Hello, Mod Teck here.

The discord server this ask blog was based from has been inactive for a few months now. As such, this ask blog has been effectively discontinued.

This isn’t necessarily the end of Dark Fuchsia…sort of. I personally am working on a few stories featuring the team. I might not finish all of them (or any of them, haha), but the stories are there. I’m also considering creating a new blog to post said stories, as well as stories ft. other characters I’ve created. Be on the lookout for that.

You can’t run from me, my dear 10,005.

Loud, metallic grating filled Five’s head once more, accompanied by a robotic rendition of Teufel’s voice. She staggered and pressed the heel of her hand against her eye, gritting her beak as she did her best to ignore the AI. “It’s a damn good thing I’m not, then.”

You also can’t lie to me. 

“Who said I was lying?” She huffed, pressing her back against one of the walls of the hallway and exhaling through her nose. God, the migraines that came with his voice were awful. She wanted to rip herself apart to make the pain stop.

She was fast.

Too fast.

One second she was there; the next, gone. 

Six couldn’t even feel her presence in the room; it was as if she’d just ceased to exist within the space. His body froze, his breathing coming to a standstill in his chest. His eyes darted around the mostly empty room, and found Teufel gone. 

He was alone, out in the wide open to become Diana Cliffborne’s prey.

He was going to die to the Octarian King’s Blade.

Six whipped around, backing up slowly to the door from which he entered from, analyzing the training room with fear-filled eyes. “Five, you don’t have to do this…” he ventured, whispering his plea to the empty room. Movement caught his eye off to his right, and his breath caught in his throat.

Her black, dead eyes were trained on him, with no sign of Five within their teal depths.

“So glad to have you finally join me, 10,006. I’ve been waiting for you,” Teufel’s lips curled into what would have been a smile, had it not looked so sinister. His black and glowing teal eyes sparkled beneath his circular glasses. “I’d like to show you my newest masterpiece, and perhaps even take it for a test run.”

His words fell on deaf ears. Six couldn’t care less about what Teufel had to say. His eyes and attention were trained on the figure standing just behind and to the right of the businessman. 

“What did you do to her?” The anger Six had felt while he was watching the operation flooded his system at full force. “Teufel, what did you do to her?!” His voice ripped through his throat before he even thought to control it.

Six couldn’t peel his eyes away from the scene on the other side of the window. He couldn’t even breathe. 

Three figures stood around Five’s unconscious form, all in stark white lab coats. He recognized the octoling girl from before, during his first heist to rescue Five, but not the octoling boy next to her. He looked exactly like her: pale green skin, blue and green tentacles, white coat over black armor, and red and black sunglasses. 

The boy turned to the third figure in the room, holding out a tray of instruments. Teufel nodded after inspecting them, adjusted his mask to cover the lower half of his face, and pulled on his gloves to begin to work. 

Both of the octolings moved to the other side of the operating table, allowing Six to get a decent view of Five. 

She was lying face-down.

Wasn’t the ink sac near the front of the body?

The sharp sensation of cold air filling her nose and lungs jolted Five awake. She jerked slightly, her eyes darting around as panic flooded her system. The “doctors” did something to her, she could feel it. Was she sick? Was Teufel right about something being in her system?

Her body felt so heavy, like she was moving in the wrong color ink and was getting dragged under. Not to mention the burning sensations she experienced every time she moved ever so slightly.

What happened?

She remembered leaving the Metro with Teufel, getting examined by the nurse, asking about Six…

“Six!” She gasped, shooting upright and whipping around. Where was he!?

The Octarian King’s Blade swiped the paper from their mentor’s outstretched hand, eyes narrowed at the tall man behind the desk. “The king usually gives me my assignments in person. What’s this about?” They snapped, turning their attention to the neat handwriting scrawled on the page.

“This isn’t from the king, D. You have your assignment. Go.”

“Oh, hell no, Abner. I’m not working with that bastard!” The Blade growled, their keen ears noticing the door open behind them. A dagger was embedded in the doorframe before the newcomer could even manage a greeting.

Everything around her was on fire. 

Everything inside her was on fire. 

But the fire gave off no light. 

There was no light. 

She wanted to gasp, to scream out to someone for help, but her body refused to respond to her commands. The fire licked at her veins, incinerating anything it came into contact with, and she could feel her soul beginning to turn to ash.

She was dying. 

… 

…Why did it feel so familiar?

Something was wrong.

Six couldn’t place his finger on what that something was, but something was definitely very, very wrong. Maybe he was just being paranoid, but the sight of the CEO’s eyes sent chills to his very core. Not to mention the way he suddenly brought up Five’s “contamination.” 

He didn’t trust the situation a single bit.

“It’s a damn good thing they’re letting us work together on these tests,” Six sighed, his tentacle curling on his forehead. “I can’t imagine completing all of these by myself. I think C.Q. said there were, like, eighty tests in total? And I don’t really see myself completing that many on my own.” The metro’s doors slid open, and the two subjects made their way inside and sat in their respective seats on the bench in the back of the train car.

