’ll find out soon. No worries. It’s me Doksun.”
Both of the middle age women did not seem to agree. Miran opened her mouth again, suggesting Doksun to study with her son. Her mom thought it could be good idea too, because she knew his first rank reputation. Doksun tried to dismiss the idea, but she was helpless, both in front the moms and math. Therefore, she dejectedly followed Miran to her house with couple of books in her hand.
Miran told Doksun to went ahead to her son’s room while she was preparing food for them. Doksun opened the door, and was shocked seeing Junghwan in the pink shirt. He was putting it on when Doksun came in, did not have the time to tighten all the buttons yet. His chest was still bare open. Doksun could not back off to the living room where his mother could see her blushing face, made it more awkward for her. Junghwan had turned to opposite direction to her relief and disappointment.
“Ya! Why didn’t you knock before? Learn to knock, will you?” he yelled as he was trying to tighten all of the buttons as fast as possible.
“I am sorry.” Doksun knew she was defeated.
“Why did you come here?”
“Well, your mother told me to learn Math from you”
“Wenyoel?! When did you start studying? This is not you.” “Ya! I know how to study too, okay? I just need you to teach me some question. And I’ll learn the rest myself”
“Well, would you understand it if I only teach a little? Ah, it would be hard to teach you.” He asked to her face this time having done his job to tighten all the buttons.
“Ya! This was your mother’s idea.”
“What is the proof? My mother isn’t here, she left earlier.”
“She is now in the kitchen but she went to my home before. She told me you would teach me. She was wrong though. You and your bighead would never teach me or anyone.”
Miran was in the kitchen but planning to go out with her Neighborhood Ahjumma Gang. The gank was consisted of her, Doksun’s mother, and Sunwoo’s mother, Sung Sunyeon. The three ahjummas had a plan to have a girls’ night out. Upon hearing Sunyeon’s voice calling her out, Miran stopped her job in the kitchen. Luckily, Jungbong chose that time getting out of his room. He was dressed in nice pink shirt clearly ready for dating. Even so, he was sent to kitchen instead. Miran told him to bring goguma and warm milk for Junghwan and Doksun. Sighing, Jungbong tried to do the errand in full speed. The milk was not warm enough when he poured it into two glasses. Flying, he put the foods on Junghwan’s table while saying goodbye instead of hello to Doksun.
Doksun could feel his face turned red as she saw that scene. Junghwan and Jungbong had the same pink shirts. She thought they shared one shirt together, dismissing the fact that the two boys had different figure. She had no idea that Junghwan did not give it away. She lost count on how many times she cried over it, only to found out that Junghwan just “forgot” to explain it to her. Junghwan nonchalantly tried to get Doksun back to math problem, but Doksun was determined.
“You did not give the shirt to Jungbong Oppa.” She stated her mind.
“Hmm, yeah, I didn’t. He has his own shirt.”
“Then why didn’t you explain about this? I was mad at you.”
“Ya! It was because you never give me the chance to explain. You just ran off, remember?”
“Ya! You could have chased me then, or you could explain to me after. You never did that. You just acted like nothing’s happen.”
“Sorry”
His answer took her by surprise. It was unlike Junghwan to acknowledge his loss, especially to her. They always needed someone to shut them up whenever they were bickering, because both wanted to have the final say. Doksun glared at Junghwan, she would not go easy at him this time. Junghwan saw the glare but preferred to look down to the book instead. What he said next made Doksun’s blood boiling.
“Ya! You cannot do this question? Aigoo. So, your teacher did not tell you about this one, huh? I am sure they would have taught you already though. Why can’t you understand it? It’s so easy. Aigoo.”
“Sooyeon-i” Doksun heard her mother calling her. Her real name was Sung Doksun but her mother called her ‘Sooyeon’ after a fortune teller told her that the name Sooyeon would bring her daughter into a good college.
“Yeah Omma?”
“Please bring this kimchi jjigae upstairs. I want the Kims to taste this.”
“Ugh, Omma Can you ask Noeul instead?”
“Aigoo What’s wrong with this girl? Noul isn’t home. Just bring this already. They gave us Kimchi earlier”.
Sighing, Doksun took that pot form her mother’s hands. She was always happy to help her mother, but that day was different. Yesterday she fought with one of the Kim’s child. She had gifted that boy a shirt, but he gave away the shirt to his brother instead. ‘Why did he do that? Didn’t he like me?’ they were the questions that came into her mind. The boy had once asked her not to go to blind date. She thought it was because he liked her. ‘Was he unsatisfied with the shirt I gave then?’ But the shirt was everything to her! She remembered asking money from her dad, something she rarely did knowing her family economic situation. She remembered asking her friend Jang Manok to help her finding the perfect gift for him. In fact, she remembered Manok’s complain about her hurting legs because she kept dragging her to the next stores.
