This is one of my all-time favourite 40k pictures of which I admittedly have a lot. No idea who it's by (kinda giving me a Kev Walker feeling but I can't be sure yet) and it isn't around a lot, but look at it!
(Bonus points the wrecked old-style Rhino.)
I'm a fan because it looks proper killy, obviously, but also because it doesn't look like any ork dreadnought GW has ever actually produced. It's not even can-shaped! Legs are about the only thing!
There's been a tendency lately, it feels, for all GW artwork to only be representative of the existing models, giving the impressions sometimes that that's all there is in the universe. You know? And I'm not a fan of that.
Recognisable is good, fine, but show some imagination! Have John Blanche back to draw the most buckwild shit! Draw a thing and let people figure out what it's meant to be!
... actually, kinda reminds me of Andy Chambers' dreads he made out of Predator Annihilator turrets. Those were tight.

The father of Warhammer 40k art direction and the man that has inspired me as an artist, down to inspiring my current artstyle (and I am sure will continue to inspire me, even in death). 40k just wouldn't be 40k had it not been for the foundation of grimdark sci-fi that he laid.

This is painful. John Blanche has passed on.
Games Workshop and Warhammer would be nothing, and I do mean NOTHING, without him.
He was the beating heart of GW's worlds, made theses little toy games feel like they had a whole universe behind them.
His body of work is STAGGERING, and the amount detail he packed into each piece truly dwarfed the game itself.
One of the Lords.

John Blanche, one of the people who gave warhammer a visual identity, has passed away.
I donβt think that I need to talk about how influential he was or how talented and gorgeous his artwork was, I think that speaks for itself.
The world was a bit more colorful to have him, and the world of Warhammer 40k was more grimdark thanks to him.

lol, what if Fulgrim didnβt suck eggs.
Newspaper comics always feel unmoored from time, especially the ones running forever run by the original cartoonist's grandson, so it's always weird when they mention A Current Thing, but nothing jumpscares you more than a newspaper strip making a very, very specific modern reference
they need to invent clubbing for boring sober people who don't like loud music or crowded group dancing. what's the "she should be at the club" for this hypothetical not-me demographic.

"the library": a nice space to hang, granted, but not really the same fun social vibes.
"the night-library that serves pink drinks and tea": okay okay, now we're cooking.
"coffee shop": a bit more social and rambunctious than the average library, but still too plain imo.
"the museum": still a tad too formal I feel like but definitely not opposed.
"the book club": again, not opposed, but book clubs do have the catch of requiring you to plan ahead and do some homework to really enjoy it, not a very "I'm bored on a friday and want to go do something fun" activity.
