July 10th, Happy Birthday Bijou!
Bijou is one of the main Ham-Hams, and not only that but she also is one of the main characters of the series. At least one of the original main four Ham-Hams that usually appear in every single episode.
Bijou is a white fur hamster that is always wearing blue ribbons to match her pigtails. Under those ribbons she wears bead ponytail holders to tie it up, since her fur ends in some wild hair. She treasures these ribbons a lot and she has a bunch of them, but she is almost every time seen with her blue ones because Hamtaro said he really liked them and so they became her favorites. Albeit we can’t really tell, she is apparently really beautiful in Ham-Ham terms.
Bijou’s personality is what you expect from a main character. She is nice, polite, pushy sometimes, and can get really nervous when she thinks someone is a rival in love. She has also been seen mad a few times, albeit that is not usual behavior. She is, to a kid show standard, very well-versed in love and has helped some other hamsters in the matter.
Bijou was born in France, where she lived with her owner Maria until they moved to Japan. Hence, she has a small French accent in the dub, but that is not shown in the Japanese dub. It is worth noting that she rarely uses french words during the Japanese dub, and when she does, they do have a small accent on it. Bijou has a friend from France, Oshare, who in the Japanese dub (and presumably in the English dub, but we have never get the chance to know) speaks with a heavy French accent. In the French dub, Bijou comes from Russia instead of France. Bijou’s Japanese name is Ribon-chan, and the motif of this name is related to her ribbons, which is interesting given she was not born with them and it would have been more accurate to call her by her wild hair. In other countries, her name is also based on the ribbons instead of a gem, for example in both Latin Spanish and European Spanish, her name is related to the ribbons she wears.
In the Japanese dub, Bijou finishes most of her sentences with “dechu” or “dechuwa”. This is a pun, since “chu” is the Japanese onomatopeia for “squeak”; and Bijou is a rodent. What she would be saying is “desu” or “desuwa”; the later being more regal and normally used by “princess” or “rich” portrayed characters in anime.
Bijou acts as the leader of the “Hamuchiizu”, a subgroup of Ham-Hams formed by the girls.
Bijou is the co-protagonist of Hamtaro’s game “Ham-Ham Heartbreak” and also the main protagonist of the third movie, “Miracle in Aurora Valley”.
Bijou’s birthday was apparently chosen at random, since it is not a special date or a pun. If you happen to know why, please let us know!
Relationships
Bijou only has a single love interest during the whole series, and that is Hamtaro. This is a fact, albeit the anime sometimes likes to push the audience into pairing her up with other Ham-Hams, like Boss, who is deeply in love her. It is unknown if, despite most of Boss’ obvious behavior towards her, and the fact that all the other Ham-Hams know of his crush, she is aware of it or she is just politely giving him the cold shoulder in order to not break his heart.
However, the French girl has been devastated by the complete ignorance of Hamtaro regarding this, even when she got a date with him. He is just too oblivious and by the end of the series, we don’t have a proper ending to her quest for love.
During this time, she has to fight with plenty of rivals, who make her really jealous, but she ends up making amends with them when she learns that friendship is as important as love.
Even though she only has eyes for Hamtaro, it is a fact that she has been the eye of many Ham-Hams, including Boss, Stan and Panda, the latest being a little obscure and unknown fact.

This episode introduces Bijou properly, albeit we saw her in the first episode. Hamtaro and the Ham-Hams go to her place to make her come out and play, since she has always been a cage hamster before!

That is all! Joyeux Anniversaire, Bijou!

