Imagine him needing to send Dani and Doc Greene off, unable to comprehend why out of the both, who he looks up to and are so much more capable than him, didn’t make it. He shifts through their photos, seeing Dani with the other family members smiling so joyously and thinking how he failed them all, and Doc Greene, such a brilliant mind in his eyes who was meant to enjoy the last years of his life with a family he found after so long, his own family, gone just like that.

He’s all alone.

It’s the same with Boulder. Friends who have been with him for so many cycles not waking up. Him sitting by their pods for who knows how long, only to slowly dawn on them that they are not in stasis.

Their sparks have went to what is considered a better and more peaceful place for them.

Except him. By some twisted fate, he was the one who’s to complete this mission to save his dying planet. Alone.

Graham and Boulder, after much difficulty, was able to establish contact. But in this AU, it implies Boulder had went out of the safety of his structure to haul Graham to safety despite how much pain he’s in, how he could feel his joints getting eaten away slowly by the deadly air.

For a while, Boulder had crawled back into his pod, and was in stasis, next to his dead teammates. Graham visited him whenever he could, sticking little encouragement notes and his doodles on the pod’s glass, of the one he now calls ‘buddy’.
