I have many problems w Bioware, but they could have made Kaidan an asshole due to his difficult past to appeal to cishet male gamers, but no, instead, they made him a sensitive, kind, loving man. It’s one of the best shit they’ve done

Eh. Fuck it. Here’s my most known Mass Effect fic, for N7 Day. (I have more fics coming. They’re just not ready yet)

OMG this is amazing. I read something today about people getting upset because Shep was written having a reaction like this and I just have to hijack this for a moment because this is a beautiful illustration of a Shepard who’s human and still capable of being the hero. Let Shepard be fucked up and have PTSD and deal with it in healthy and unhealthy ways off-duty. Let it affect the ways they react in combat. Let it bleed through and color them and shape them and make them something different from what they’d been before. Let them not be okay. It’s canon.  In ME1, before Ilos, Shepard isn’t in their cabin. They’re in the middle of the damn mess hall next to the med bay, where anyone on their crew can see them clearly dejected and just at the end of their rope. Hope’s lost. They’re not dealing with it. They’re not the commander or the Spectre in that moment. They’re just Shepard. And they’re Not Okay.  If you romance Jacob in ME2 (which I don’t generally recommend, but this is the one redeeming factor), he’s the only one who asks if she’s okay and how she’s handling the coming back from the dead thing and Shepard can tell him she isn’t. Shep is Not Okay in ME2. The thing is, though, they’re not going to just go around telling people because they know the crew needs to look up to them and they have no one else they can really trust with it. So if no one asks, no one sees it. In ME3, whether an LI or not, Garrus is playing mother hen for a reason. Shepard is now consistently showing signs that at least someone (and an alien, no less) who’s served with them throughout the war can see that they are Not Okay. “Wear and tear,” he calls it. “You need a clear head,” he tells them. Shep lets Liara see it, too, and she asks about it. They show Miranda. They aren’t trying to hide it anymore.  Figuratively, they’re constantly in the mess hall now, sitting by the lockers. Shep isn’t sleeping. Shep’s having nightmares. Shep’s worried and afraid and just because the only time you see them shed a tear is if you romanced Thane doesn’t mean they don’t.  And it started with trauma. Our Shepards come to us with backgrounds that would traumatize any reasonable person. They may be remarkably strong-willed, but that just means they can push through. It doesn’t mean they can’t break. It doesn’t mean they can’t reflect back on it. It doesn’t mean that the stoic face we see in the game is the only one they ever wear.  Let Shepard scream. It makes them human.

Have you ever finished a video game that you put so much time into and the ending left you so emotionally scarred that you had to take a step back from life to mourn.
