"It's been so hot lately." With no relief from the broken down air conditioning in her room, Kaori resorted to trying to find a cool place outside. The shore seemed like a nice enough place. A beautiful breeze, a nice view, relatively empty, too.

What an unforeseen surprise. When she had been returning home from a long day of classes and had heard children talking excitedly about a carnival being in town, Kaori was skeptical. Why here, of all places? And why now, of all times? Maybe the kids were pretending there was one? No, no-- that couldn't be it. One thing was certain: if there was a carnival in town, then it would be certain her two roommates would likely be attending, and that would mean her room would be empty for the evening. Now that was something she could get excited about. Being able to relax without being tense or putting up her usual front was a rare opportunity when all three occupants were in the shared living space.
She would make her way home with much haste now! ...Well, not without taking one tiny peek at the event just to see if it was as those children described.
As Kaori walked along the nearly deserted sidewalks, she reached into her bag and fished out a dark lavender pin and fastened it to the small tuft of hair she'd tied back earlier on. Hopefully that would be enough to ward off any unwanted company and falsify anything that might spring up. She was a cautious person, after all.
Arriving near the city's fountain, it was certainly a grand event. Food stalls, games, and decorations made the city a livelier, friendlier place. That's when it hit her-- she only been to a carnival once before, and that was years ago in her early childhood. At least that was one that she was able to recall. Her face lit up as her eyes scanned as much as they could to take everything in. Her whole expression had changed from indifference to awe before catching herself and doing her best to return it to its former state. Right. She had to focus on getting home for now, since she already took a look.