“We should plan out where we’re gonna go next,” Five murmured, booting up her map of the metro’s railways as the train lurched forwards. “From the looks of it, we’ve unlocked lines B, C, and D, and have two items that we can retrieve on lines B and C, but C’s item is farther away, meaning more tests. Unless we can unlock lines that will allow us to take shortcuts to get to the items easier, we’ve still got a ways to go.”

Six extended his arm to point at where lines D and C almost met. “Look here. There’s a line connecting these two. If we can get to the junction station and unlock this line, it should make getting C’s item easier.” He frowned, his lower lip getting caught between his teeth as he thought. “Five, we’re idiots.”

“Hey! Don’t lump me in with you!”

“No, look.” His hand traced over line C to where it connected with line D, then towards the right. “There’s a junction station two stops down. That should be where we head next. If my guess is right, the rail will connect to the ends of lines C and D over… here, which is where we were trying to go in the first place. We completely overlooked this station.”

“…Oh. I guess we are idiots, huh?” Five giggled, moving the cursor over to select the stop just before the junction station test, but hesitated. “Hey, Six? Doesn’t this all feel… I dunno, weird?”

“C.Q.?! What the hell was that?!” She demanded, storming back onto the train platform. Teal ink dripped from her body, leaving small footprints as she returned her weapon and whirled around on the tiny conductor. “I nearly died in there!” 

“No, you didn’t, 10,005. You merely would have started over from the spawn point,” he replied, leading her back onto the train. “You have done well to pass your first test. However, before we continue, we must make a detour back to Central Station to pick up a new passenger. Apologies.” 

She shrugged and sat down on one of the benches and pulled on her cloak. “That’s fine, it gives me a chance to catch my breath. Are they a test subject like me?”

“Something along those lines, yes. You’ll understand more when–”

The monotonous droning of the rails beneath the metro filled 10,005’s head as she sat down on one of the not-so-comfortable seats and fished out the remote-esque device to examine it closer. It was slightly bigger than her hand, and off-white in color with a large red joystick in the middle, and a small button on the upper right-hand corner. Curious, she pressed it.

The clatter of plastic hitting metal caused a couple of passengers to look up from their various pass-time activities. A large holographic screen took up the space in front of her, with a single yellow line in the dead center of it. 

“Ah, I see you do not require a tutorial of the C.Q.-80 device,” a small voice by way of greeting. “I have been awaiting your arrival, 10,005. Welcome aboard.”

The tunnel opened up into a massive room, which was mostly empty save for a couple of waiting chairs and posters, and the phone that had been the girl’s beacon. Her eyes widened as she observed the dilapidated state of what she figured to be the main hub of the station. Lights above her sparked and fizzled, wires hung from the ceiling, and the tracks she’d traversed ended and hung over a dark abyss. She didn’t want to know what awaited for her at the bottom, if anything. 

She hauled herself onto the central platform, not yet approaching the phone. Who would she even call? She couldn’t recall anyone who might be able to help her, much less a phone number. The jellyfish present on the outskirts of the platform definitely wouldn’t be able to help her, they likely didn’t even speak the same language as her. 

Examining the lockers on either end of the platform didn’t give her any answers, and neither did the vending machine. The only thing she could really discern from her surroundings was that she was in a place called Kamabo Co., thanks to the weird eye-insignia posters that seemed to be everywhere in this train station.  

She jumped slightly as the phone began to shrilly ring again behind her. Whoever was on the other line definitely seemed to want to get in touch with this train station, for whatever reason. Perhaps they could give her some answers. 

“Greetings, test subject 10,005!” 

The first thing she knew was that she was cold. The sensation felt familiar, for some reason, but she couldn’t put her finger on it. The second thing she realized was that she was alone, even before she opened her eyes. Pain pulsed all throughout her body, and she let out a soft groan as she attempted to sit up. 

She rubbed at her eyes and got to her feet, then took in her surroundings. A large hole in the ceiling clued her in to how she got here, but… it didn’t explain why. Or where she was now. She looked around, taking note of the (rather creepy) posters on the walls, the glass doors behind her that didn’t seem to be able to open, and the broken turnstiles in front of her. 

She winced slightly as light reflected off of a piece of metal near the wall, nearly blinding her, and she blinked. A knife, with an octopus pommel that seemed to move as she picked it up to examine it closer. A small engraving on the base of the blade itself made her breath catch in her throat. 

D.C.

“Find the agent, and take her out.”

Their orders had been so simple. Why were they struggling so hard to follow through with them? They looked down at their legs, specifically where they had concealed so many of their beloved daggers. 

“She’s a threat to the operation; to our way of life, my Blade.”

They swallowed. 

“Take her out. Tonight.”
