Was feeling particularly rivethead/goth today, so I dressed my best and went out for errands. While I’m at the coffee house, these trio of teen girls is whispering about my jewelry and my apparent emo ness

I dunno why this took me so long, and probably this is not news, but I just noticed that Hisoka’s actual lines are purposefully ambiguous, unlike in the English subs where they choose one translation or another. This gives even more reason for his ridiculously perverted voice (his voice confuses the context of his words, that would sound normal coming from a normal person), since whenever he talks in that voice he’s basically making innuendos. The English subtitles, unfortunately, have to either take the innuendo very literally, or totally skip the innuendo. Two examples I can think of:  a) When the subs have him say he is “turned on” he’s saying “zoku-zoku” which is more like “feeling thrilled/getting shivers/etc” (So, while he sounds pretty turned on, he’s not being quite that literal; if someone who didn’t sound like a perv said that the thought of fighting someone gave them chills, it wouldn’t have a sexual meaning at all). b) On the other hand, when the subs have him say he is “going to kill” someone, he uses “yaru”. Yaru has three pretty standard meanings: 1. to do (to do whatever action is being discussed/implied) 2. to have sexual intercourse 3. to kill If there’s no specific action being discussed or implied, then 2. or 3. are assumed based on context. So, needless to say, Hisoka is confusing the context pretty badly with those masturbatory faces and voices he makes. I could probably make some sort of argument about how his affinity for ambiguity and innuendo speaks to the duality of his self-professed “fickle and dishonest” character but… *Killua shrug*  SO. Next time Hisoka makes a pervy face and moans something like:  “Ahhh, ii yo… yappari ii yo, anata wa… !! Zettai, anata wa… boku ga yaru.”** and the subtitles go something like: “Ahh, so lovely…. you’re magnificent… I definitely must be the one to kill you” and you’re thinking: “damn, Hisoka, you’re such a creepy perv, why are you making it sound like you wanna DO the guy??” …it’s because that is, in fact, EXACTLY WHAT HE IS SAYING. (But he’s also saying that he’s gonna kill the guy.)