Today is Hambone’s Birthday (3/23)
Last year we started to throw the pirate hams into the birthday mix but we forgot poor Hambone here (as well as the Captain, oops!) because of most likely, school and things, but now it is time to give this old hammie the spotlight.
Hambone is part of Captain Hamstern’s crew from the third movie that wanted to take Bijou away. After Hamtaro and the crew became friends Hambone and Hambeard later show up in the Ham Ham Games OVA, steering the floating ship to Hamcropolis. He plays the bass guitar in Captain Hamstern’s band and his event of choice in the games is the Pole Vault.
February 23rd, Happy Birthday Cubbie!
Cubbie is a member of the Pirate Crew of Captain Hamstern. He is chubby, small and probably the youngest member of the crew.
Cubbie takes the position of cabin boy in the crew, as his work is not defined but we can assume he takes care of every non-specialized task. He also plays the saxophone in the Captain’s band.
While we assumed that Hamberto was the second-in-command because he was born in January, that would not explain why Cubbie is born in February, as he should not be the “second in importance” of the crew members. As of now, the reason of why they choose this date for their birthday stays a mystery.
Cubbie’s Japanese name is Hamukiddo, which can be translated as “Hamster Kid” or “Kid Hamster”, whichever you prefer. Both fit him perfectly! “Kiddo” is a way to refer to a young brat, rather than a kid by itself.
He was introduced in the third Hamtaro movie, “Miracle in Aurora Valley”, along with the other Captain Hamstern’s crew. After that, he made an appearance in Hamtaro Ham-Ham Games for the Game Boy Advance as a member of Team Sea Hams. He makes a small imagine spot cameo in Ham-Ham Games OVA along with Captain Hamstern and Hamberto as they are still training for the games.
Relationships
Cubbie does not have any known crush, however, he is clearly a ham of the sea, and being so young, he is probably not that interested in this right now.
He is devoted to his Captain and his fellow crewmen, with whom he spends most of his time.
Episodes
Movie 3 – Miracle in Aurora Village
As a member of Captain Hamstern’s crew, Cubbie diligently follows orders and helps kidnap the Snow Princess, Bijou. However, he is awfully quiet during the whole movie, his only specific lines being when offering food to Bijou.
This should be all! We wish our youngest pirate a happy birthday!

Episode 113 - Sparkle’s Vacation (revamped)
This post was released 3 days ago in Patreon, as a reward for those that are supporting Paradise Hamsubs.
This episode was originally subbed on July 27th 2011.
This is the second release for January’s revamps, sorry for the delay!
Since we don’t really have anything planned for the second monthly revamp for now, André decided to tackle his favorite episodes as they would be done faster and then the team would have time for other projects before month end.
Well then, you better get ready for a lot of Sparkle episodes!
This episode was relatively well translated, although the human segments have received a notable revamp. However, it is always a good time to endulge in some Sparkle, so please enjoy!

February 9th, Happy Birthday Sparkle!
Sparkle is one of the secondary Ham-Hams that has appeared the most on the series. She is well-known to the Ham-Hams and they look up to her a lot, since she is an idol. Sparkle, however, doesn’t like the Ham-Hams since the beginning, but slowly grows on them and gets caught on their adventures.
Sparkle is an idol hamster that has a similar design to Bijou, but also takes some design ideas from Hamtaro. Her pigtails are more “wild” than Bijou’s combed ones, and she is one of the few hamsters whose design is a straight line crossing through the forehead. She sports a butt mark in the shape of a heart, mimicking Hamtaro’s spotted one.
Sparkle takes her work rather seriously, not like her owner, Glitter. Although they both aim to be top idols, Sparkle is usually more centered on work while Glitter prefers to slack off and goof around.
Sparkle’s Japanese name is Kururin-chan which can be translated as “Chestnut”. Her owner, Glitter, Japanese name is Kurumi-chan which can be translated as “Walnut”. As you can see, both Japanese and English dubs gave them matching puns.
Sparkle finishes most of her sentences with “nano”, a catchphrase much like Hamtaro’s “nanoda”. At first, she accompanied this with a cute smiley pose, but in later episodes she just adds it to most of her sentences regardless. She says it so much that the Ham-Hams have learned to copy her whenever she shows up.
Sparkle is a rather rowdy hamster, very straightforward and focused hamster. Whatever she focus on, she does her best to make it happen. She is also well-versed in love and, later on, learns English as she moves to America with her owner.
Sparkle was first introduced on Episode 54, when a new student transfers into Laura’s school. It happens to be Glitter, and Sparkle comes with her. Sparkle gets to know the Ham-Hams, but she wants nothing to do with them.
Relationships
Sparkle is known for being… rather active in her love experience.
She had a crush on Omar, whom she hoped could make herself a princess, but that was short-lived.
After that, she moved on to her true crush and love interest during most of the series: Hamtaro, but, of course, Hamtaro is oblivious to Sparkle, no matter how many times she has tried to win him over.
In fact, the anime has almost the same number of episodes of Sparkle trying to win Hamtaro over than the other most acceptable option, that is Bijou trying to win Hamtaro over.

Episode 176 - Pipo, Ham-Ham Nurse Team!
This post was released 3 days ago in Patreon, as a reward for those that are supporting Paradise Hamsubs.
This is the first episode we worked this year, we’re sorry it took so long to release, but please enjoy it!
For us at Paradise Hamsubs it’s quite strange that it took this long to work on this episode, given that Flora has a role on it and the Ham-Ham Nurse Team is really cute.
But here we are! This episode is really funny, and it was relatively easy to translate, although the plot could’ve improved a little.
We hope you enjoy it!
