Flickers of sounds and visuals, less defined than his thoughts but perceptible nonetheless. Human minds are so disjointed and fleeting, but Venom watches Eddie’s with rapt fascination and a certain fondness each time he rests and slumbers.

Tonight is different.

“You are not. We will speak to her today, that is final.”

And after another second of consideration, he takes over once more to make Eddie grab his phone and hit Anne’s contact to call.

"No--hey, no no no no" Eddie complains but he can't, for the life of him, take back control of his body to end the call.

"Since when are you making the final decisions for the both of us, huh? C'mon, V, I truly don't wanna talk to her or anyone for that matter."

"Any chance I can bribe you with chicken? Or chocolate?"

When the line connected, he tensed up.

This was getting old, but considering how often Venom seemed to want to take a peek like a curious dog during an outing to the park, Eddie wasn't entirely surprised every now and then a curious bystander would ask him about Venom. And if it were kids or old people he could say Venom's head was actually a balloon and Venom would, understandably so, get very, very offended.

He thought New Yorkers were self centered people who didn't care about other people's businesses. So what was up with everybody?

"Huh? What?"

"Oh you mean that--that is..."

"LET ME EAT HIS BRAIN, EDDIE! NO WITNESSES. STEALTHY STYLE."

"No eating brains while we're here", he murmured. "That is uhm--no one."

“Okay, I’ve gotta ask or none of this is going to make sense. Do you have Captain America in your timeline?” Bucky said, reaching into his pockets to see if he had any snacks stored there. His sweet tooth had come in handy as he felt a small Hershey’s bar in his pocket and he held it out. “Peace offering, Venom.”

"Captain who?" He asked with the most puzzled look on his face. "No, I don't think so. Although–" He paused briefly, shrugging "Where I'm from that could be the name of any pornstar."

Venom reached out towards the other and sniffed at the chocolate bar, his tongue stretching out and wrapping itself around the chocolate bar, some of the symbiote's saliva touching the man's hand as Venom's tongue pulled the candy back towards him and ate it in a single bite.

"THANK YOU."

"Sorry 'bout that, he's uh--he's not the best at socializing."

"I SAID THANK YOU."

"Yeah, well--" Eddie scrunched his face for a moment. "Heard the man, V. We don't wanna parade you around."

"PARTY POOPER…" Venom announced before he went back inside Eddie's body, which always made him shiver.

“I’m pretty sure that is not no one, considering it just spoke.” He slipped his arm into his jacket just in case whatever it was decided to get close.

"Yeah, well, I'd agree if it were because you're not wearing any hearing aid nor using a walking stick", he shrugged. Not that he was enabling Venom and his brain-eating habits.

"Who are you, again? Kinda asking a lot of question here and as New Yorker as you might be, it's kinda suspicious to be questioned without an introduction."

"THAT WAS BULLSHIT, EDDIE."

“I look good for my age.” Bucky smirked, despite the knowledge only amusing him. He didn’t move from his position and he eyed the stranger. “My name is Bucky. Can I ask about you and your… monster?” He was guessing as to what the hell that was but he wasn’t going to walk away from it.

"MONSTER??!!"

Eddie tugged Venom back, hands quickly holding onto thick, long strings of black goo to pull him close to him.

"C'mon, stop--" He eyed Bucky, clearly struggling with Venom to try and make him stay put. "Look, man, he isn't a monster, nor a parasite--"

"THANK YOU."

"And by the way, a lot of people talk to themselves. We gotta start destigmatizing mental health" He threw for good measure, always quick with his words to try and turn a conversation around.

There was a brief pause before he spoke again.

"I'm Eddie, this is Venom. And we're...incredibly lost. We're not from around here, is all. And uh--yeah, we're laving now. Bye!"

"WAIT! THIS ONE SMELLS DIFFERENT...KIND OF METALLIC. WHY?"

The mention of mental health made him snort. “Yeah, look, that’s not my forte but have you considered couples counselling with that th- Venom?” Bucky corrected himself quickly, trying to remind himself not to insult it.

"I would say that's…weird but cool, but then again we're not exactly your average type", Eddie said with some sarcasm and humor in his voice, shrugging.

"WE ARE NOT AVERAGE. WE'RE BETTER!"

"I don't know about that, buddy--" Eddie sighed, looking up as exhaustion could be seen clearly on his face. "We are looking for a way to go back home. As I said before we are not from this…" He tried to gesture with his hand, looking back at the other.

"TIMELINE", Venom added.

"Yes! That, timeline, universe, whatever. This New York doesn't look like the New York I know--and I would know because I grew up here and…I don't recognize half the things in this city."

Even if he hadn't been living in New York for the past two years when he moved to San Francisco.

"So unless you happen to know a way for us to do some multi-dimensional travel of sorts…then I don't know what you could help us with."

"FOOD. WE ARE HUNGRY."

Oh no, that was really, really bad.

"Shhh!" He urged, attempting to put his hand over her mouth but pulling it back on the last second, looking over his shoulder then left and right.

