my views are probably completely biased for the fact that evillious is my current fixiation. Though I acknowledge a bunch of writing flaws of this series, now I'll glaze it because why not. (long post ahead)
One of my favourite things in evillious chronicles, which can be specially seen in the novels, is the way it's narrated. It takes the trope of unreliable narrator to another lever. The narrator of many, if not all, songs and novels are characters with their role in the story and opinion on the situation. They will leave out facts that they don't know or find irrelevant. This, for example, can be seen in JoC(song) where Gallerian doesn't talk about a doll but about his daughter vs MoN(song) where Nemesis talks about a doll. That is an extremely plot relevant and known example of the unreliable narration, but it isn't the only one. Another example is the song The king was born from mud, in which Arth talks about his actions as "an act of justice". The song makes you believe he is a great person. That is until you hear The knights armor is always crimson and find out more facts about his actions. It doesn't make Arth's perspective and storytelling wrong, but it shows the viewer another perspective that makes Arth's idea of justice questionable.
The story itself is biased in every way. Even the gods are biased. It presents the great force of evil which can't be redeemed and blah blah that are the HER. Yet based on what I've seen, the HER aren't that evil and the not HER aren't that good either. It's interesting how even the basic rules of this universe are created by characters with their opinions and beliefs, thus using HERs as a method for separating good and evil is completely flawed. This story isn't made to point fingers and blame one character for the bad things happening. Even if HERs are the ones setting things off, the other's actions aren't pure either. Now I'll make a small critique at Master of the heavenly yard for completely throwing this great concept away when it turned MA in the absolute evil being.
Evillious created a great idea regarding blame and how history is told. I could talk about this more but I'm lazy. Thank you for reading to this point and Merry Christmas!!!!!
