computer mouse, computer... snake....?
So sand boas are considered to be the perfect beginner pets? I thought it was the ball python?
Nah. Sand boas stay smaller, are easier to care for/have less difficult to maintain husbandry requirements, generally eat better, and aren’t as riddled with genetic health issues and overbreeding issues with regius are. Plus, We’re not plagued with breeders jumping ship and throwing their collections into freezers right now, like with regius! So that’s a bonus.
These snakes are such dorks
Some more cute johnii photos.

Took a few photos of my 2015 johnii for the buyer. Been a long time since I posted much in the way of snake photos! There will be a few coming up.
Sand boas are some of the doofiest creatures, I swear. This girl is an educational animal at the Columbus Zoo, where I volunteer.
If I ever got a snake it would be a sand boa
So Molgera (the larger Sand Boa, who is at least 1 ½ years) is chubbers Those scale creases line up perfectly with where he bends. The baby doesn’t have them. So yeah chubberrrzzzz
Baby Indian Sand Boas! 4 babies total. This is the largest of the sand boa species. They give live birth to HUGE babies. Almost the size of an adult male rough scaled sand boa. They are awesome. If you have questions, ask away!

Reptiles Magazine
If anyone gets Reptiles Magazine, keep an eye out for the current issue with the article about Kenyan Sand Boas. The article was written by a colleague, Darren Boyd of The Reptile Rainforest, and it features photos I took of some of my sand boas.
Can I ask you a little bit on Rosy Boas? I will be a first-time snake owner, and I have read that these are good for first-timers. Thanks!
Rosy boas aren’t necessarily something I’d suggest for a first timer, but they can be okay as long as you don’t overfeed them (seriously, not more than once weekly and never anything big enough to make a significant bulge in the snake), and don’t keep them too wet. Let their water bowl dry weekly, and remove damp substrate.
Don’t keep them too hot, either. Not much more than 85F.

Pretty Pretty Pretzel (Eryx colubrinus loveridgei)
Meet my sweet snoot Little Miss. She looks cute in all of these pictures. Unfortunately, I failed to properly capture her accusatory gaze. But look at that shovel-face.

Unfortunately my hasty photo of a pail full of newly collected baby snakes turned out blurry. Sorry!
Nine rough scaled sand boas were born today. Right into the incubator for them!
These are my newest babies. I’ll answer any questions that folks may have about breeding these guys, as well as their first few months of life.
Rough scaled sand boas are (in my opinion) an underrated species in the hobby. They are some of the hardiest, easiest to keep snakes.
