In the woods outside the village, much of the Pokemon were asleep. It was midnight after all. But there was one odd exception. Laying against a large oak tree was a Gengar, sound asleep and snoring loudly. Normally a nocturnal monster, this particular Gengar had in fact been sleeping in far longer than normal. Not only had he slept through the entire day, he was sleeping well into the night when most other ghost Pokemon were out and about. However, one could tell that this particular Gengar was a little different than most. He was noticeably larger than his Gengar brethren, especially in his belly area. While Gengar were generally spherical, this particular Gengar’s belly stuck out quite a bit, making him markedly chubby. And tonight, his belly was larger than usual, having feasted on a significantly more numerous number of nightmares the previous night, which in turn left him to sleep in.
But that would soon change. As the Gengar continued to snore away, another sound pierced the night air of the forest: a loud, low groan which seemed to reverberate the trees. The sound continued, loudly enough that is jolted the purple tubster with a snork.
“Wha… What the…?” the Gengar said groggily. He rubbed his spiky head as the propped himself up, sitting on his rear as he become more awake. Then, he heard it again. GRRROOOOAAANNNN.
“What was that?” said the Gengar, uncharacteristically worried for a ghost who scared people for pleasure. He hadn’t heard the sound before, and couldn’t seem to locate it. MRRRRRRGGGGG. The Gengar whimpered a bit. “It’s coming from right around me!” He pivoted around trying to find the unseen monster make the sound, but each time he heard, it seemed to be getting closer… GRROWWLL. And closer… RRRUMMBLE. And closer… GRRRUMMBLLEEE!
And then he realized it. He looked down at the purple orb that was his belly, and noted that the sound was coming from inside of it. His belly growled again, and this time he could feel it. He panicked a bit, bringing is hands to his belly in surprise. This had never happened to him before.
“Wh-what’s going on? Did I accidentally eat someone?!” He winced again as he felt his belly growl loudly again, this time wobbling back and forth as it vocalized. The Gengar yelped and began running into the woods, looking for help. He knew there had to be another fellow Gengar somewhere who could help him. “Somebody help me!” he cried out, cradling his belly as he ran, feeling and hearing it give out another grumble. “Pleeeeeease! Somebody!”
The Gengar was so frightened, in fact, that he didn’t even notice he had come across help in the form of another Gengar. Thankfully, this Gengar was much more aware of his surroundings and noticed the fleeing frightened ghost running towards him, and appropriately phased into transparency, allowing the fat Gengar to run right through him—and into another large tree.
The other Gengar sighed. He was smaller than the now-injured Pokemon; round nonetheless, but definitely nowhere near as chubby. He re-formed and walked over to his comrade, who by this point had fallen over in a daze. He stood over him, hands at his sides.
“What in heaven’s name are you doing, you big dum-dum?” the smaller Gengar asked in exasperation. The other Gengar quickly stood up, urgency in his voice.
“I think something’s wrong with me!!!” the tubby Gengar flailed his stubby arms wildly. “It’s… It’s inside meeeeeee!”
“I highly doubt that” the other said, rolling his eyes. He was taken by surprise though, when the larger Gengar grabbed his face and shoved it into his belly. The Gengar’s shouts were muffled, his face enveloped by the larger one’s rotund gut. He managed to release himself with a shove and gasped for air. “WHAT WAS THAT?!”
“Just trust me!! Listen to my tummy!” the bigger one cried, a woeful expression on his face, caressing his belly. The smaller Pokemon crossed his arms, then sighed and said, “Fine…”
He bent over, placing the side of his head on the side of the larger Gengar’s belly, feeling it smoosh into the soft purple mass. He waited a few seconds, not hearing anything, and was about to give up when suddenly…
GRRRROOOOOOOWWWWWWWLLLLLLL!!!!!
The small Gengar’s head was shaken as the larger Gengar’s belly gave out a beastly roar, jiggling and vibrating against his cheek. He immediately fell back, his ears ringing from the volume and impact. “Holy crap, man!” he exclaimed, rubbing his head.
“See! I told you there was something wrong with me!” The Gengar winced, clutching his large belly with both hands as to grumbled visibly underneath them.
“You dope,” said the other Gengar. “Nothing’s wrong with you, you’re just hungry.”
“I’ve heard the humans talk about this, apparently their abdomens make noises when they require nourishment. Bit of a rarity for us ghosts, though.”
“Oh?” The Gengar looked down at his belly, which rippled as it continued to gurgle. “I guess I am kinda hungry… So I don’t need to worry?”
“Honestly,” the smaller Gengar said, poking his large companion belly, which glurbled back in reply, “I think the only thing we need to worry about is that it will never shut up if we feed it!”