"SHE KNOWS YOU, EDDIE", Venom spoke but he could only hear it inside his head for now, thankfully.

"Yeah, I can see that--listen, lady, I--uh--don't....just keep quiet, please? Yeah? Promise I wasn't talking to you, I uh", he grabbed her arm as gently as he could to drag her to the side of a sidewalk, so they could talk without having to get in the way of other pedestrians and have some more...privacy? Eddie also knew there was no point in insisting he wasn't who the woman said he was because this one looked like he was going to insist on it.

"SHE DOESN'T LOOK LIKE A COP, EDDIE."

And perhaps, well…if her reaction had been genuine and a good one, the kind a fan would have, then maybe he could ask her for a small, tiny favor, right?

Eddie's response was strange(something Karen could write off as him being from San Francisco) but when he reached for her, Karen shifted back the slightest bit, a surge of panic rising up within her at that. The man backed off, though, and Karen breathed out the panic and lessened her grip on the strap of her purse. Then Eddie began to ask her to keep quiet and Karen's idea of weird went to trouble fast.

Most people weren't this cagey in public, and Eddie Brock's response made Karen curious. She was about to ask him something when his hand was on her arm and he was pulling her aside.

"What the hell," she huffed and tugged her arm from his grip. Then Eddie was asking her to keep quiet again and Karen exhaled.

Something was amiss.

Did she want to be involved? Did it matter?

Eddie sighed, keeping the woman at arm’s length as he used both of his own to rub his face and breathe deeply, as deeply as a man could, then moved his hands to his waist, looking at nowhere in particular. Perhaps he was panicking, maybe paranoia had hit him finally. Or maybe not, he wasn’t paranoid. He was being followed after all, right?

“I’m…so sorry”, he apologized, nodding as though the words were finally flowing and he was once again speaking like a normal human being. “I didn’t mean to scare you and I crossed a line out there touching—holding you, won’t happen again”, his eyes finally looked up to meet hers—he was starting to make a habit out of ducking his head in order to blend in with the people of New York.

“YOU SCARED HER, EDDIE.”

“…Been a hard couple of weeks”, he admitted and then cut himself off, “I know, V, I know—I’m trying to talk to her”, he mumbled and then cleared his throat.

"Listen, V", he began, baffled he was going to explain the difference between a handjob--or jerking off, and having sex with someone. "Last night was…jerking off. “…I can make a more realistic one,” he adds after a few more moments of thrusts and moans, leering close to the screen. “I can make things better than these stupid humans. These costumes are insulting,” he huffs quietly, knowing that’s not exactly the point. Eddie is repressing something, and it is not good for them.

When the actors reach their - very loud, very fake - climax, Venom makes Eddie scan his search history, and brings up another video with a similar theme. Soon though, he gives Eddie control again, and blocks the screen with his head.

Well, that was a fair question and Eddie didn’t have the answer to it. His mind was probably a huge storm of thoughts as Eddie tried to collect them and form a coherent answer to tell Venom but then—

He choked on his coffee.

“…You can just…shapeshift a dick? Really?” But then Eddie sighed, a soft smile on his face as he looked at the screen with some pity. “Yeah, they’re not…the best”, he murmured.

His hands were back to work, fingertips quickly pulling up old tabs and Eddie can’t help but groan in annoyance, even rolling his eyes. “V, you gotta stop that—“ He complained, then turned his face to look at Venom’s floating head. 

That was another valid question.

Exerting his control over Eddie’s motor functions, Venom takes over his hands and swiftly brings up his search history and reopens the closed tab. It fills the screen and starts to auto-play, dramatic moaning on full-volume while one actor is dressed in a xenomorph costume as the other is being pounded in the ass, a sleeve over the top’s cock to simulate something definitely alien-like.

"No, stop--hey!" He complained, groaning when Venom managed to put up the browsing history and soon enough, the porn he had glimpsed when Venom had been too busy eating more tater tots than he could fill in his mouth--and that had been a second or two, was on full display on his laptop.

"Ah, God…shut up", he mumbled, trying to look away but being unable to look at the screen and remembering everything they did last night and how fucking good it felt. He swallowed and tried to keep those thoughts as buried as he could to avoid any more unnecessary teasing and distraction from his article, but…

Venom narrows his eyes and swivels his head back toward Eddie, giving him the harshest stare an alien without pupils or irises can give.

He couldn't have saw that, Venom was too busy…distracting him about the rules of not eating people, right?

And once given the okay, he again devours the tray like a wild animal, scarfing down the fried potato goodness like they’ll never get another chance. We will need more tots from Mrs. Chen, Eddie.

If a symbiote can burp, Venom does, and slithers over to join Eddie at his laptop to snoop curiously.

"Remember what I said a long, long time ago", Eddie began, sitting on the chair and moving his neck slowly left and right. "Rough them up? Scare them? Absolutely. Eating them? Very, very few of them, and a few very specific things should be aligned before you can even eat'em", Eddie explained. "Patience is a virtue, V", he said, although he knew that was ironic considering how little patience he had in general.

