Angsty fic idea. Simon’s link to Grace’s universe is not permanent. He flashes in and out of this reality at random, like his own personal rapture. Sometimes the connection is stable and they’re together for months. Other times he gets pulled back after only a few hours. Grace, Rocky, and Simon work to find a way to keep Simon in this reality before his mind is completely lost.
I don’t even need them to kiss. If they hold hands and do science together for the rest of their lives that’s enough for me!

Bloodymary/Simon Headcanons
Simon is really good at just figuring things out, so he learns to pilot the Hail Mary far faster and better than Grace.
Simon cries the first time he sees the plants on Hail Mary. He spends most of his time just sitting staring at them. When he’s not doing that or helping Grace with whatever, he’s researching how to care for plants.
Simon’s education was more religious indoctrination than real schooling. When he realizes Grace was a teacher Simon asks him lots of questions about science. Rocky thinks Simon is stupid, but Grace is a good teacher and Simon learns quickly.
Rocky and Simon bicker a lot.
Simon has nightmares about being back in the Iron Lung. He starts sleeping near Grace so that he’s the first thing Simon sees when he wakes up and knows he’s not alone. Grace holds Simon’s hand to stop bad dreams.
Simon is very protective of Grace and Rocky. When he learns Grace was forced on what was supposed to be a suicide mission he’s furious. This is when he lets slip that his life was also seen as expendable.
Grace is the one who initiates hugs but Simon is the last to let go.
Simon tries to cut his hair short but Grace nearly breaks down in tears when he sees Simon with the clippers. Long hair it is.
The first time Simon and Grace argue and Grace uses one of his classroom approved “swears”. Simon just stares at him for several seconds until finally he says, “What the fuck did you just say?”
You ever think about the massive survivors guilt Simon would have? He escaped a dying universe into a living one. His mom didn’t, neither did his brothers from Eden. Not Ava or anyone in the COI. Just him. He doesn’t even know if they got the black box. And if they did if it has anything that can help. Simon the Butcher is the only one who was spared from hell. The only one given grace.
After Simon has been around for a while Rocky confronts Grace. “Why Grace lie, question? Humans do watch sleep.”
“W-what are you talking about, Rock?”
“Grace say humans not watch sleep, but Grace watch Simon sleep.”
“Oh, no, that’s just because he was hurt. I was making sure he didn’t, you know, *die* from his injuries.”
“Simon not injured now and Grace watch last Simon sleep.”
“I- that was.. I was just-“
“Then Simon watch Grace sleep.”
“He what?”
“Rocky think Grace and Simon watch better if sleep in same bed.”
