i sometimes assume that people know a lot more about the subjects of my interest than they actually do – *insert that specific xkcd meme* –, but it truly surprised me that I couldn't find anything related to David Bowie's personas in the Markiplier Ego fandom. and believe me, i've been SEARCHING.

so, becoming the change i want to see in the world, here is my brand new AU, where i assign one ego to every Bowie persona. i accept au name suggestions, because i am stuck.

anyways! Ziggy Stardust was easily Bowie's most iconic persona, appearing early on his career, after gaining global fame. the concept album 'Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars' (1972) depicts a story of an androgynous alien from Mars, who comes to save the humans from the end of the world, which was about to happen in five years. however, after gaining fame, Ziggy slowly succumbs to his own ego, and dies on stage as a rockstar.

Ziggy was inspired by glamrock, Iggy Pop, Bowie's own fascination with space, the sexual revolution of the '60s, and Bowie's own experience with stardom, alienation and potential. Bowie often found a way to tell great stories with unique characters in his songs, although Ziggy's iconic style was presumably the work of his first wife, Angie Barnett and the team behind.

in this AU, Ziggy and the band are from the Mars colony, who traveled to Earth to broadcast their prophecies about the end of the world. they earned interplanetary fame as rockstars in 2344, and Ziggy died on stage a few years before the Quiet Rapture. that makes Simon around 7 (Earth) years old when he first heard Ziggy's songs.

for some time, you could hear Starman more often than you'd do mariah carey in november. i am not sure what Eden as a cult thought about popculture, but "kinda tolerating" might be the best case scenario. therefore, Ziggy's character and his songs faded into Simon's fond childhood memories about Mars.

and why's yancy here? for shits and giggles mostly, this exact scenario is not part of my actual AU. this is just me thinking "wait, there are 2 Markiplier characters who are convicts, weird".
