Q & A with FROYO @ Triple J Unearthed
Everything's coming up Milhouse because we're triple j Unearthed's FEATURE ARTIST this week! So feel free to click over there and check out our Q&A 💚💚💚
Honestly, it's been a crazy 24 hours. We've been played twice on national radio, 11 times on digital radio, we're now charting in 4 different genres (as well as overall) on Unearthed, and Michael ate Wagyu beef for the first time. Crazy.
Tell us about your music. How did you develop your sound? A few years ago, we watched the movie “Drive” (starring Ryan Gosling) and fell in love with its soundtrack (...plus Ryan Gosling). Feeling inspired, two of us sat down and started writing/producing songs together. Then one of our university mentors (Drew Crawford) heard what we were doing, and he said that we were like "the soundtrack to a John Hughes movie that never happened"... and his words really stuck with us... so much that we went ahead and made it our band slogan! But yeah, we’ve always been ardent fans of the 80s. It’s definitely the decade of music that resonates with us the most.
What’s your greatest source of inspiration for making music? Writing something that’s danceable, relatable, and ultimately memorable. When we write, our ethos is that “our music needs more than a dance beat... it needs a heart beat”. Also, I just wanna reach a point where, forty years from now, our songs become people’s go-to choices for karaoke. Yeah. That’s the dream. Karaoke.
You’re the winners of our The Plot competition. What can punters at The Plot festival in Sydney expect from the Froyo live show? Cheesy pop goodness, awkward adlib, groovy dance moves, and maybe some coughing here and there (because Michael’s an old man... at heart). We also don’t have a “lead” singer. Michael and Allyson have this Stevie Nicks / Christine McVie thing going on – à la Fleetwood Mac.

The Plot thickens: Unearthed winners FROYO join the line-up
by Triple J. 04/11/2016
When The Plot recently dropped the set times, we told you we were keeping a slot warm for one talented artist. Well, thank you all kindly for your applications but the position has been filled, and we couldn't be happier. Joining the super-stacked, super-diverse line-up for the Greater Western Sydney festival will be Sydney's FROYO. A production outfit that evolved into an '80s loving quartet that now serves up sweet spoonful of synthpop, FROYO was also one of the finalists in our Play School remix competition earlier this year (shortly after the group celebrated their third anniversary). They've been working on more pastel-shaded tunes and last month teased there's a new song "coming verrrrrry soon."
Following in the footsteps of Sampa The Great, FROYO will open up The Plot main stage, warming up for massive sets from Montaigne, The Bennies, Luca Brasi, Tired Lion, Tash Sultana and The Belligerents. Elsewhere you'll catch A.B. Original, Allday, Vera Blue, Amy Shark, Alex Lahey, and many, MANY more. Re-visit the festival details below and head on over to the ThePlot.co for ticket info.

The Plot Festival Adds Triple J Unearthed Winner To 2016 Lineup
by Zanda Wilson, Music Feeds. November 4, 2016
The triple j Unearthed slot on the lineup for Sydney’s The Plot festival has been announced, with local outfit FROYO revealed as this year’s lucky winners.
The synth-pop four-piece will join the already stacked 2016 lineup, which features the likes of Allday, Alex Lahey, A.B. Original, Elizabeth Rose, Japanese Wallpaper, Montaigne, Paces, Vera Blue, Nicole Millar, Tash Sultana and Tired Lion.
FROYO have been nabbing rave reviews for their tracks on triple j’s Unearthed website for some time, and also made it to the finals of the radio station’s Play School remix competition.
The Plot 2016 is set to take place in two weeks time at Parramatta Park. Catch the set times, full lineup and ticketing deets below.

HEAR THE FINALISTS IN TRIPLE J’S PLAY SCHOOL REMIX COMP
by Greg Moskovitch, Tonedeaf. 2 June 2016.
Triple j’s Play School remix competition has received widespread attention, and confusingly even a little bit of controversy, but after trawling through some 600 remixes, the judging panel has selected their five finalists.
If your memory’s a bit foggy, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the beloved children’s television staple (yes, can you believe it? 50 years!), triple j tasked their Unearthed citizens with remixing the iconic theme tune.
The stems to ‘There’s A Bear In There’ were available to download and producers, songwriters, bands, emcees, and everything in between were free to do whatever they pleased with them, the more creative the better.
triple j’s judges have now narrowed the list down to just five, each of which “bring something inventive and distinctive to the table”. You can check a few out below, but we must say we have a soft spot for Froyo’s New Wave-esque take on the song.

FROYO’s ‘Pride’ Is A Pretty Perfect 80’s Electropop Song
Eat This Music. March 3, 2016
I have no idea how the good people over at White Label Servicing found me, but I am really glad that they did, because I got the chance to listen to FROYO’s ‘Pride’ and I really like it. I definitely like FROYO more than Froyo, mostly because I don’t eat Froyo.

PREMIERE: The lost soundtrack from an 80s kids movie, wander through the lush synths of Froyo’s Pride
by Susie Garrard, Happy. March 3, 2016 Smooth, cool and delicious… infused with tropical and tantalising flavours, rich with the taste of Summer. The only difference between Sydney band Froyo and their namesake is that one comes with a spoon. And it’s not the band – that I know of. The three piece synth-pop outfit have been whipping up their luscious brand of 80’s influenced electronica since 2013, and this week sees the release of their latest single;Pride.
Soaked in lush production, the masters of 80s synth-pop revival Froyo have returned with Pride. Like a cool change after a heat wave, let it wash over you.

Go back to the 80s with the synth pop of Froyo
By Shayen de Silva, Happy. July 14, 2015
There have been a few instances where Happy articles have referred to a certain artist or song as a lost track form the Drive soundtrack, as you can see here and here. Perhaps our writers share a great taste in film, or perhaps are running a sly underground marketing campaign so more people will want to watch a mute Ryan Gosling with robotic synths in the background.
Or perhaps it’s something more; the way that film takes seemingly cold music that really has a ridiculous amount of heart and character, despite the lack of words spoken, much like the main character. Froyo is one such artist that walks the delicate line between cool and calm, and warm and passionate.
Rev up your Delorean, it’s time to go back to the 80s courtesy of the synth pop of Froyo. The Sydney trio embrace the richness of the genre to full effect.
