IMO all West End theatre should have a proshot. Surely we’ve seen by now that there are advantages. There seems to be this rigid idea that it would dilute the experience, lose revenue and stop people bothering to attend live performances.

In fact the people who would buy it are those who…

A. Have seen a show, love it and want to keep the memory.

B. Could never see it live anyway (expense, time, location, disability unfriendly theatres *cough* The Fortune *cough*) etc.

It’d only do good to let more people engage with theatre, become fans and buy merch. No one who is actually a theatre goer wouldn’t bother with a show they can access live ONLY because there’s a way of watching it on a laptop.

The music industry realised that they had to find a way of outclassing illegal music sharing platforms by creating legit ones that were affordable and easy to use, rather than just bitching about piracy. Theatre should do the same. National Theatre at Hone is a great example to follow.
