Dragon Age: The Veilguard (2024) | dev. Bioware
thinking about solas having a breakdown as soon as him and lavellan enter the fade. like he cried already, but iâm talking full body sobs, collapsing to the floor inconsolable while lavellan hugs him to her, grounding him in a sea of his emotions, knowing that he needs to get this out.
he grieves for the friends lost, both to time and his actions, and cries from the realization that for the first time in his life he can do what he wants. he isnât sworn to avenge a memory of a friend, or a people long lost, but to only the promise he has made to himself to atone for his past mistakes.
he is a man that has been haunted by the regrets of his past, fueled by the guilt of his actions, but for the first time since he took a human form, he is truly free to do what it is he wishes, not in service of a god, but in service of himself.
and at his side he has the one person in the world who never expected or wanted him to be more than he is. not a savior, or a god, a loyal follower, or an enemy. she just wants him to be solas
The romanced Inquisitor and the Redeem ending (Veilguard spoilers)
I often see misunderstandings and critical comments, especially on Reddit, about the role of the Inquisitor in the redemption ending. I want to explain how I see it from a narrative designer's perspective. I'll approach the topic from a broader angle, so I ask for your patience and understanding. Long read.
Soooo well said. Mythal was the start of his tragedy and also his final remaining justification that needed to be resolved.
my fave dragon age romance options bc look how cuuuuute
one of the weakest parts about dragon age inquisition (that veilguard worsens in hindsight) is that either none of the decisions you make matter or...they're there to set up the next game.
what happens if you ally/exile the wardens? find out in the next game!
how does drinking from the well affect the inquisitor/morrigan? find out in the next game!
how will your chosen divine reshape the chantry? find out next time on dragon ball z!
well then what am i playing this game for then? outside of the few epilogue slides what did it all matter? and then the next game came out and...
I genuinely think this is one of the reasons why DA4 was the WORST game to get stuck in production hell.
Looking at the artbook it's clear that even before they shipped DAI they were thinking about DA4 and what would happen within it that led on directly from DAI and the choices the player made. They really DID want to address these things. They planned out fates for individuals left in the fade for example; how we might get to see them again and what happened to them. They planned out returning characters like Calpurnia and Cole and even Imshel who would probably have VERY different dialogue depending on voices you'd made in the previous games. They were thinking about these things; about the effects Tresspasser would have on the world etc.
Da4 needed to be a direct continuation of DAI and made not just as a loosely connected sequel set in the same world (like Da2 is to DAO and DAI is to DA2) but as a true sequel, a part 2 (not in the sense that we play the same character just in the sense that it follows on directly and the choices from DAI really matter and have an impact on DA4) because DAI was basically part of a story. And I get WHY you'd split that in two because DAI is about fighting a big war and da4 was planned to be about a heist sneaky game. And DAI does have a beginning middle and end and it'd be WAY too much work to put both parts in one as they are but...
Then when the game stalled and kept being changed and rewritten, it got further and further away from DAI.
I think this also gets at the heart of why people felt so mad about DAtV only having one choice that really mattered (did you romance Solas? Yes/No). I genuinely don't think people would have cared AS much if DAtV ended up like DA2 in which the stories were pretty divorced from one another with a different set of stakes etc. and a lot of choices in DAO already having HAD a consequence for the player.
But DAtV not incorporating the choices from DAI is crazy because...the DAI choices had not yet been resolved. Wardens, Well, disbanding or keeping the inquisition, the Divine, even who rules Orlais....we hadn't really seen the consequences of those choices yet. And all of them HAD been very much hinted at mattering BIG TIME in the future. So wiping the slate clean with THIS game was more egregious than them doing it with literally ANY other game in the series.

My hot Dragon Age: the Veilguard take is that Lucanis has absolutely zero game. People portray him as super cool and flirty and suave and Iâm like
This is a man who does not know what to do with a compliment. Heâs a little business boy who has a big job and an overbearing grandmother.
You say something sexy to him and he fucking chokes on his own spit.
Yâall hear the accent and think sensual right away but this man hasnât slept in like 3 weeks, is literally running on Spite, and hides in the pantry most of the time.
No game whatsoever.
I love him đĽšđ
