MY WASHING MACHINE EATS SOCKS.

When a new album took its beginning, the man researched. He dove head first into understanding the story inside and out. He became friends with every single one- no matter how tragic or sad it was.

I’ll miss his station set up- with his messy hair and his ever so cool way of handing me a set of headphones without a word spoken.

As if to say, “Listen. It’s coming together.”

And I can remember the first track I wept over.

“First Step on the Surface.”

He dipped hydrophone mics in streams and ran sounds through old cassette players. He broke raw peppers, and shook old leather jackets, he clanged together tools and hid grandfather explanations inside melodies.

The way this man gathers sound is extraordinary, and if he broke it all down for you, I guarantee you’d lose your mind.

I have a Favorite track from this entire project.

I’ll save to tell.

As I explore each album again, I’m reminded of the drives, the moments I first heard them, the looks on his face, the Joy he found in creating them. I remember the months and the weather and the way they made me feel. I remember the view out the loft window of him walking around the pine trees and brush piles in Montana just waiting for that perfect obscurity that would later translate into something perfect for a track.

This human was born to Create.

And I don’t want to imagine his life without the freedom to do so.

He’s too good at it, but more importantly, it’s too good at him, and it’s what helps this Boy’s heart beat I’m sure.

I wish with all my heart I could capture and explain every detail of every track, every album, and each inspiration, the work that went into it, and the hidden easter eggs~ what some of the things you’re actually hearing are. It’s awe-striking.

When it’s hot, I’ll listen to ‘Georgia Boys,’ and when the dash is lit up at night, ‘Wheels Down.’

And when everything is right in the Heart, I’ll listen to my Favorite track from this entire project.

And although I have 31 top tracks, and 7 Favorite favorites, there is one I just can’t get away from:

“The Descent.”

It has to be.

I have no choice.