She wanted the best gift for him and to her, it was that shirt. She really liked that shirt from the very first look. It was long sleeves cotton shirt colored in pink, her favorite color. She knew that the boy always wore black, which was the reason she picked a non-black one. She wanted to see him in other colors. She thought pink would be nice change for him. Moreover, he did give her pink mittens. She wanted to pair those up. She turned giddily in the mall thinking that pink would be their couple color. However, she saw his brother in the pink shirt instead of him. She was hurt. She did not want to see his face anymore.
Doksun left out another sigh when she arrived at the Kim’s family front door. She opened it and she saw all members of Kim family sitting at the dining table. Head of the Kim family was Kim Sunggyun Ahjushi who liked to do jokes with her. His wife, Kim Miran Ahjumma was the most sophisticated woman she ever knew. She liked her home-cooked western foods. Their first son, Kim Jungbong Oppa was someone who knew all the cool stuffs. The youngest, Kim Junghwan was the boy in question, the boy who broke her heart. She tried not to look at Kim Junghwan, but could not help noticing the boy shamelessly stared at her. ‘He acts nonchalant as usual’, she thought. ‘He must be thinking he is forgiven’. ‘Did he not feel guilty by giving the pink shirt to his brother?’ Doksun fell deep in her thought until the Ahjussi noticed her and gave his biggest smile. He always treated Doksun nicely.
“Aigoo, Sung Sajang!” said the Ahjussi as he greeted her using the line from a joke.
“Anyeong Ahjussi.” Answered Doksun shortly. She preferred not to be in the same room with Junghwan for a long time, therefore she ignored the Ahjussi’s call to joke. Junghwan and his dad looked at her with their confused faces. It must be weird for them seeing Doksun left the joke unreplied. Nevertheless, Doksun did not seem to care.
“Anyeong Dok…Ehem, Sooyeon-i”
“Ah Ahjumma, I come to give you this. Omma wanted you to try it.” She had turned her head to Miran Ahjumma.
“Aigoo, it smells nice. Thank you Doksun-ah. Ehem, Sooyeon-i. Let’s eat with us too.”
“Right Doksun-ah. Ehem, Sooyeon-i. Take a seat there next to Junghwan.” The ahjussi tried to persuade her as well
“No thank you Ahjumma, Ahjussi. I’ll just eat later at home”
“Are you sure Sooyeon-ah? Ahjumma made this galbitang”
She looked at the galbitang, and she knew her usual self would want it. But she still could not bring herself sitting next to Junghwan.
“Ah, thank you Ahjumma. Today Omma cooked so many foods though. If I don’t eat it all, who else will? Hehehe” she laughed it off as she tried to act nonchalantly in front of Junghwan.
“Ah, okay Sooyeon –ah.”
“Hehe, okay I’m going home then.”
“Ah keureu Sooyeon –ah Please say thank you for your omma too.”
“Of course.” She said as she walked out of the Kim’s house.
Doksun went straight into her room right after. She was glad that her sister went out for Library so she could cry in private. Her tears were flowing as she remembered her friend’s advice for her love life. That friend was Yoo Dongryong the counselor of Ssangmundong Five. He was nowhere near Kim Junghwan and Sung Sunwoo’s level academically, nor a baduk genius like Choi Taek, but his advices on human relationship were always better than the rest of the gank.
Dongryong said that she should like a man because she truly liked him, not merely because he liked her. He said that she should follow her heart. Well, her heart knew who she wanted. It was Junghwan. It was Junghwan who could give her butterflies in her stomach. They danced in her stomach when he protected her in crowded bus, or when he gave her umbrella in the night after she slept in Study Hall, or when he simply told her good night. The butterflies gave her the tingling sensation for too many times, she could not count it anymore. One thing she knew for sure, they came only for Junghwan, Kim Junghwan.
That day the sensation came again, mocking her sadness. The butterflies did not stop their celebration dance for meeting Junghwan even when she was mad at him. She still liked him. She knew it. She noticed all the small things about him just from their 5 minutes meeting. She noticed the how he stopped eating once she came, unlike Jungbong Oppa who still gobbled up his food. She noticed how rice stuck in his lower lip. Also, she noticed how good he looked in his usual black sweater. As much as she wanted him to try new colors, she still found that black was a good choice for him. It complemented his shining black hair nicely. She knew she still liked him a lot although she was not sure about his feeling. She hoped Yoo Dongryong had given her advice to tackle heartbroken too because she felt empty inside. She cried her eyes out.