Sylvie’s deadpan voice comes to a slow stop once she lifts her eyes from the register to the - sweaty - man in front of her. Oh no, not another one.

“Um… What can I get started for you?”

"Uhhhh yeah--hi, uh--"

Truthfully? This was the second time he had gotten teleported from one location to the other; at first, he had a lot of nausea, then he felt a sudden hunger he couldn't do much about and he blamed Venom partly for that. He was tired, confused, and done with the whole teleporting situation he couldn't seem to also not do much about.

"GET THE CHOCOLATE EMPANADAS!!" Venom said inside his head.

"Shhh I'm...trying to pick--they don't have empanadas here, this is a McDonald's, we already left Mexico" He tried to whisper as he looked to the side as if Venom was there although it was just Eddie.

"EMPANADAS!"

"Fine, fine--shut up" He cleared his voice and looked ahead, trying to offer a reassuring smile to the young lady in front of him but he was sure it came of as creepy. "So can I get the uh...the chocolate filled treats? How about uh---four...?"

"TWELVE!"

Two streams of consciousness bombard her, one foreign and alien, one just a regular human’s; she feels their hunger, she feels their worry, she feels their underlying fear. She sees their beginning and present, their origin, traces of their other universe, and the download of information makes her choke on her own saliva for a hacking moment. There are very much two beings in front of her, combined into one, and they are not supposed to be here.

They need help. Gods fucking damnit. She could have stayed out of it, she could have gone home - but no, it will eat her up inside if she doesn’t offer… something. Too fucking bad her tempad is on the fritz- Sylvie clears her throat to mitigate any suspicion, and goes about starting to close a few minutes early.

“Go home, Jake,” she tells her single other coworker, and he doesn’t need a second longer to head out. The fryer needs to be drained and the grill needs to be cleaned but she can’t be bothered, throwing a spell or two at them to handle themselves. The last step is to lock the doors from the inside and secure the register, and then she nabs a tray to fill it with the foods that were destined for the trash: several burgers, three large fries, a few chicken patties, and the rest of the empanadas - both chicken, and chocolate.

With that and three - three - sodas all balanced, she joins him at a booth to sit across from him with a studying glare.

"All right, here's the deal, V", Eddie spoke slowly, his eyes moving left and right to be on the lookout for anyone keeping an eye on them for whatever reason. Perhaps he was being paranoid, maybe it was the fact he was apparently in a random state in the country from another universe no less. "I'll eat one or two, 'cause I'm starving, but I'll carefully drop the food to the floor and you're gonna eat it there because you can't just, you know, get your bubbly head out of me like you usually do and expect that none of these people won't ask any questions."

"HMMMMM…"

"C'mon, V…work with me here. It's either this or you don't eat and you'll get fucking cranky and I can't deal with that on top of all of this crap", Eddie said, frustrated, and it seemed Venom was quick to pick up on it, waiting for his host to subtly start letting the food, piece by piece, slide down to the floor of their booth so Venom could come out under the table, sneakily baring his teeth before he ate each piece in a single bite.

"STEALTHY", his voice purred in Eddie's head.

"Keep being stealthy", he said, although his comment was cut short upon hearing the woman's voice and noticing more food.

"MORE FOOD!" Venom exclaimed in his head.

"Shh––hey--wh...what?" Eddie asked, trying to play dumb at first but, really, just tried to wrap his head around why a McDonald's employee would so calmly tell him such things. When he looked around he noticed it was just them–when did people start leaving?

"We…are" Eddie replied, and Venom came out as a floating head next to Eddie with a big grin. "…Why aren't you freaking out? Who are you…Sylvie?"

"HELLO, SYLVIE" Venom greeted once he was done eating half the food served on the table quite unceremoniously. "WE ARE THE LETHAL PROTECTOR."

Her feet stuck against the billboard about soda pop, choppy blonde hair dangled as she had her back turned to her odd… not a guest, but not an invader? Wanderer? Gwen couldn't decide what he was, much less what he was to her. Something alongside her bubbled, the sensation akin to a cat's purr. It wasn't her spider sense reacting, although it was a close second.

Turning back around to… Eddie. Brows pinched in the center, blue eyes darting from one to the other, squabbling within earshot. Walking closer, she let them finish to have room to speak. "You feel it?" Gwen said softly, not answering any of their questions.

"Venom."

Eddie stood still, observing the young woman in front of him--young…kid? She seemed young, and tilted his head a little back, unsure what she was talking about at first. Not that he wanted to assume but he couldn't really put himself into a position of asking more questions than the ones he already had asked. Venom had said he shouldn't freak out, not that much, and Eddie tried to remind himself he should keep his head in the game but everything had happened so fast he was still incredibly confused.

"SHE'S TALKING TO US, EDDIE."

"I guess she is, uh---you're not…scared? I mean, that's a relief but that also would be a first."
