8 years ago today Nicki Minaj released her debut album - ‘Pink Friday’. It debuted at number 2 on the US Billboard 200, selling 375,000 copies in it’s first week. This marked the second-highest sales week for a female hip-hop recording artist. It ultimately reached number 1 and spent 73 consecutive weeks on the chart. As of February 2018, the album has sold two million copies in the United States (3× Platinum), also was certified PLATINUM in the US in less then 1 month. ‘Pink Friday’ was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 54th Grammy Awards in 2012, alongside Minaj’s other nominations for Best New Artist and Best Rap Performance for the single “Moment 4 Life”. The album has sold 5 million copies worldwide and is the best selling female rapper album this decade. It has 1.9 billion global streams to date.
