Planet Hunt lands on the Apple Store after a number of iterations from FunGo Studios mainly aimed to enhancing the appealing of our games but still keeping immediate and simple mechanics. Planet Hunt indeed follows a specific trend that is leading the gaming marketplace on the mobile stores since mixes simplicity, nice graphics, relatively short game sessions and in general in immediately get to the player.
Technologically, to render this concept we relayed on the main features of Apple SpriteKit, which provides a number of great tools for developers to introduce dynamics elements and physics into a simple 2D gameplay like ours. We also took the most out of the GameCenter framework, with integrated leaderboards and achievements.
From the behind the scenes we tried out a number o customizations, starting from the idea of little birds that had to reach out to the nest on a tree. Since we liked the idea, it was a matter of perspective: the graphic study on the flight of the birds resulted inconclusive since the point of view required by this particular game mechanics involves a top down view on the game elements flying up, which was much more effective to be rendered on rockets.
So, what’s up next? Planet Hunt is the first step of a vertical evolution we thought on a simple concept. More complex gameplay ideas deriving from this gameplay are basically related to evolving the tower defense aspects of the game by introducing a strategic layer on top of it. To setup a level-based defense we are working on the speed of the rockets and on allowing multiple behaviors on the satellites. If you want to know more, stay tuned on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
