as the title suggests my best friend is falling in love. every friendship and especially best friendship is built on your mutual love and want to spend time together. since my best friend and I met in august we have grown to spend most of our time together. we have 2 classes together a day in school and see each other between almost every one. we have all the same hobbies outside of school and have spent almost every day together since we met. we have been through 2 of my break ups, countless heart breaks, a death, fights, separation, and everything that constitutes making us have been through a lot. our friendship is a delicate balance of emotions and consideration of each other. anything that could tip the scales is avoided at all costs. we have both grown so much in our time being so close and seemingly nothing could change that. that is until she got asked on a date from a guy she didn’t know very well. being the awkward people we are I was invited out on this date with her. it was very obvious this kid liked her and wanted to impress her but getting her to respond is a much different story. we saw a movie, they held hands, they didn’t kiss which she later revealed to be thankful about and then it ended. 1 date is nothing. until that one date became another. and another. and then became them seeing each other between classes. and before school. all the time that was supposed to be best friend time melted away into their time. she would respond to his texts instantly, quicker then she ever did to mine. the things we used to joke about, like his strangely quick response time and the way he smiled, became things that would make her smile. they would kiss in front of me and hang out without me and everything was so different. the world of just me and her no longer existed. I now had to recognize that they were truly together. still through all this the chance of their break up loomed in the back of my mind. that would fix everything. that would make things the way they used to be. but the day he said he loved her things changed even more. she refused to say it back as a way to shield her own heart. she just recently has texted me planning the adorable way she will say I love you back to him. she beams as she tells me how she is falling for him more then any other guy she has ever been with. he treats her truly well and loves her and me. he takes care of her like I never could. now, going back to how things used to be isn’t possible. but that isn’t a bad thing. my best friend before him didn’t love herself. she would go back and forth between unhappiness and anger. that version of her is so far away nowadays. even though I still sometimes cringe when they kiss in front of me and groan when he says he loves her, going back is the last thing I would want. my best friend is falling in love and finally finally I can be happy for her.