By the time her father finally came from work, she was already a mess. Her mother had knocked at her door, wanting her to go to table and eat with them. Doksun pulled the blanket up to her face pretending to sleep instead. Her mother opened her door and commented how she looked exhausted. Her father said that she must had study hard at school. He wishfully added that she would get into university on her first try. They both laughed at that thought and closed the door. Hearing all of that, Doksun pinched her own cheeks. After debating and doing the self-slap for a while, she finally promised to herself that she would forget Junghwan and focus on her study. She did not want to disappoint her parents.

This episode was opened with a scene of Gewi’s grieving. Perfect time for us, the fangirls to go all emo with him, even though we’re not really sure why. Anyway, continuing from the last scene in episode 5, Bonui tried to explain her condition to Je Suho, but he left before she could say anything. She could not find the perfect words to explain him through text either. Poor him, waiting for her text.
Gewi was running alone for his health, while Aiymee waited in his house. Aiymee tried to do aegyo to get him for modelling IF. Gewi rejected it by saying that he didn’t like the CEO of the game company. Oh, I wonder why. Gewi, can’t you see how cute Aiymee is?
Unknowingly, Suho knocked on his door. He wanted to talk about Bonui, but since Aiymee was there so the topic change into scouting Gewi. The three had a nice chit chat in a café. Still, Gewi rejected IF offer. This scene is nice while it lasts. I need this two to keep talking. Eargasm to the max. Aiymee is so pretty, so she can be there.

Ryu Junyeol just won Best New Actor Award (drama category) in 20160603 52nd Baeksang Arts Award for his performance as Kim Junghwan in drama Reply 1988. Congratulations! You deserved it. I hope Je Suho will lead you to another award!!
I am Je Suho, a 14 years old wizard. Yes, you heard me right, I am a wizard. Right now, I am doing my study in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, but I’ve been good even before I went here. When I was 4 years old and wanted to keep a dirty stray cat home, it turned into a lot more beautiful cat just when I arrived to the house. The dirt was gone and I got to keep it. Couple of times, I made some shop assistants speechless because their sold out goods magically reappear when I want to buy it. I am also the ultimate winner in the game of holding breath underwater. My friends thought that I was cheating because it exceeded 10 minutes. I did not cheat, I just somehow managed to do without effort, like magic.
It is great to be a wizard, but it does not guarantee that you will be happy all the time. You cannot be so sure that you will get the girl. A wizard like me gets his heart broken too. I remember the first girl who broke my heart. She was Han Deoksun, my childhood friend. I forget the first time we met, it seems like I knew her forever. She was the only girl in my gang. There were five of us, Nam Taek, Park Dongryong, Han Sunwo, she and I. She was stand out not because she was the only girl but because she was as bright as sunshine. Of course not in the term of intelligence as she was known to have the poorest grade among my gang. She was very kind and cheerful.
To tell you about Deoksun, well, she was not strikingly pretty. She was just okay. You can say that she was the prettiest among the ugliest. I am not exactly sure of why I liked her. Maybe, it was just the comfortable feeling I got around her. Unfortunately, my dear friend Taek felt the same about her. He declared his feeling in front of the gang minus Deoksun. Ever since that, I felt uncomfortable to approach Deoksun. I remember how painful it was to take my distant from Deoksun. I did not go to a theme park even after she begged me to. Never once did I wear the snapbacks she gave me. Eventually, Deoksun took steps away from me.
I did not stay in sadness for a long time. Hogwarts invitation came to me on the right time for me to forget Deoksun. I was just eleven years old when Ra Miran came to my house and said that I was a wizard all along. I was so shocked, but not my family. They just nodded to all the things that Miran said. They said it was about time for someone to explain all the “weird” things that I did. My brother recounted them all while I was having a jaw-dropped moment. I was the only one who could not sense all the indications.
I remember my mother asked was if Ra Miran would take me to expel all the ghosts in me. Ra Miran snickered hearing that. Her glare made me decide that I should not make her angry, ever. It seemed like the temperature in the room dropped couple degree with her glare alone. She snorted and said that there was nothing wrong with me. I was just a wizard, nothing different from any other human beings except for the fact that I produce magic. She finally took Hogwarts letter out of her bag and told us that it was an invitation for me to get further education in magic, and not to dispel my magic ability.
None of my friends received the invitation. Same as my family, they are muggles, a non-wizard humans. Too bad, I could not tell them who I really am. It must be exciting to tell them although I can tell that they would ask me to perform stupid magic. Whenever Sunwoo performed a card trick, Deoksun, Dongryong and Taek would clap like a seal no matter how many times they see it. I was the only one who did not clap. They claimed it was because I was jealous, but immediately shut their mouth when I copied the trick right away. I assume they would ask for infinite ttoppoki if they knew I was a wizard.
My parents let me pursue the magic, anyway. They cried when it was time for me to go Hogwarts. We had to lie to our neighbors and said that I went to a boarding school in Jeju. I was nervous leaving my home behind, but being in Hogwarts was actually nice. I spent my first year studying harder than I ever was. It was not for grades, it was for fun. Everything in Hogwarts was interesting to me, foods, the castle, classes, well, everything. I was so busy there that eventually I forgot about my broken heart.
School was so interesting that it made me hate the summer holiday. It was even more boring for me as I need to spend day by day without doing any magic. My family took me to Jeju for summer. They thought I needed to actually go there so that I would lie better. However, I did not find anything interesting there. The island was full of tourists, muggle tourists. So, I kept myself locked in my hotel room. I spent time reading books which were bought in Flourish and Blotts before I went back to Korea. It was two peaceful days until my mom snapped and took my books away. She threw me to the desolate beach where my father and brother waiting.
My father kept telling me to go to the water. I did, but it was because of Ryuja. Ryuja is a magical citrus which I discovered later to have a perfect nutrition to prevent skin aging. It was my first encounter with the tree. In other words, it was human first encounter with the actual Ryuja tree. Ryuja was so rare that it was almost as enigmatic as a myth. “One Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi”, our first Herbology book mentioned that there are only two known Ryuja trees in the whole world, in Hindia Ocean and North Pole. Well, with the one I found in Jeju, there would be 3 known Ryuja trees now. However, the discovery of Ryuja was not simple. I almost got killed by it.
The tree was standing tall in water, about 100 meters from the beach. The water surrounding the Ryuja was very calm, with almost no waves. Ryuja looked no different from a muggle citrus tree. However wizard eyes like mine would not be fooled. From the very first glance I knew that Ryuja was not just ordinary plants. It had magic charm in it. The gold sparkling in its fruit revealed its secret. It had me attracted. I swam to get to Ryuja. From closer look the tree was even more sparkling and magical. I let myself to admire its beauty. Then, I reached out to get its ripen fruit, but something caught my leg before I touch it. It was Ryuja’s branch. Ryuja was big underwater and much like the Whomping Willow, it has tendency to knock you out.
It took my leg and shook it furiously. Of course, I was still attached to it. Some spells come to my mind, but even then I knew that those spells would do nothing to Ryuja. I thought it would be the end of me, until I remembered the last page of Herbology book that I read. It was about Mimbulus Mimbletonia, a rare plant which will squirt out Stinksap if prodded. I tried to do the same to the Ryuja. I gave a tickle to its trunk. Well, actually all I did was to reach out my hand to it while Ryuja shook me up and down. It actually made the whole tree shudder. After a while, it calmed down and released my leg. I was free.
I swam up to the surface right away. After taking a lot of breath, I looked at my family on the beach. They still focused on their own thing. My father and hyung were trying to catch a fish hiding in the rocks, and mum was reading my stolen book. They were oblivious to the fact that I almost got killed. I looked at the calmed Ryuja, and thought that it needed to give me something in return. So, I tickled it twig until it sniggered and picked one Ryuja. The tree actually let me do that without much hassle. I repeated it until I got all the ripen Ryujas. Then I swam back to the beach.
I lied down as soon as I arrived to the beach. Ryujas were scattered around me. I was too tired to move. Just when I closed my eyes, I heard my father coughing, Apparently, he ate my Ryuja. I still didn’t know if Ryuja was poisonous or not, but the speed of my father mouth was unbeatable anyway. I could not stop him. The Ryuja turned out to be poisonous and my father was choking on it. I still remember how my brother said, “oooh” “oooh” and I was too scared to look. When I did, I saw my father was getting a bit younger. Some of his white hair turned black. He coughed a lot. It looked like eating a Ryuja give him a hard time to breath. I did not know what to do. I casted the first spell which came to my mind, Wingardium Leviosa, the levitation charm. Ryuja pulps came out from my father mouth. After he spewed all the pulp, he rubbed his neck, and breathed heavily. His black hair turned white again.
We were too speechless that none of us said a word. Suddenly a ministry howler came. It read itself, telling me that I broke Decree for the Reasonable Restriction of Underage Sorcery. They gave me notice and asked me not to use magic near muggles again. My family look more horrified than ever. My mom tried to throw away all the hardly obtained Ryujas without touching them. I saved them instead. I knew that it I would find a way to make use of it later.
